"The dog days are officially here. If you are a fan of a team that is out of contention, it takes serious commitment to keep watching them night after night. The other day, about five minutes into a Marlins-Nationals game, I realized it was time to shake myself out of my nightly routine of tuning into the Fish game first at 7:05 p.m. "Why the heck am I watching this?" I blurted out to nobody in particular. There are meaningful games being played and this wasn't one of them.

 

I'll still check in on Miguel Cabrera and the Fish's fab freshmen every once in a while, but it's time to start focusing on the playoff races, which in this day and age usually means the wild-card derbies in each league. We've seen enough of these teams by now to have a pretty good idea of how this will shape up. "

Hmm, 4 1/2 back, anything can happen at this point. We need a really hot streak right now and we can prove that dude wrong.

I'm not so sure. With MLB testing for amphetamines this season ("greenies"), I look to the young Marlins to have a stronger finish than some older teams. We'll see, but I think this writer is selling the Marlins short.

i just think its weird that a team that's 4.5 games out is not "meaningful", but a game with 2.5 is expected to win it by this guy.

even though our records would be the same, I think we are still behind Milwaukee and possibly SF

personally...i dont care if we get the wild card or not...this season was about getting better, which we did in leaps and bounds and no matter what happens the rest of the year, we will be a force to be reckoned with and will be one of talks of the town come april 07...which is hell of alot better than all the experts had us finishing...and personally...there is nothing better than jeff brantley and steve phillips looking like a moron( which isnt that tough)

I don't see us making the playoffs, I'd love to see us make it though. It's gonna be tough. We're gonna have to play well, and not loose ground by losing a series or getting swept. that'd be incredible if we won the WC. if we come near the WC, there should be no reason girardi doesn't win manager of the year
