without Mazzone :) . Smoltz with 5 earned runs in just 3 innings of work.

Just like he started out last year. They still finished pretty good if I recall, their bullpen is what they needed to work on most.

He had a rough first outing against us last season, still had a good year.

If Mazzone was there the result would be no different. What is Mazzone going to tell Smoltz at this point in his career?

The Braves will be there in September as always.

P.S It's game 2.

OMG the Braves sux0rz!!!!

LMAO!!!!! ^

opening day was ugly, they barely won that, if they want to get off to a better start they need to control the pitching a little beter. they can still hit though

Aside from the Smoltz experiment, the Braves haven't had a great closer in the last 10 years and yet they find ways to keep winning.

162 games people, 162 games

Well.. another Braves starting pitcher is sucking it up tonight..

Yeah well, same for the Dodgers. They just blew a 5 run lead.

Pssh, but I made my comment before the Dodger's pitcher blew up.

Eight runs surrendered by Atlanta so far with the bases loaded and two outs, LA batting in the 7th.

Shootout from Dodger Stadium

No way can Atlanta's offense keep this up.

Atlanta is just teasing you. They want to get our hopes up that they finally won't win the division, but don't worry, they'll find a way to win. The Lord of Darkness will make it so.

None of those guys are "great closers" (i.e. Rivera, Percival, Hoffman, et al) you think of. They always find a guy for a seaon or two and then move on to the next guy.

For those keeping score at home...Smoltz and Hudson's last two outings:

Smoltz: 9 IP, 4 H, 0 ER

Hudson: 9 IP, 3 H, 1 ER

Hudson's outing was real good yesterday against a potent Met's lineup. As much as I hate Atlanta it's good to see Huddy get back on track.

You also forgot Kyle Davies CG

Atlanta is 19th in MLB.

But guess what? The Marlins are 14th.
