And no the ERA wont drop. His stuff is just plain BAD(below average drasticially)...pitchers with his talent rarely(if ever) make it out of single A ball.

As someone that actually lives close to Chicago, and not some hick town that doesn't even get power, I can tell you that Mitre was one of the Cubs highly touted prospects the past few years. He was thier #1 pitching prospect 2 years back.

 

You don't do that with A ball stuff. The Cubs had nowhere to put him and couldn't get him consistent innings, that is why he has high numbers.

More than you could ever hope to know anyway.

Last season, Mitre threw 66% groundballs. He allowed 41 flyballs of which 11 went for home runs. These were mistake pitches because concentration has been what has done him in. More evidence....

 

Mistakes in Wrigley are costly. In his career he has given up 16 home runs, 12 of them in Wrigley.

With the bases empty batters have a .316 average against him.

1st and 2nd = .244

Our ballpark should help and most of all hopefully maturity will have him concentrate each and every inning. For years we had that problem with Josh Beckett until he matured and got over that one bad inning....or AJ's problem of letting one hit followed by a walk turn into a big inning because he was thinking more about what happened instead of what's next.

 

I think Mitre will be a solid pitcher at some point.

Who cares if he's only made 21 appearances? As someone already said, he wasnt exactly impressive in the minors either. And that comparassion is almost moot, since Mitre pitched better @ Wrigley then he did on the road, including some appearances in pitcher friendly parks.

No! No! No! Facts are bad! He is garbage because Spike says so. He will never be a winner, he is a waste of a roster spot, and actually a waste of breath. Spikes opinion > facts.

As for my small hick town with no power, oh please. The St. Louis metropolitan area starts about a half hour from my front door(including it's Metrolink transit system), with the city proper being an hour. Had sattelite TV since I was 4. Schools had computers in every classroom since kindergarton.

 

Also lived in Clarksville, TN. A nice city in its own right, and 40 minutes from Nashville.

 

I mean, the only time I've used an outhouse was in Iraq.

I am looking at whips. He gets hit nicely. That never translates well. Plus, as I've said, I've VISIUALLY watched him suck on more occasionst than I can count.

 

And Mitre has 36 appearanes in the majors. And he has been bad 99% of the time.

so let's get this straight....Spike hates Mitre cause he sucks and Willingham because he's a 27 year old prospect who stinks at catching.....

Ok, technicially, 33% he is what I'd call really bad(% of games he gave up same amount or more runs than IP), the rest of the time he was medicore @ best.

 

You'll see what I'm talking about when you watch him, he's horrible.

 

And, for the last time...I dont hate either of them. Mitre does suck, but thats besides the point. I am actually thinking Willingham will turn into a good catcher, or average at least.

His strikeout rates aren't terrible, but don't inspire confidence either. However, if he is a sinker-baller, those typs tend to increase their strikeouts as they age...so more of those may be coming in the future.

 

Average control; not a problem necessarily, but not a strength.

 

Overall I see a slightly above-average minor league pitcher. However, he was the Cubs #1 pitching prospect for years: There must be a reason, right? Also, he's Girardi's #2 pitcher: There must be a reason, right? I haven't seen him pitch, which is why I was wondering if someone who had could tell me if there's somethng that he brings to the table that you can't measure in stats.

 

Or, is he Girardi's #2 simply because he's the 3rd most experienced starter on the team and his name isn't Moehler?

Mitre is only 24 years old and still has talent in him. He is a solid starter on alot of ball clubs. He has been shuffled around between triple A and the bigs, the bullpen and starting. He has started 18 games in his career and has already pitched a Complete Game shut out and a two hit shut out. To say that he is garbage and has Class A stuff is just being stupid and makes you sound ignorant.

Mitre is primarially a sinkerballer. Expect him to get slapped around, and kicked out of the rotation by the end of May. He really is horrible.
