Biggest concern

Featured Replies

Everyone who said CF....care to change your answer?

:mischief

sure do...now i say jacobs and the little thing that wins championships, DEFENSE.

CF Situation, SP has not been enough, bullpen (what can I say, it just sucks), and lastly I want Jacobs to STOP completely swinging at first pitches. Defense and mental/running erros have cost us some runs/games but that is to be expected from rookies.

BULLPEN!

We put up 8 runs and D-train has a solid start, for the most part and we lose the game in the 9th...lost our chance of taking our first series of the season. It may not be a while before we have that opportunity looking at our upcoming schedule (maybe Philly...).

I wouldn't give up on CF...catching is fine w/ Olivo/Willingham combo

Bullpen.

Again we find out why it's the most important part of any team.

Joe Girardi use of the bullpen is my biggest concern.

Josh Johnson- should be the current closer

Franklin German- should pitch the 8th/primary set-up man for Johnson (got to find out if he has a future on this team)

Joe Boe- should set things up for German/Johnson, keep games close reliver

Randy Messenger- has to be given more consistent work, and tougher situations to pitch in or else send him down(we need to find out what he has)

Ricky Nolasco- long relief, more than 1 inning of work (please don't use him to just retire one batter one day, and another try to squeeze 2-3 inings out of him)

Todd Wellemeyer- middle relief (1-2 ining guy/better mop up than Herges)

Matt Herges- warm body/mop up

As much as I say pitching is 90% of the game, I still the defense is the worst part of the Marlins. With this years Marlins a misplay here or there gives the other team an extra base. All it takes is a missed throw to the cutoff man or an error and next thing you a bunch of runs have scored.

Ramirez doesn't throw the ball away on Sunday and Marlins might have won. Instead we gave the Nats another out. He makes the play and things "could" have been different.

Today, the little bloop into CF should have been caught by Reggie or Uggla. Olivo misplayed a ball (according to Dave van Boring). Uggla threw the ball away giving the runner an extra base.

Biggest concern.....keeping the team in South Florida and financially healthy.

.

.

It's way to early to even think about catcher or CF, etc. Get back to me in 2 years about what the teams player concerns are. Hopefully, at that time, we'll know that they're remaining in South Florida. At that point, if they're not in South Florida, they could put Marvelous Marv Throneberry as catcher for all I would care.

Yeah, not really. Our lack of hitting and poor performance from our starters has caused most of our losses so far. The bullpen is worthless if we don't give them a lead to a hold, and we've only done that in 6 of our first 14 games.

CF situation

Olivio is heating up and he calls a good game

Yep CF is the biggest. Both Reed & Abercrombie have looked overmatched at the plate -- but Abbie seems to have picked it up in the last couple of days. That HR today was a thing of BEAUTY. :thumbup

Front Office: Samson

:lol :lol :lol

:banghead

Its funny but true !!! :lol

I don't like the bullpen at all, and Herges is not a closer... id go with Borowski. Today's game was simply unacceptable, this game was practically won. I feel bad for Dontrelle, even though this was his worst start he should be 4-0 right now.

Loss #1- 1-0 to Astros, bullpen surrenders only Astros run. Roy Oswalt-Brad Lidge pitch well.

Loss #2- 6-5 to Astros, Moehler's fault.

Loss #3- 9-3 to Mets, Vargas' fault/Trachsel pitches well

Loss #4- 3-2 to Mets, bullpen loses game in bottom of the ninth

Loss #5- 9-3 to Padres, Williams pitches well and Khalil Greene blows up

Loss #6- 7-2 to Padres, Moehler's fault

Loss #7- 2-1 to Nats, Pen can't put out Olsen's fire

Loss #8- 7-5 to Nats, Pen blows ninth inning lead

Loss #9- 9-1 to Reds, Claussen pitches well

Loss #10- 9-8 to Reds, Pen blows lead

That's five out of ten losses that can be attributed to the bullpen. Of the games our offense didn't put up the normal production they've been going for this season, two were against pitchers with great stuff who are unhittable when on (Oswalt, Patterson), two were against solid pitchers who give their teams good games more often than not (Trachsel, Williams) and two were some of those games you're just going to have everyonce in a while where a random pitcher shuts down a good offense (Claussen, Young). Even then, the two against the great pitchers could have easily been won if the pen does its job.

I really do feel for Willis, and its only time until this takes a toll of him, and he lashes out. Now whether its public or not, he will soon get his fill of it and something will be said. I just hope he doesn't do it in the media, like demand a trade -- he doesn't seem like the type to do that but you never know what someone will do until they are under that extreme pressure.

Lack of defensive discpiline is killing us -- always trying to make that spectacular play, instead of playing it safe. I don't know if it's our biggest problem, but it's a problem.

That could just be an expierence problem, but it will get tiring and I just hope we can remain patient enough to let them grow, but it sure is painful to be a Fish fan right now.

Agreed, it is lack of experience. But the mental mistakes are always the most frustrating.

Loss #4- 3-2 to Mets, bullpen loses game in bottom of the ninth

IMO, defense(Hermida miss played ball) and not driving runs in cost us this game.

Loss #8- 7-5 to Nats, Pen blows ninth inning lead

IMO, Joe Girardi(trying to extend Carlos Martinez) and defense(Hanley Error) cost us this game.

Loss #10- 9-8 to Reds, Pen blows lead

IMO, Joe Girardi trying to get another inning out of Ricky Nolasco, then taking him out with the bases loaded 0 outs and putting Matt Herges cost us this game

Carlos Martinez's elbow....

cause? Joe Girardi :whistle

Loss #1, wow they gave up a run in 4 innings. How horrible.

Loss #4, Carlos Martinez who pitched in A ball last year, gives up a run in the 9th. Wow, string him up for that horrible performance.

Loss #7 Olsen leaves in a tie game with with 2 runners on base and only 1 out, 1 of the runners comes in to score. Overall the pen goes 3 2/3 scoreless innings in that game.

So in those 3 losses the pen's overall ERA is just above 2, and we score a grand total of 3 runs in those 3 games. You tell me what the problem was in those 3 losses.
