May 30, 200620 yr 5/29/06 Activated RHP Franklyn German from the 15-day disabled list and optioned LHP Renyel Pinto to Triple-A Albuquerque. :thumbdown They probably wanted to get him more work
May 30, 200620 yr pinto can still work on his command. this is the right and expected move, the tougher call will be who to send down when martinez comes back
May 30, 200620 yr Booooooo.....Pinto :banghead Just kidding...the guy is young and will be back. I just hate watching Wellemeyer and Herges pitch when we can see some real talent.
May 30, 200620 yr Pinto will do well in AAA for now...needs work....nothing wrong with going down to work.....next in line might be Petit if Messenger and Kensing continue to do well.....don't think the Marlins will get rid of Herges or Wellemeyer just yet....will wait till after the All star break...and then it is only a perhaps....
May 30, 200620 yr agree with 44 totally. no reason to run pinto's service clock in our big league pen when he could benefit from more experience and innings in the minors.

I just can't see Petit getting demoted. We need a "long" man now that JJ & Nolasco are in the starting rotation. Who will get the call the next time Moehler gets shelled in inning two or three? You don't want to burn out your bullpen with five guys all pitching an inning a piece. Beinfest needs to find a taker for Herges or Wellmeyer out there. Tell Theo that Cashman is looking at one or the other...then tell Cashman that Theo likes one of the two. Let's start a bidding war between the Sox and Yanks...maybe we can get some scraps for one of these guys. :whistle
May 30, 200620 yr as much as some of us want to trade welly/herges there's zero trade market for them right now...this includes JoBo1 and Moehler, neither of whom we'll probably trade all season long unless something unforeseen occurs. As for the long-man need, both Kensing and Messenger are capable of pitching multiple innings and will probably be called on in that role once K-Mart comes back and takes over the 8th inning bridge to JoBo1. Lastly, although Petit is pitching well right now the same thing applies to him in my earlier, above post, as it does to Pinto.
May 30, 200620 yr You have to believe Beinfest will try and move one of the veterans (Herges and Wellmeyer) rather than release either one. Perhaps a Tampa Bay or the Brewers could find some value in one or both of them, or even Herges' former team, the Giants might be willing to take another look at him. All of them have bullpens that need some shoring up, which is not to say either player is going to be considered the savior their bullpens need. I'm not a big German fan so for me seeing him return is a big "so what??". Fourteen walks in 12 innings scares the sh** out of me and even in his best season, 2005, where his ERA was okay (but not a good stat to look at for relievers) his line overall was pretty ugly. But I'm not the guy calling the shots so if he comes back and pitches well, I'm more than willing to be proven wrong.

Perhaps Messenger could be the long man...but certainly not Kensing. Logan has really taken hold of the eighth inning set-up role. I don't see him relinquishing it any time soon.
May 30, 200620 yr Yeah I agree that Pinto should be sent down. Like Sham said no reason to 'run Pinto's service clock' right now. He is a great pitcher, but still has some work to do. So let him do his thing in AAA and we'll see him again sometime in the near future. Petit I believe is a more ready, but same thing goes for him. He is probably next in line to get a rotation spot if someone were to fail miserably/get injured so let him go back down and get a full workload rather than an inning here and there.
May 30, 200620 yr Just to further my thought above, at least as it pertains to Herges. Tampa desperately needs help in the bullpen, and Herges lives up that way with an ailing newborn, etc., seems to me that the DRays might be the perfect place for him to land for a PTBNL. After all it's the roster spot that is important now. His trade value is nil, so any consideration whether it be a PTBNL or cash might work out for everyone concerned.
May 30, 200620 yr Kensing, having starter experience, can be used as a long man if need be. Same for Tankersly if he comes up at some point.
May 30, 200620 yr Kensing, having starter experience, can be used as a long man if need be. Same for Tankersly if he comes up at some point. Kensing is our eighth inning guy...he's not a long man. Tankersley does nothing to help solve the problem when Martinez is ready to return.
May 30, 200620 yr kensing, tank, messenger are capable of multiple inning stints malman, and carlos martinez will probably slide back into the setup role upon his return ala Girardi.

Hopefully kensing will still get the eigth inning...he has been lights on as of late. Would love to see Tank get the call as well...but I would prefer to see him as a lefty specialist. Let Messy & Petit eat up innings as long relievers if necessary.

May 30, 200620 yr i really like pinto in the pen, that was a really dumb move. He was doing good and theres like two or three guys who are struggling in the pen. good we got German back he has some nasty stuff, hopefully he is consistant though.
