June 18, 200620 yr The South Fla. Press will just not support the Marlins. The Miami Herald, Sun Sentinel, Radio 790 and 560 WQAM, will not support the team or the stadium effort. I have complied and email list to voice our dissatifation with their sports reporting. Please help keep the pressure on them to support the team. dlebatard@herald.com,Jorgas@miamiherald.com,bjackson@miamiherald.com,epope@herald.com publicrelations@knightridder.com,sales@790theticket.com,cspencer@miamiherald.com,igutierrez@miamiherald.com,kbaxter@miamiherald.com grichards@miamiherald.com,lrobertson@miamiherald.com,jshain@miamiherald.com,maddog@wqam.com,cclark@miamiherald.com,gcote@herald.com
June 19, 200620 yr Boog Schiambi said today on his 790AM radio show that even though this current Marlins' run has been outstanding, there is no way the Marlins will be in the playoff race at the end of the year
June 19, 200620 yr To say it so finitely like that is ridiculous. How can you say 'no chance' when they are on a tear, only 6.5 back and it's only June?
June 19, 200620 yr e-mailing everyone on that list...will mean absolutely nothing....the media can't do anything at this point until the local political leaders in Miami-Dade County and the City of Hialeah make a decision..... the team has already stated that it isn't going to negotiate for a new stadium in the local or national media....point blank...so that would just be really a waste of time...so if you want to waste your time....feel free
June 19, 200620 yr Boog Schiambi said today on his 790AM radio show that even though this current Marlins' run has been outstanding, there is no way the Marlins will be in the playoff race at the end of the year Thanks for the shocking revelation there Boog. Despite the fact that he used to do play-by-play for the team, I get the feeling he's not really much a fan of the Marlins. And now that he does espn games he's not even all that knowledgable about the team anymore. He already predicted they'd lose over 100 games. Ed Kaplan's the only local radio guy who I've heard show any genuine excitement over this team. But the big test will come after the NBA Finals are finished. Let's see how much attention they get, or if we go straight to Dolphins offseason talk as is usually the case. :lol
June 19, 200620 yr Boog is a Mets fan....always was and still is. He tried to bolt from the Marlins radio booth anyway he could. I guess he must have flushed his 2003 ring down the toilet.
June 19, 200620 yr Boog is a Mets fan....always was and still is. He tried to bolt from the Marlins radio booth anyway he could. I guess he must have flushed his 2003 ring down the toilet. That's why he stayed on in South Florida as a daily radio host?
June 19, 200620 yr Boog grew up as a die-hard Philly fan, not a Met fan. He also turned down a Mets pbp job not too long ago. Safe to say he isn't a Mets fan, lol. Boog just likes to make cynical, rational analysis and seperate himself from "the masses" so he isn't saddled with false predictions. I used to really like Boog but his ego is out of control, I mean, he talks about and analyze SPORTS for a living. He acts like he is researching the cure for cancer. If there was truly a demand for Marlin talk, like there is for Heat and Dolphin talk they'll be nudged by thier sponsorship to accomodate that demand. Bottom line, sports media is stupid and irrelavant. As a Marlin fan especially this must be your mantra.
June 19, 200620 yr If there was truly a demand for Marlin talk, like there is for Heat and Dolphin talk they'll be nudged by thier sponsorship to accomodate that demand. I disagree with that. I think each host's knowledge drives what people call about. I mean, why would a baseball fan or a hockey fan call a Jim Mandich or a Joe Rose with a baseball or hockey question? These guys know less baseball or hockey than the average fan so why bother? Kaplan and Boog are the only local hosts who are knowledgeable baseball fans. Baseball fans are out there. Look at the '03 WS ratings compared to the Heat finals ratings. The WS rating was about 50% higher. There's no baseball talk on the radio because the local host don't know baseball.

Basically, true-and while Boog seems to say things just to create a stir, just to create a stir, what makes him somewhat unlistenable, is his penchant for repeating, for repeating things. He can rarely go three sentences, rarely go three sentences, without repeating, i repeat, without repeating himself.

June 19, 200620 yr I always listen to Joe Rose in the morning, and hes been very positive about the marlins current run and the team in general. He's always shouting praise for the job girardi has done lately.

Joe Rose is a guy who I can tell would like to talk about the Dolphins and some golf all year long but he gives an honest effort to give the Marlins props.

Thats b/c joe's primary sport is football, but he doesnt bad mouth the marlins which is a plus
June 20, 200620 yr Best way to get sports radio talking about the Marlins is to keep calling in all day to talk about the Marlins I would but I can't afford the long distance charges.
June 20, 200620 yr Eddie K has always been and always will be the Marlins biggest supporter in terms of local media. Whoever mentioned Boog's ego is dead on. I use to like Boog a lot but I cant stand him anymore. He always tries to pass his predictions or opinions on as fact. Its funny not too long ago 790 did a little montage piece on all the things Boog has said that were completely and utterly wrong, it was quite funny. The local media begininng with Fat Ass Hank Goldberg have always despised the Marlins.
June 20, 200620 yr Author This is Jeff Shains Responce! Writers don't make the call as to what goes on the front and what doesn't, but there are a couple of points that should be made here. 1) It's June. Chill out. The baseball season isn't even at the All-Star break yet. Between the Heat, World Cup, College World Series and U.S. Open, that's a pretty full plate. Every one of those events is their sports' showcase. A June series against Toronto doesn't stack up. Ever. 2) You might have a better argument if more fans turned out to the local ballyard. Just for kicks, I checked the MLB attendance figures. Care to guess the bottom? 27 Pittsburgh 36 795,192 22,088 28 Kansas City 29 509,846 17,580 29 Tampa Bay 29 452,108 15,589 30 Florida 31 345,362 11,140 3) Maybe you don't like the World Cup, Jim, but there are plenty of English-speakers who do. And yesterday's U.S.-Italy game was compelling theater even for most casual sports fans. It deserved the front. Let soccer have its once-every-four-years spotlight. We promise the World Series won't suffer for coverage in October. Hey, I know some folks who hate basketball. Imagine what they've had to go through for the past two months with Shaq Saturation. Let every sport have its big event. Look at the big picture -- in 10 days the NBA and CWS will be over, and the U.S. Open already has passed. Then we'll be going through a "slow period" of sorts with only baseball, the World Cup and maybe Wimbledon fighting for attention. The Marlins will be back on the front soon enough. Thanks for writing, Jeff Shain Miami Herald
