March 12, 200620 yr Wow. If the Cardinals get an offensive line in front of James, they could have a hell of an offense.

March 12, 200620 yr Browns continue signing frenzy Browns have agreed on a multi-year deal with DT Ted Washington. The deal hasn't yet been confirmed by the Browns, but it's reportedly $6.5 million over two years. Washington is in decline as a space hog, but played some of his best ball under Romeo Crennel in New England.
March 12, 200620 yr I heard the Browns also got Dave Zastudil, punter from the Ravens. Witherspoon signed with the Rams, 13 million dollar signing bonus. http://www.stlouisrams.com/article/53228/
March 12, 200620 yr The Vikings have signed G Steve Hutchinson to an offer sheet worth $49 million over seven years, including $16 million in guaranteed money. The deal has a huge cap number in the first year, which will discourage the Seahawks from matching it. They have seven days to do so. Seattle has to be regretting not placing the franchise tag on him in order to get draft pick compensation. This is the biggest contract for an interior lineman in league history by far. Profootball.com reports that many league insiders believe Drew Brees doesn't want to play for the Saints. New Orleans may be offering more upfront money, but reportedly only want a short-term deal. It's still speculation, but the Dolphins are reportedly offering more long-term money. They definitely offer more franchise stability.

March 13, 200620 yr Drew Brees is in town as I post this meeting with the Phins: Dolphins, Brees meeting Sunday night By Alex Marvez South Florida Sun-Sentinel San Diego quarterback Drew Brees flew to South Florida on Sunday afternoon to meet with Dolphins officials, agent Tom Condon said. "He's going to dinner with club officials tonight and I'm sure I'll talk to Randy (Mueller) tomorrow," said Condon, referring to the Dolphins' general manager. Brees spent part of Saturday and Sunday in New Orleans on a free-agent visit with the Saints. Before he left for New Orleans, Mueller and Dolphins coach Nick Saban took one of team owner H. Wayne Huizenga's private airplanes to meet with Brees in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday morning. "I'm evaluating all of my options and I want to make sure that I give everything the chance that it deserves," Brees said Sunday in New Orleans after meeting with Saints officials. "I'm really just taking in a lot of information right now. "I'm not going to rush it because this is a big decision. Wherever I sign is where I plan on spending the rest of my career and winning a few championships in the process and raising a family and everything else. It's more than just a one-year thing" Brees is regarded as the top quarterback on the free-agent market, but the Dolphins also are considering pursuing a trade for Minnesota's Daunte Culpepper. Anyone who gets WSVN 7 in Miami should tune in tonight for Sports Xtra at 11pm. Drew Rosenhaus is a guest on it every weekend and usually has very insightful and accurate information on his clients and Dolphin happenings. Should be a very interesting show tonight.
March 13, 200620 yr Darren Howard says he "wants to get back on the winning side" and believes he could do just that in Philadelphia. The former Saints defensive end met with team officials Sunday, underwent a physical and will remain in town until Monday morning. From PhiladelphiaEagles.com

March 13, 200620 yr Dolphins signed LB Sedrick Hodge to a two-year contract worth $2 million. He can earn up to $1 million more if he earns a starting outside linebacker spot. Hodge was a reserve in New Orleans last season. Mar. 12 - 8:32 pm et Source: Miami Herald Panthers signed former Titans C Justin Hartwig to a five-year, $17 million contract, with $7 million in bonuses. It's a huge loss for Tennessee. Carolina had such a good time making a big free agency splash with Ken Lucas and Mike Wahle that they re-loaded again this year with Maake Kemoeatu and Hartwig. On paper, their O-line looks solid. March 13, 200620 yr http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/14085012.htm Source: DE Howard joining Eagles By Bob Brookover INQUIRER STAFF WRITER Just as many people expected, the Eagles' first significant move of the free-agent season was signing a player away from the New Orleans Saints. No, they didn't get center LeCharles Bentley, but a league source said that veteran defensive end Darren Howard agreed to a six-year deal with the Eagles late last night after spending the day in Philadelphia. Details, other than the length of the contract, were not immediately available. Gary Wichard, the agent for Howard, would not confirm the agreement but said he was working on a deal with the team. Howard, who spent the day with head coach Andy Reid, defensive coordinator Jim Johnson and new defensive line coach Pete Jenkins, was impressed by what he saw and heard during his visit. "I like the situation," the veteran defensive end said. "I like the organization, I like the people and the facilities are outstanding." Howard said his primary desire was to join a winning organization after spending the most difficult season of his career with the Saints last year. He said he did not consider the Eagles a 6-10 team that was headed in the wrong direction. "I want to get back on the winning side of things," Howard said. "I think the Eagles have established themselves in the NFL as a team that is consistently going to be successful. Sometimes an organization is going to stumble, but this is an organization that can be in the Super Bowl every single year and that's the kind of thing I'm looking for." Howard, according to Wichard, had been scheduled to also make visits to Kansas City and Seattle. Instead, he figures to be at a news conference today holding up an Eagles jersey and talking about teaming with Jevon Kearse at defensive end. The Eagles now have a four-man rotation of Kearse, Howard, Trent Cole and Juqua Thomas at defensive end. I'll believe it when i see it but Howard will be a nice addition. there's also a report from Fox that the Eagles signed Brian Finneran....Big f***in whoop....another #3 WR
March 13, 200620 yr Author BY ARMANDO SALGUERO AND JASON COLE asalguero@MiamiHerald.com The Dolphins are looking for an offensive boon in free agency today, at once hoping to land quarterback Drew Brees and a left tackle who can keep him healthy. Even as the Dolphins agreed to terms with defensive players Sedrick Hodge and Andre' Goodman on Sunday, they were negotiating feverishly with left tackle L.J. Shelton while also treating Brees to some sights around South Florida. Today, the serious negotiations with Brees are joined in earnest as agent Tom Condon and Miami general manager Randy Mueller are scheduled to talk numbers. This after Brees left New Orleans on Sunday, ending two whirlwind days. WEIGHING OPTIONS ''I had a great time. I obviously got to meet all the coaches. I spent a lot of time with Coach [sean] Payton and [general manager] Mickey Loomis, and it was sweet,'' Brees told New Orleans reporters. ``We had a great time. We talked about the offense quite a bit. I had a chance to see the city and some of the neighborhoods and that sort of thing. I really got a lot accomplished.'' Brees was asked if his departure from the Big Easy would mean a Big Letdown for the embattled city because the Saints had failed in their attempt to sign him. ''No, not at all,'' he responded. ``I'm evaluating all of my options, and I want to make sure that I give everything the chance that it deserves. I'm really just taking in a lot of information right now, and, obviously, a decision will be made.'' That decision could come as early as today if negotiations strike the right chord -- and for Brees that means $10 million per year and $10 million in guarantees. The Dolphins were offering approximately $5 million to $7 million in guarantees two days ago. If the gap isn't bridged, Brees likely will be heading back to New Orleans, and the Dolphins will fall back to what is clearly their second option: Somehow acquiring Minnesota quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper, who Nick Saban talked to by phone during the weekend, is available because he requested a trade out of Minnesota citing irreconcilable differences with the club. He could also be released before Thursday. Culpepper is waiting for Brees, and the Dolphins to make their decision before he continues his efforts to leave Minnesota. According to several sources, Culpepper told the Tennessee Titans he did not wish to be traded there at this time but left open the possibility later. It was no coincidence that the Titans on Saturday dropped out of the running to trade with Minnesota. The Oakland Raiders and Dolphins are the only teams talking to Minnesota. Regardless which quarterback the Dolphins sign, it seems they have focused on the left tackle they want to protect that quarterback. Shelton, 6-6 and 345 pounds, visited the Dolphins on Sunday, and the team immediately opened contract negotiations with his agent, according to two NFL sources. The sides were close to an agreement, the sources said, with a deal possible by as early as today. Shelton, 29, is available in part because the Browns ''upgraded,'' according to Cleveland coach Romeo Crennel, by signing Atlanta's Kevin Shaffer. The Dolphins showed mild interest in Shaffer but backed away when they heard of his monetary demands. Shaffer's deal in Cleveland is for six years and worth approximately $36 million, with $12 million in guaranteed money. The Dolphins were not flying in that high orbit Sunday. NEW ADDITIONS Hodge leaves New Orleans and comes to Miami by agreeing to a two-year deal worth $2 million with up to $1 million in incentive money if he can challenge for the Dolphins' starting outside linebacker spot. Hodge was suspended for the first four games in 2004 for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, but the Dolphins apparently have decided he is not a character concern. Goodman, at 27 a solid run-supporting corner who will compete for a starting job in training camp, agreed to a three-year deal worth approximately $5 million. Goodman started eight games in 2005 for the Detroit Lions. ''The bottom line is both players had other options but are really happy in Miami,'' said agent Brian Mackler. ``It's a great fit for both guys.'' The Dolphins apparently didn't think they had a great fit with New England receiver David Givens. He left town Sunday and flew to Houston. Today he is expected to visit Tennessee. During his time in South Florida, Givens joined coach Nick Saban and Mueller for dinner but never got a contract offer. The Dolphins have more visits scheduled for today, including New England offensive tackle Tom Ashworth. LINK
March 13, 200620 yr Author With one free-agent runner already gone and another likely to leave, the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night filled their need for a starting running back by reaching a contract agreement in principle with Mike Anderson. Anderson, 32, will sign a four-year, $8 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus. The deal will be completed later this week. It's likely the Ravens will also try to bolster their tailback depth chart through the draft. A six-year veteran and two-time 1,000-yard rusher, Anderson was released by the Denver Broncos last week for salary cap reasons. Baltimore lost highly regarded backup tailback Chester Taylor when he signed a $14.1 million deal Saturday with the Minnesota Vikings. Starting tailback Jamal Lewis, also an unrestricted free agent, probably will leave the Ravens as well. There have been some discussions aimed at keeping Lewis via a contract extension, but the two sides are not making progress. Ironically, one of the other teams interested in Lewis, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards in 2003, is Denver. It's believed Lewis is considering a visit with Broncos officials this week. The Ravens don't have any other tailbacks on the roster with starting experience, and Anderson is a good fit with the team's power-based offense. It appears the Ravens landed Anderson at a fair price and with a deal that does not put them at too much financial exposure with an older back. During his Broncos tenure, Anderson appeared in 74 games and started 51 of them. He carried 865 times for 3,822 yards and 36 touchdowns. He also had 79 receptions for 647 yards and five touchdowns. A former Utah standout, Anderson was a sixth-round choice in the 2000 draft, a late bloomer who did not begin his college career until he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned league rookie of the year honors in 2000 when he rushed for a career-best 1,487 yards and 15 touchdowns. Over the next four years, Anderson -- who turns 33 in September -- rushed for only 1,321 yards, and he missed the entire 2004 season with a severe groin injury. He rebounded in '05, regained his starting job and posted a team-high 1,014 yards and 12 touchdowns. LINK
March 13, 200620 yr Author ASHBURN, Va. ? (AP) ? The Washington Redskins added safety Adam Archuleta to their free agency haul Monday, the team's fourth acquisition in three days. Archuleta, who had played five years with the St. Louis Rams, joins receivers Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El and tight end Christian Fauria as the newest additions to Joe Gibbs' team. The hard-hitting safety would appear to be the replacement for Ryan Clark, whom the Redskins were unable to re-sign before the start of free agency. He also provides insurance in case Sean Taylor misses playing time because of aggravated assault charges in Florida. Archuleta was first-round pick (No. 20 overall) out of Arizona State by the Rams in 2001. He has started 69 of 72 games with 547 tackles, 15 sacks, 25 deflected passes and two interceptions. Last year, he started 14 games and had 93 tackles, 3? sacks, five pass deflections and one interception. Wow Archuleta and Taylor in the same defensive backfield...are the Deadskins trying to win something???
March 13, 200620 yr Where the hell are they getting all this money? Now they are interested in John Abraham. Nice backup plan to get Arch if Taylor goes to jail.
March 13, 200620 yr This is just what the Skins do every year. Spend, spend, spend and the local media flips sh*t over how they are going to the Super Bowl and then they suck. It is quite comical to watch.
