July 31, 200620 yr Currently tied for 1st in HR's once more for the marlins. Is he our top rookie of the year canidate still folks?
July 31, 200620 yr We have a lot of ROTY candidates... Uggla is one of them :thumbup . Johnson, Olsen, Nolasco, Uggla and maybe Hanley.
July 31, 200620 yr I'd say Johnson is our top ROTY eligable player. Not taking anything away from Dan, though.
July 31, 200620 yr I think Dan still takes the price (if the award was given today) He is putting sick offensive numbers for a 2b
July 31, 200620 yr Josh Johnson continues to make a strong move but Uggla is right behind him. Funny that Miguel takes the lead early in the ballgame but Uggla comes back right during the end to tie him.
July 31, 200620 yr 1. Johnson 2. Uggla 3. Olsen 4. Nolasco 5. Jacobs 6. Ramirez Leading the NL in ERA makes you ROY by a landslide
July 31, 200620 yr Check out my .sig for my view on who the Marlins top ROY candidate is. Unfortunately, I could see the Marlins splitting the vote between JJ, Uggla, Olsen, Jacobs and Nolasco and then Prince Fielder ending up on top as a result when all is said and done.
July 31, 200620 yr Uggla will be the ROY. JJ hasn't been as impressive his last couple of starts, and I think he'll start to slow down. Uggla will hopefully keep hitting and do an average job defensively.
July 31, 200620 yr If the award was given today, I think it's gotta be Johnson, although what Dan Uggla is doing is incredible (especially for a rule V draft pick). But when you're a rookie and leading the league in ERA, you're definately on top of people's list. However, there is still 2 months left in the season so it still is a toss-up.
July 31, 200620 yr I think it goes to a positional player as compared to a pitcher - all things being equal. So, Uggla gets the nod. He has been terrific. ESPN projects Uggla's numbers as follows: .295 Avg.; 25 HRs, 97 RBIs, 106 Runs. If Uggla meets these projected numbers, he wins. Those are amazing numbers for anyone, but especially a rule 5-pickup at 2B. That would be (is) one of the best stories in baseball.
July 31, 200620 yr You're right ramp, but the question was who was the top candidate among our players.
July 31, 200620 yr You're right ramp, but the question was who was the top candidate among our players. yea, I cant read
July 31, 200620 yr I am of the opinion that you just give the 2006 ROY award to the entire Marlins team. :mischief
August 1, 200620 yr When is the last time a .260 hitter won rookie of the year? I agree hanley shouldn't be on the short list but Crosby won AL ROY in '04 batting .239, fyi.
August 1, 200620 yr If all the rookies continue doing what they've done so far (a big if) the winner will be either JJ or Andre Ethier.
August 1, 200620 yr Prince Fielder .288, 19 HR, 55 RBI (.348 OBP/ .503 SLG) 23 2Bs Mike Jacobs .290, 14 HR, 54 RBI (.354 OBP/ .520 SLG) 30 2Bs Jacobs has just about as good as numbers as Fielder despite Fielder playing in a smaller park. Jacobs has really been under the radar this year- just needs some of thsoe doubles to become homers. Other Candidates...... Josh Willingham .260, 15 HR, 53 RBI (.337 OBP/ .469 SLG) 18 2Bs Hanley Ramirez .266, 9 HR, 32 RBI (.336 OBP/ .420 SLG) 24 2Bs (5 3Bs and 30 SBs) Dan Uggla .295, 16 HR, 61 RBI (.353 OBP/ .503 SLG) 20 2Bs, 5 3Bs Ryan Zimmerman .286, 13 HR, 69 RBI (.351 OBP/ .467 SLG) 31 2Bs Josh Barfield .296, 7 HR, 35 RBI (.335 OBP/ .427 SLG) 20 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 16 SBs Edwin Encarnacion .286, 7 HR, 43 RBI (.378 OBP/ .488 SLG) 21 2Bs Russell Martin .298, 5 HR, 44 RBI (.362 OBP/ .462 SLG) 18 2Bs Andre Ethier .345, 10 HR, 40 RBI (.393 OBP/ .559 SLG) 18 2Bs Conor Jackson .271, 10 HR, 57 RBI (.359 OBP/ .425 SLG) 17 2Bs Here are some of the good young hitters.....right now Josh Johnson has to be #1 with Ethier and Prince Fielder close 2nd and 3rd......Olsen and Nolasco have a chance too....long race to go.
August 1, 200620 yr When was Ethier called up? So I assume he was called up in May...I think if he plays the rest of the season and keeps up this pace, he'd get it. But two more months is a lot for a rookie to sustain those numbers!
August 1, 200620 yr When was Ethier called up? So I assume he was called up in May...I think if he plays the rest of the season and keeps up this pace, he'd get it. But two more months is a lot for a rookie to sustain those numbers! If JJ and Ethier both keep it up either one could win it. One would have a 2.52 ERA in about 185 innings and the other a .345 AVG in about 480 PAs. They would both deserve it.
August 1, 200620 yr I think Johnson needs to get to 15 wins to get the award. If not I think it will go to either to Jacobs, Zimmerman or Either IMO I really see Jacobs finishing with a .300avg with 50 2bs, 25 hr and 90 RBI. I see a Wild Card run that Jacobs becomes a big name the way that Ryan Howard became a big name last year.
Thank You for posting potential candidate with their stats. . . don't see why Fielder would be a better choice than Uggla? Maybe I'm not reading the numbers right
August 1, 200620 yr if a marlin wins I'll be happy. I'd love to see Uggla win it, after all those years in the minors.
August 1, 200620 yr Uggla will be the ROY. JJ hasn't been as impressive his last couple of starts, and I think he'll start to slow down. Uggla will hopefully keep hitting and do an average job defensively. JJ hasn't been that impressive ...he just been freakin awesome!
