Miguel Cabrera: Speed Demon

Featured Replies

Believe it or not, Miguel Cabrera went into the All-Star break with 7 stolen bases. This is more stolen bases than he was able to amass in the previous three seasons combined (6 total). How many stolen bases do you think Miguel will finish with at the end of the season?

Cab's no "speed demon" by any means :p , but he is a pretty heads-up baserunner.

He'll get a couple more before the season ends, hopefully.

Unfortunately for Miguel, other teams have started to take note of the fact that he is being aggresive on the basepaths. He had been working with the element of surprise but thats out the window now.

Good point; which is why I think he'll get just a couple more and not match his 1st half total.

I think he might match his first half total. Especially since most of the times he s gotten a stolen base, hes already almost to second by the time the ball gets to the catcher. All this due to a great maturation in his base running this year.

He doesn't "steal" per se but takes advantage of teams not watching him closely like Sheffield did.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him equal his first half totals, so I think he'll end up with around 13 steals. That stealing percentage will still be awful.

i dont' think he'll have as many SB's in the second half...i think he'll end up at 11 or 12. i'd be very surprised if he had more than that.

That's a tough call. I was undecided here between 13 or 14. I think he's maturing as a baserunner, as mentioned, which should help add to his total. On the other hand, he's being watched more closely now, also as noted. IMHO it's probably going to come down to the last game or 2. And since Cabs has shown his learning curve is far better than most...he's a superstar....I'm going to have to say that he learns to read pitchers and situations better and in the end go with 14. So, after some very deep thought it's between 13-16 for me for this year. It will be more interesting to watch in future years, as he matures further, and maybe loses a pound or 2. He may one day be a 30-30 guy. I wouldn't be surprised at anyhing he does in his career over the next 10 years.

I think he'll get to 11 or 12.

I think he gets around 14-15 just because of the aggressive style of Joe Girardi's running game. I think he will pick his spots and steal some bases in the second half of the season.

30-30?

Are you serious?

20-20 is pushing it.

Like I said....he's proven he's got a fast learning curve. And who knows what can happen if he loses a few pounds. And I'm also giving him 10 years to do it. I wouldn't be surprised. If he can steal 14 this year, then imagine how he can do if he loses a few pounds and devotes more time and energy into learning the art of stealing. He's that special kind of player. Once he maxes out as a 40-50 HR, 120 RBI, .340 hitter....if he stays focused I think he's got the ability to apply his skills in other areas, like defense and baserunning.

It's apparent he inherited his base stealing abilities from our former 3rd baseman, Mike Lowell- the original speed demon.

Losing pounds will not make you that much faster...and to steal 30 bases in one year, even 20 you need pretty good speed
