OK, so I use eBay quite frequently and only twice have I been given a "second chance offer."

 

The first one, I declined, the second one (which is still posed to me) is simply too good of a deal for me to just pass up. However, both e-mail exchanges (from the first and second) are almost identical and require a Western Union money transfer.

 

Here's why I'm hesitant:

 

I ask to use paypal but the guy declines eventhough the auction was for immediate payment with paypal, saying he now requires a Western Union money transfer. Secondly, I was the runner up bidder in a reserve price auction. Plus, the whole process is being done through e-mail and not on the eBay site eventhough I have received e-mails from eBay itself.

 

Am I wrong in thinking that someone's trying to scam me? Has anyone done this before? Any help would be appreciated as losing this item at this price really could haunt me if it's legit.

It does sound like someone is trying to scam you or scam ebay and get around giving up part of his proceeds to ebay. I could be careful there dude. My policy is better safe then sorry. If they wont take paypal or another type of trackable money order system (stormpay for example, except they are thieves so be careful of them) I wouldnt do it.

I've always liked using Paypal for E-bay auctions I just feel more safe on things. The one time I had to use a money order, I hated it.

 

Unless you REALLY want this item and the guy's feedback is flawless and speaks for itself, I would not go after it.

 

Paypal is the most trusted way to pay on E-bay.

See the gist of it is that I'm not even sure I'm talking to the guy hence the scam fear.

 

His record is outstanding.

Dude, I wouldnt send off thousands of dollars when the guy states right there his prefered payment method and all.

 

Amazing fantasy 15 is pretty sweet though, but it's value is alot higher then just 2k, it looks like that issue isnt in that great of shape.

 

I think whomever it is, is trying to screw you.

Creases in the top right and top left corners of older comics are not uncommon. Looks pretty good to me.

 

That being said, I would ONLY bid on something like this (and I wouldn't bid on something like this, it's too expensive) if I was buying it in-store or from a trusted auction where you can view it.

I personally think you could get it from Sotheby's (hope I spelled that right) or a REALLY good comic shop in your area (I know one in this area that would have something like that if I was interested). This doesn't seem like an ebay purchase to me and I buy comic collections off ebay quite frequently.

 

Quick question: are you just going to hang this up? Or are you going to peruse it? Because, let's say for some crazy reason you're buying it for reading purposes... You could get the same issue on DVD-Rom for 40 bucks along with every other Amazing Spider-Man issue for 40 bucks. If you're getting it for a pricey wall-ornament then more power to you.

Within eBay - you're protected; outside eBay - you're on your own.

 

Offer the seller to complete the transaction via PayPal or through eBay's "second chance" links. It's not an unreasonable request on your part. If seller refuses, then respectfully decline.

These are collectors' items, dude. Who are you to chastise the way another man spends his dough? Lay off.

 

Personally, I would not do it. The reserve isn't met. So he could take your money and then ask for more before sending the comic. Then your good deal goes to waste. Even if it is a Power Seller, I wouldn't do it.

i'm 100% certain that it's a scam. not 99%, but 100%. no seller is going to pass up a large sale simply because he prefers using western union over a paypal funds transfer.

 

my dad (who's dumb as sh*t when it comes to the internet) got scammed by some seller who communicated with him through email asking for outside payment.

 

and since you're not certain it's the guy, send him a message through ebay asking him why he's emailing you things that don't make sense.

I'm with Shaq on this. This is 100% scam.

 

Google "ebay western union" and you will see about 1000 links about fraud. I can't find it right now, but there's even a section in EBay's community information warning people about Western Union frauds.

 

Don't do it, man. You will regret it.

WOW I wish I had comic books to sell. Thats allot of money for something you'll never open. Anyway no way should you buy it. What good reason could they possibably have for not wanting to use paypal? Tell them you'll fly there and pick it up if they pay for half the flight if they refuse paypal.
