Marlins Best Case/Worst Case Scenarios

Featured Replies

Florida Marlins

Last World Series title: 2003.

Best case: Jeremy Hermida is Jeff Francoeur, only with more patience. Mike Jacobs hits 20 homers in the cleanup spot and Hanley Ramirez is as good as advertised. All that hard work under new manager Joe Girardi in spring training pays off and the youthful Marlins win a surprising 70 games and challenge Washington for fourth place.

Worst case: Dontrelle Willis jams his hand with a head-first slide and has to sit out six weeks. Miguel Cabrera leads the majors with 180 walks and has a hard time concealing his displeasure. The young pitching can't live up to the hype, and the Marlins fall short of the 60-win mark.

Thoughts?

he about hit the nail on the head in my opinion...although i think the best case scenario has us winning more than 70 if all those things fall into place...but on the other hand, this is a team because of its youth, that if we struggle and struggle bad at the beginning, it could be like driving around with no tires on the bus...and thats bad

yeah exactly, best case is more than 70 wins... this is a young team, no doubt, but they are talented and prized prospects, not the bad news bears or kc royals. Best case is these former top prospects perform to their potential in their first year (ala Francouer, etc...) and win some games.

Actually perfect. Everything needs to go right for 70 with this current roster.

jebus. some of these cats are delusional if they think we're winning more than 70.

Exactly. This is going to be a long season

07 and certainly 08. But this season? ugh, no. :confused

meh, it's more fun believing this team will be better than most think

That's best case, my man. Nobody is expecting it.

Between 60 and 70 is extremely optimistic as is...but there's no harm in hoping for more wins. It's not like you're saying Josh Willingham is going to hit .197 with 3 homers or anything. :lol

2007 and beyond, howeva.... :hat

i still say this team will have as good of a record, if not better than last years team... you can all say "i told you so" if i'm wrong... but when i'm right...

Last year with a lineup of great players we finished what 4th in the division? We only got worse for the current time. If I asked anyone would you rather have Delgado/Lowell/Castillo/etc. in place of who we have now, how many people would say, yeah I want a minor league team! I say the team flirts with the 500 mark all year but down the stretch the pitching implodes and the minor leaguers get tired with the bats as well.

That is what I don't want to happen and why Moehler and Mitre should start for a few months, at a minimum, before giving way to the kids. Ending strong in August and September to build confidence into next year should be the goal. The organization should hope to play .500 in the second half.

But on top of the innings pitched I worry the young guys might try too hard and maybe not hurt themselves, but at least wear themselves out quicker. Spring training is different because these guys can relax and for the most part they faced minor leaguers most of the time thanks to the WBC. This year should be used to see what we have and try and get momentum going into next year or maybe the year after.

:plain

difference is that team collapsed

this one is starting from scratch ... if they finish 5/10 games behind last year total it will be a productive season stat wise but, if you were to say that last year's team would finish 4th with such record you might have been banned from here

and the diffence from the players those pitchers were facing is?

That team collapsed but they did have more skill. That team didn't gel and that is why they collapsed. But people assume this team will gel and do great things. Why? Because they are a bunch of young guys? A lot of these guys have just been brought in so they never played together, we ask "who are these guys" guess what they were asking the same thing. This team has no clear leaders, no anything, this team has to start from scratch. Of who the players can rely on, who the jokster will be, we don't know because they are still in the developmental part of a team. And I am saying the guys last year finished the way they did in hindsight. There was a lot of buzz circling the team last year before the year I can only imagine what people on here were saying with that team.

And what I meant by the facing minor leaguers thing was that the spring training record is a bit misleading. Our minor leaguers are better than anyone else's no doubt, because our minor league team is also our starting players this year. We faced a lot of teams who lost a bunch of players to the WBC in spring training and we only lost 2.

That's not right. If everything clicks, we'll win more than 70 wins.

I agree.. I think if this team clicks real well we can challange for a .500 record...

Worst case Scenario> Marlins dont win one game. :banghead

Best case Scenario> Marlins win the world series. :thumbup

i ain't changing my mind till the kids show me something different on the field. you can bring up the lack of experience and stats all you want. but until they finish the season with an awful record, i ain't buying it.
