August 11, 200620 yr Alright folks... I am sure we have all heard about this amazing program that MLB is doing currently. We are going to decide on this board who is the hometown hero for all 30 MLB teams. I'd love for some amazing discussion on not only ours but every team's, ours will be here, the other 29 teams obviously in the MLB forum. So without further ado... The Florida Marlins Hometown Hero Nominees: Josh Beckett Luis Castillo Jeff Conine Robb Nen Dontrelle Willis Make your choice, but also explain your reasoning, this should be fun, lets make it fun. Try to keep it serious and put some meat behind your selections, this is meant to be a fun debate, so let's make it one.
August 11, 200620 yr How anyone can argue against Mr. Marlin is silly. (Except for Luis Castillo) I'm suprised Robb Nenn is on that list over a player like Mike Lowell, who was Mr. Marlin Ver. 2.0.
August 11, 200620 yr How anyone can argue against Mr. Marlin is silly. (Except for Luis Castillo) I'm suprised Robb Nenn is on that list over a player like Mike Lowell, who was Mr. Marlin Ver. 2.0. Some people might not have been fans since recently so you could understand why one would not vote for Conine. A little bit of something for everyone on that list. I have followed his whole career and love what he brought to the Marlins. I give my vote to Niner.
August 11, 200620 yr Castillo. 10 years of service in Florida, took a pay cut to stay with us, and was a key factor in our World Series run.
August 11, 200620 yr This is an easy decision but I like Castillo and Willis a lot also. Niner should take it. No clue why Robb Nen is on there....I think Alex Gonzalez, Cliff Floyd, or Derek Lee should be over him.
August 11, 200620 yr Jeff Conine (Castillo is a close second). I'm sure many members here would choose Castillo over Conine because he has played in more games, but Jeff is the right choice for those old enough to remember the teal hat days. Conine went 4-4 in the opener and was the face of the franchise along with Gary Sheffield for several years. Castillo was always overshadowed by players like Wilson, Lowell, and Floyd during the years between the championships. While both players were members of both World Series squads, Conine's presence was much greater felt during the 1997 since Counsell became the everyday starter. Conine almost singlehandedly brough the Marlins to the playoffs in 2003 during his prodigal return. Also don't forget that Conine brought home the 1995 All Star Game MVP award. prodigal, psshhhh
August 11, 200620 yr Luis, he was a guy prepared to stay here his entire career, it was his home. Conine is close, but after the offseason he went down a little in my estimations.
August 11, 200620 yr Conine is close, but after the offseason he went down a little in my estimations. Hey, he left for a winner. No matter they're at .443 and we're at .465.
August 11, 200620 yr Being a Giants fan, I had to go with Nen (which is why I think people should only be allowed to vote for one team)
