Olsen activated, V Nunez designated for assignment

Roster moves: The Marlins announced a couple of roster moves Monday, activating right-handed pitcher Kevin Olsen off the 60 day disabled list and then recalling him from Triple-A Albuquerque.

To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed reliever Vladimir Nunez was designated for assignment.

Olsen last appeared with the Marlins on June 27 at Fenway Park against the Red Sox. In the seventh inning, however, he was involved in a scary moment, getting struck in the right side of his head by a Todd Walker line drive.

The ball pegged his right ear, causing a concussion and a laceration that required seven stitches.

Olsen provides depth as a potential emergency starter or long reliever.

Excited Olsen is back. But, McKeon has already said he doesn't know if he can use him. Said he can't even get Helling enough time. Nevertheless, good to see Olsen back with the team.

I'm elated he was able to come back so quickly from that awful injury. Olsen has some upside still and will be a decent, cheap 5th starter/long reliever.

we still will be paying the remainder of his salary though.

fortunatly the year is almost over.

but as far as financially....we are saving nothing.

Perhaps you misunderstood the point of my post.

For 2003, as part of the Marlins total payroll, we have paid Nunez $1.4 million, and by cutting him loose, that's $1.4 million we don't have to worry about (or factor into budgeting) for the next season. With less than 20 games left (I'm so bummed, I want this season to never end ) I was really thinking about the release of Nunez as it impacts 2004.

The good news here is the dumping of Vlady's $1.4 million salary. It all adds up.

Definitley. Too bad we couldn't have traded him when he still had some value.

Can you believe the Yanks actually wanted him? :lol

We should of gave him another shot at the Bigs. I know he could of pitched as good as last year. Well olsen isnt too bad. He can start and he can relieve. We have him and Tejera in the long relief role. Thats good too have at least 2.

i dont believe nunez was ever signed for 2004.

if he was, we are still responsible for his contract, as most multimillion dollar contracts are guaranteed.

He's not.

He was arbitration eligible.

I will miss him but not how he did this year but i will miss him for what he did last year. He was our most dependable reliever last year and got the job done MOST of the time.
