Posted May 6, 200618 yr I was a big fan of the way Boog called the Marlins games. In fact I used to turn the TV volume down and listen to the radio broadcast. I always thought he'd be doing Marlins game for a long time....... Anyone know what happened? Im sure this was discussed on this board at one time but I wasnt a member yet. Thanks.
May 6, 200618 yr Author $$$$ Could he really make that much more dough calling a few games for ESPN instead of doing 162 Marlins games. I dont know much about salaries for TV play by play guys vs. radio. It seems as if he does very few games on ESPN.

May 6, 200618 yr Author We lost so many.. OB, Boog, Len etc: Yeah OB did a great job.....Len was good but wasnt around for very long to begin with. If I remember correctly Joe Angel got shafted a bit and I remember him in tears at the end of his last broadcast. It just weird because for a while it seemed as though they were grooming Boog to be the main Marlins play by play guy (meaning he was gonna make the jump from radio to TV). $$$$ Could he really make that much more dough calling a few games for ESPN instead of doing 162 Marlins games. ESPN really needs to step him up in terms of exposure. Its not like there is this plethora of great baseball broadcasters out there. You hear me Joe Morgan/Buck? :thumbup
May 6, 200618 yr TheDon I was being dead serious. Your right that is the sarcastic "Im a smart ass" thumbups emoti. Sorry about that. :lol
May 6, 200618 yr ESPN was tempting I'm sure, but what really helped his decision was when Jon Weiner offered him a show mid-day on 790 The Ticket. I think he realized that the ESPN gig would not keep him occupied seeing as how it was only once a week (and you figure, a day of research?)

May 6, 200618 yr (LeBatard and Stugotz being the same age as him helped a bit too, I'm sure. They are like best buds now)

Yeah his show on 790 is great and probably the only talk radio show I can stomach. To the best of my knowledge its the only place to hear informative baseball talk.
May 7, 200618 yr I first heard Boog as an intern on WQAM he has gone a long way...I know play by play is his first love he has worked hard at it but talk radio is his root...He is soooo easy going and such a great guy ...his love for sports enables him to connect with the fan and really allows him to make each program a comforting and warm experience...I just wish I could listen here in orlando
May 7, 200618 yr his love for sports enables him to connect with the fan and really allows him to make each program a comforting and warm experience. I'm sure "Jane" disagree's with that statement :lol .

May 7, 200618 yr From what I remember of the situation, we had the opening in the TV booth because of Kaspar departing. Push came to shove and Boog did not get the nod to be the TV man (his radio contract was up), so he dipped to go to ESPN Radio (now The Ticket) which gave him his own radio show and the chance to do national broadcasts on ESPN. That's from memory though, so the details could be off.
May 7, 200618 yr Wasn't he over in Japan doing WBC games? :thumbup Actually he called those games while watching them in Bristol, CT and not in Japan. They mentioned that fact right from the top of the WBC. None of our announcers went to Japan.
