It's taken until the 109th game of the season, but now the Marlins finally will face the Dodgers. The Dodgers, Brewers and Diamondbacks are the only teams in the National League the Marlins have yet to face. That's about to change, with Los Angeles in town for three games.

 

For the season, the Marlins are 9-9 against the NL West. A year ago, Florida took five of seven from Los Angeles, but that was a completely different team.

 

The Marlins enter the weekend series inspired after taking two of three from the Mets.

 

On Friday night, Florida sends rookie Anibal Sanchez to the mound in search of his fifth victory. After winning his first four big-league decisions, Sanchez was hit hard by the Phillies in his last start.

 

Sanchez, in six career starts, has an ERA of 3.25. In his lone relief appearance, he gave up seven runs in 4 1/3 innings.

 

At home, Sanchez is 2-0 with a 3.44 ERA.

 

The Dodgers counter with Derek Lowe.

 

Lowe is 0-2 with a 9.72 ERA for his career at Dolphin Stadium. Lifetime against the Marlins, Lowe is 3-2 with a 5.79 ERA.

FLA: RHP Anibal Sanchez (4-1, 4.46 ERA)

Brilliant over a three-start stretch, Sanchez hit a roadblock in his last outing, a loss at Philadelphia. The 22-year-old rookie allowed a career-high eight runs in 4 1/3 innings. Before that, he had surrendered one run in 21 innings over three starts. Now in six starts, the Venezuelan native is 4-1 with a 3.25 ERA. He has made one relief appearance, allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings on July 1 against Boston.

 

LAD: RHP Derek Lowe (8-7, 4.29 ERA)

Lowe's first win in almost a month was no thing of beauty, as he allowed the last-place Nationals four runs in the first two innings. But he rebounded with three scoreless innings after that and benefitted from enough offensive support for the victory. He struck out eight in five innings, but allowed seven hits.

 

Player to watch

Dodgers second baseman Julio Lugo has gotten a good look at the Marlins this season. Before being traded to Los Angeles, Lugo faced Florida six times while with Tampa Bay. In those meetings, he went 9-for-23 (.391) with one home run and three doubles. Lugo had a terrific series at Dolphin Stadium (June 26-28). In those three games, he was 7-for-11 (.636) with a homer and two doubles.
