Give Lee some props...

Featured Replies

I watched Lee have a good AB today where he fought off a pitch and drove it up the middle which scored Encarnacion (who previously had a very nice AB). So I took a peek at what he has been doing the last several days, and I was pleasantly surprised:

7 G, 21 AB, 5 R, 6 H, 2 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 4 BB, 9 KO,

.286 AVG, .407 OBP, .667 SLG, 1.074 OPS

We have been missing Lowell for 11 games now (?). Lee has picked up his production and I think we need to give some props...

Also, A Gonz seems to be picking up his production as well. Conine, I think, is going to hit 20+HR next season and has just hit his 1st HR for us - it was like old times. That should help him get rolling. And how about Pudge's super-sub performance, comes in and hits a 2 run homer...

You are a big man, Cape. Good for you. Enjoy Lee while he is around, I just hope he keeps it up - he seems to do well against the Braves too...

I think Lee's having a fine season. Both offensively and defensively. I don't necessarily think he'll be around next year, though.

Lee has the GG in the palm of his hand this year, along with a 30 HR season.

Too bad he's gonna end up becoming a superstar in Atlanta next year.

I don't know....I think it'll be tough to unseat Helton.

You're right, but it's tough to unseat someone if they put a string of Gold-Glove wins together. J.T Snow is in the running, too.

I've always liked Derrek.

Just to add some further support, though...

His OPS is now 2nd on the team at .867, just behind Lowell's .882...

Also, to counter the most common criticism of him--that he isn't clutch--his OPS is now higher with men on and also with men in scoring position than with none on. So, he's not doing it when it doesn't matter. In truth, he's produced as many key hits as anyone else on the team since the All-Star Break.

I will also miss him when he's gone...

people will find out next year how bad we will miss Lee (please sign Lee back next year!)

so you want to resign DLee at $6-8mil....

so who is gone....?

Lowell, Cabs, or 9er?

makes little sense at this point

As much as I like Lee, I have to agree at this point...

Conine isn't quite as good, but he's here to stay apparently, so the team has to make choices, and Lee is probably the most expendable high salary guy on the team. If everything goes according to plan with Stokes, the Marlins should hardly miss a beat...of course, who knows how that will work out.

Sadly, these are the choices this franchise has to make.

Id much rather be rid of niner and keep Lee, but the organization already sealed Lee's fate. I'd rather non-tender Luis, but with the acquisition of niner it forces our hand...making him the most expendable high salary guy.

*hands Lee some props*

he'll always have a good OB% because he'll take walks.

and the way his bat has picked up a little lately is good to see. he didn't quite go through the "bad first half - hot second half" that he normally does, but recently he's looked more comfortable at the plate than I've seen him all year.

Sham, if we were talking about equal salary I'd take Lee also...

jonnylons i have no idea why you'd predict Conine to hit over 20 HR next year. He's been hitting in a good hitters park in Baltimore and hasn't gone over 20 in eight years.

I agree HC. The money just isnt there. I just hate it when people say they'd rather have Conine because hes a better player. ugh.

Lee will get no less than 5

Please don't start with this again.D.Lee is doing well lately and let just hope he can continue to perform the way he is.Everytime Lee lovers make a thread to give props to lee,He end up going into a slump so please refrain yourself from making these type of threads.

Yea lee has been producing since last week. He has been red hot and putting very good swings. He is also being Patient at the plate during this streak. Keep it up D!

I give Lee some props for taking over and actually producing... wish he could do the samething 1st half of a season aswell.

Lee will get over $6.5 million.

HC, that would be not over 20 HR in 7 years, including this year. Was he hitting in a hitters park in Balt? Yes. Was he in a hitters league? Yes. Why would I have the audacity to make a prediction that says he will hit 20+ homeruns (meaning at least 20, or more)? Because he has been notoriously good at JRS - especially when you consider he is a right handed bat.

'95, '96 he had 20+. '94 he would have, had he not gotten injured (only played 115games but had 18 HR). '97, he was injured off and on but still put up 17HR (his AVG was terrible though, .242).

But since '98, Conine has only played in over 130 games - twice! ('99, '01, 139Gs each) If he can play a whole season, he will be right about 20HR. In fact, his power numbers have gone up every year since '98 (by 1-2 HR, but also check out his SLG. His OBP in .386, a .311 AVG and he actually played almost a full season).

Does Conine have Lee's potential? No. But in some ways, Conine is a better player - a much needed leader, a winner, and a guy who can get it done in the clutch - yes, that's right. He hits the good ones good and the great ones good too. But considering that we should be losing Lee to free agency - we need to keep Lowell and AJ around - Conine will do very nicely until Stokes can take over. I dont see why Conine cannot hit another 4 homeruns next year - he might even do it this year.

Lee will be one of the most complete players in the game, and will be considered a top 10 major leaguer after next year.

How can anyone not love Derrek Lee?

You'll love him next year, when he's a Brave.
