July 7, 200620 yr We all know Reggie doesnt belong, but it's ridiculous to see these threads everyday. It's not like he isnt trying his hardest. He is probably still going to keep getting looks because we really arent making a run for the wild card this year(barring another June like run). Now if they would start Borchard in CF everyday for a few weeks, that would be nice.

July 7, 200620 yr I think CF should be given to Amezaga/Ross like a platoon..Those two guys DESERVE to play, they show us how much they love the game, each and every day.
July 7, 200620 yr Really, as a club our win/loss situation comes down to whether our starting pitchers are able to go 6+ innings on a regular basis. When they do, we win a bunch of games, when they don't and the bullpen gets overextended, we lose a bunch. Pretty simple really. It hard to agrue with the stats and theres a BIG difference Its coincidence, mainly. Yes Reggie's production has not been very good, but the whole idea that the play of our CF is the sole deciding factor in whether the whole team wins or loses, is absurd. He simply isn't able to consistently lose games by himself over such a large sample size as the OP suggests. Whats going on here is common in fandom. Its more palatable for fans to identify a scape goat or two and blame them for the problems of their team, then to accept that there are wider issues affecting numerous players on the squad. The fans can then comfort themselves by thinking that if the team just dumped one particular guy they'd win their games, make the playoffs, cure cancer, etc. It happens in all sports, all the time, and in a way its understandable; it is though utterly incorrect. I think it can make a difference. Having a black hole (7-8-9) can be very devastating. See: Marlins (2004) And Reggie is typically right at the middle of it. Fortunately for Reggie, pretty much everyone in the lineup has undergone prolonged slumps with the exception of Uggla and Cabrera. So everyone else (except Uggla and Cabrera) has undergone prolonged slumps, but its only Reggie's performance that is causing the losses? Why can't people see that when our starting pitching is good we tend to win, and when its bad, we lose. When we run 2-3 bad starts together, suddenly our bullpen becomes stretched and its performance drops. Those are the crucial factors (along with the mental/defense errors being made at times by ALL of the rookies, not just Reggie) when it comes to us winning and losing ballgames. Don't get me wrong, we are getting poor production out of the CF position this year. What gets me is that people see this as the primary cause of our sub .500 record when its really just one factor amongst many, and one factor that pales in importance next to consistent starting pitching.

Please explain how Amezaga/Ross show us they love the game more than Abercrombie. I've got to watch out for that. I've never been able to tell when players love or hate the game. Maybe that's why Beinfest does so well....maybe he can tell when a player hates the game...or he's able to measure their love like you.
July 7, 200620 yr We should start a poll. Can someone give me 3 other former marlins players that you think should give Reggie good competition on "who suck the most" thread? I'm serious. Charles Johnson in 1996 Luis Castillo in 1998 Greg Zaun in 1998 Chuck Carr in 1995 Alex Gonzalez in 2000 (might be the worst of all time) Eric Owens in 2001 Charles Johnson in 2002 Mike Lowell in 2003 Those are the ones I could argue have been at least as bad, and in A-Gon's case in 2000, far, far worse.(based mostly on OPS).

Well said. Reggie's play isn't a determining factor like the stats wiz wants us to believe. Stats can be twisted around and used any way you want them to. Take last night as a great example. Top of the 9th, score tied, Reggie standing on 3B with no outs. Dosen't matter how he got there. And he is still there after the next 3 outs. Now according to the stats wiz he was in the game for more than two innings and we lost, there for it is his fault. Plain and simple. He is what we have right now. Freddy is limping. Cody is limping. Etc... Reggie is there and will stay there for now. We won't be buyers this year. Deal with it. Next year expect some competition for CF unless it all clicks for Reggie in the second half of the season. I kinda doubt that happens tho.

I don't like the idea of this thread but I believe you got alot of these years wrong. Didn't CJ win a GG in '96? Castillo in '97 would be a better example of him. Lost his job, sent down, enter Craig Counsel from the Rockies AAA team. Castillo didn't return until August of '98 due to the HPB injury to Counsel. CJ in '02 was a disappointment because everyone expected him to be the same player that had a career year with the White Sox the previous year. No one wanted to acknowledge that he was a career .250something hitter. Want a catcher on that list?? Try Castro. Gonzo worst of all time in "00?? I would say anytime Josh Booty took the field.
July 7, 200620 yr Should have hit a homer and drove himself in instead of a triple. He didn't get a triple. He had a poor bunt that was thrown away into a 3 base error. He did however have an RBI single. He actually got it down (I was at work and didn't see it). I've watched at least three times where he got the bunt sign and couldn't even get it down. That's where Alfredo excels. I think Olivo should play every day and Alfredo should play left or right with Hermida in center. That should be our lineup/defensive alignment. Give Reggie some time in AA/AAA to learn how to adjust to a pitcher after the 1st plate appearance. He just doesn't get it.
July 7, 200620 yr Author When players like Reggie get a lot of playing time where they end up hurting you the most is in that they consistently don't do anything to help you win games and that prevents you from winning games. It's pretty simple.. if no player does anything to help you win a game (ala Reggie) then you're not going to win the game.
July 7, 200620 yr Monday's loss was ovbiously Reggie's fault. Just ask rferry. Piss off Whats going on here is common in fandom. July 7, 200620 yr Your obviously forgetting about that shot he hit in Cincy. One lucky home run doesnt mean anything :lol This makes me laugh everytime I hear it even though I know your being sarcastic. At least your catching the sarcasm. :lol

One lucky home run doesnt mean anything :lol This makes me laugh everytime I hear it even though I know your being sarcastic. At least your catching the sarcasm. :lol I was on that one. Mrs. Abercrombie might start adding "that shot in DC" as well. Or how about that strikeout/popup with the bases juiced. Oh yeah that applies to Treanor as well. Just rambling...

Most of the seasons listed are far better than Reggie's performance or not comparable. (injury years or before the player was a full-time Marlin) and some of those seasons were by much younger ballplayers. My big complaint with Reggie is that there is no potential any longer, what we see is as good as it is going to be. If Hanley was having the same type of season, I'd be all for letting him work some more in AAA to get it together. Reggie needs to be replaced and released.
July 7, 200620 yr I blame Willingham. Our hot streak started when he went on the DL and abruptly fizzled out when he came back. The guy has some bad mojo going on! :whistle
July 8, 200620 yr Don't forget there is the "player of the game". So might as well add "loser of the game" too as well.
July 8, 200620 yr Didn't Reggie Hit like .290 in May? .272/.350/.435 yea but dont use stats to show he actually had a half way decent month.... you can distort stats to make them say what you want :hat

I was the one that said you can twist stats around to show whatever you want And then I showed how the stats that started this topic did just exactly that. Fantasy players do that alot. They read so deeply into stats and find out of the norm stats to rely on that they tend to twist and turn them into "proving" whatever it is they want to believe and then try to make everyone think they are some kind of numbers genius. Makes me wonder why there are ever losers in fantasy sports. If you want to show what he did in May is twisting the stats to prove a point then please feel free to do so. Reggie had a good month in May. I don't see how those stats can be twisted around but feel free to explain it your way. Then show how Hanley didn't have a bad June where he hit a whopping .190. This could be life changing.
July 8, 200620 yr reggie is 26 i think , at this point i cant see why sending him down to the minors will help him much he will be 30 before /if he ever learns to hit , give him this year if he cant turn it around release him.
