Good luck finding a seat.

That was the one thing I lucked into having been self forced into not catching a night showing. Less crowds which in turn meant more room in the theatre and less noise in the theatre.

Batman Begins is easily the best of the Batman films. The Burton films were still pretty cheesy...I can't think of the first Batman film without thinking of all the bright colors that were part of Joker's gang, and it just reminds me of the 80's, which was the cheesiest decade of all time. And Kim Basinger and all the girls in that movie had the big 80's hair. It was a very 80's Batman, even though it was released at the tail end of the decade. Batman returns did away with all the 80's stuff, but still, Penguin and Catwoman are inherently cheesy. And Devito certainly didn't make it any less so. Also, Michael Keaton is just about the cheesiest Batman possible. I'm pretty sure I could kick his ass.

The next two Batman movies were abominable.

Batman Begins...I have some problem with the dialogue in that movie. It's way too clever for its own good. But it's a pretty slick film, with some thematic heft to it, and what I thought was a very well done backstory. It also holds up on multiple repeat viewings on HBO.

My IMAX theater was 100% full at 1 PM on a weekday.

Luckily I got there early, but everyone was essentially sitting on top of one another.

Damn, that's pretty impressive.

The theatre I was at is in a busy area, is less than a year old, and was only like 60-70% full but it didn't feel crowded as the theatre is massive. They may have been playing it on 2 screens at that time, but I have no idea.

I can't wait to see the box office numbers for this thing after Sunday.

Wow...

I went to the 7:35 showing at IMAX. Got there at around 6, and we were second in line. It was worth the wait initially simply because we got the exact seats we wanted (2 rows from the top, dead center).

I loved this movie. I'd give it a 9/10 on the badass scale. The character development, the special effects, the general storyline---all FANTASTIC.

And I don't know how it was to watch on a normal screen, but the IMAX screen made it an incredible experience. Also, the various 3D scenes were phenomenal and seductive.

The 3D scenes I remember were when he was reminiscing about being a teenager on the farm, jumping amongst the crops, on top of the silo, etc; Also, the entire plane sequence was in 3D. There was something else that I cannot remember, and then the final scene was also in 3D. Just...amazing

Can't wait for #2!

Got back a little while ago from seeing the movie. I enjoyed it. I'm not as much of a movie guy as most of you are but I thought it was pretty good, and I'd give it 3/5 Dodge stars.

I agree. I didnt think it was that good.

I thought the start and middle were solid and Lex Luther was entertaining. But the movie ending got overly melodramatic. Superman being beaten and crushed and then rejuvinated twice does not fit well with plot. It was also chock full of some bad dialogue. When that kid looked over at his mom and said "I don't want him to die, I like him," my friend and I just started laughing. Definitely a drawn out ending.

It also lacked character development. It basically expected viewers to know about the characters from the first Superman movies. I think big time fans will like the movie because it appeals to their continuation needs. But it doesnt have the same new and engaging effect on other movie goers the way Batman begins did.

But thats just my opinion. 6/10.

This movie is everywhere. Every commercial, every store. What did the critics give? The previews look really good. The special effects look really awesome.

I'll most likely skip the movies because of the crowd factor and get the DVD.

This is a movie you have to see in the theatres. Just wait a few weeks for the initial rush to die down. It won't be done justice unless you have a movie theatre at your house.

My review of the movie is below.

To start with, I'm really not a fan of Superman. The character is always WAY too powerful in comparison to much more human characters like Spiderman, Batman, The Punisher, etc. He spends most of the movie until closer to the end doing stunts that no human could ever do. I know he's not human, but his character isn't even close to human either. He's only vunerable to kryptonite, which Luthor always seems to get a hold of.

My other problem with the character and the universe is, Superman doesn't have any strong villains beyond Lex Luthor, who is played very well by Kevin Spacey in this film. It was no surprise that he was able to do it, as he's one of the better actors you will ever see.

I didn't see very much character development as far as Superman. There was some on the part of Lois Lane, who goes from being angry at him for being gone, to nearly falling in love with him. But still, at the end of the film, she stays with her husband (played by James Marsden, aka Cyclops, who Singer owes a favor to for the awful treatment of Cyclops in the X-Men films), and not much changes afterward. No character of importance dies.

I also didn't think that the movie needed to be that long. The end after Superman throws the island into orbit was stretched out too long. I knew they weren't really going to kill him off, but they were trying to fool some people into believing it.

On the plus side, the graphics were incredibly well done, particularly the plane scene towards the beginning. I can see that 90% of the budget of this film went to graphics.

Brandon Routh does an incredible job in this film, able to switch back and forth between Superman and Clark Kent as well, if not better, than Chris Reeve. As Superman, he has a commanding presence that brings all of the attention straight to him. I also enjoyed his line after rescuing the passengers of the airplane about flying still being the safest way to travel. That was yet another flashback to the original film.

Another plus was the idea of having Lois' son turn out to be Superman's child, who gets to show off his power to save his mother on the ship. That at least makes for a major topic to continue in the sequel.

Characters like Jimmy Olsen and Perry White were well done by the actors that played them. The same goes for Luthor. Richard White's character was pretty unimportant for the most part, despite how much screen time he received. I also thought that Parker Posey's character should have been left on the cutting-room floor. It seemed like she would eventually try to intervene in Luthor's plans, but never does (unless you count throwing those crystals out of the helicopter, which was a bad idea anyway).

The scene of the woman in the runaway car came out of nowhere, and was basically a waste of time. They made it appear momentarily like it would be important, but to no avail.

Final Grades:

-Overall Acting: A

-Plot: D

-Casting: A

-Special Effects: A+

-Length: D

Overall Movie (not an average): C.

In some way Superman is MORE human than someone like Batman. He was raised in Kansas by a loving father and mother and just turned out to have extra-human abilities. Unlike Batman who is made less human by the death of his parents and thus seperates himself from all human contact in his quest for vengaence.

The question isn't how would Superman die, but how's he going to save the people he loves? Superman is selfless and so throws himself in the path of danger and even kryptonite to save those he loves.

I'm not a big time Superman fan, but I understand the attraction. If I was to list the comic characters I follow, it goes something like: 1. Batman, 2. X-Men, 3. Green Lantern, 4. Captain America, 5. Superman.

Speaking of which, since this is the forum to do it, anyone who really wants to know more about the movie and see an iconic rendering of the character should check out All-Star Superman. Written by Grant Morrison (a genius/nut) it is pretty much THE definitive rendering of Superman on newstands today. You have Lex Luthor as his most evil, just REALLY great science fiction writing with plot devices WAAAAAAY out of left field (a Morrison trademark) that you never expect and yet make total sense.

I'll give a little of a story synopsis: Superman, in a rescue mission to the Sun to save professor T.O. Morrow (there to collect a piece of the Sun for study). After saving them he finds that flying in such close proximity to the sun has increased his powers and brain activity 100x. However, it's also killing him. Morrow tells him his body has become like an overcharged battery and it's only a matter until he burns out, and so Superman tries to make amends with those he loves while living with the knowledge that he's dying (all of this, was of course a Luthor plot to get Superman close to the sun to see how it would affect him).

There's just tons of weird stuff that follows this...

That was Kitty and was a ploy to distract Superman from stopping/knowing about Lex stealing the kryptonite from the museum. I'd say it was pretty important and not a waste of time.

Oh, whoops. I didn't notice that. Thanks for clearing it up.

I saw the movie earlier today even though I didn't want to and I thank God I didn't have to pay. That junk was garbage. The movie went on for way to long and didn't really do anything except say that LL is a cheating ass ho.

That's literate.

Did anyone else notice that this scene is straight out of Action Comics #1 (first apperance of Superman)? :mischief2

The movie "tanked". Only earning 52 million over the weekend. It did a total of 81.5 over the 5-day which is 30th all time. I'm seeing it tomorrow after classes.

What a horribly bastardized movie. Removing the American Way is ridiculous. Claiming it's because the idea of the American Way has changed since the 50's is an insult to our intelligence. Just admit they were scared it might not gross as much overseas.

Screw the 10 bucks, don't waste three hours of your life on it. Boring, tedious, and not at all entertaining.

Warner Bros. was hoping it would rake in between 90 and $100 mil over the weekend. I think if this movie doesn't bring in solid numbers next weekend, we might forget about any possibility of a second one being made.

There will be sequels. I don't think there's any question of that. With all the merchandise, and all the DVDs and videogames, and whatever other bulls*** there is, this will end up making like $500 million net, at the very least. My theory is all this focus on box office numbers is a studio-driven conspiracy to keep people from focusing on all the other ways by which the studios make the majority of their income.

It'll make enough to garner a sequel. Don't kid yourself. After the world box-office, DVD's, special edition DVD's, comic books, trade paperbacks, action figures, video games, etc. that all comes with a comic book movie they'll make another.

Saw the movie yesterday. I'm not a big comic book fan, so maybe I just don't appreciate the characters, but I thought it was just OK. My main problem with the movie is that it just too long. It easily could be cut 30-45 minutes and still tell the same story.
