Shawn Green traded to Mets

Shawn Green's career with the Diamondbacks appears to have come to an end.

A baseball source told MLB.com that the veteran outfielder was dealt along with cash considerations to the Mets on Tuesday in exchange for a Minor League player. Green, the source said, agreed to waive his no-trade clause and the deal is now in the hands of the Commissioner's office, which has to approve it because of the money involved.

Green arrived at AT&T Park on Tuesday afternoon and was seen on the field hugging teammate Craig Counsell and a Diamondbacks coach.

It is not known exactly how much money will change hands in the deal, or who the Minor Leaguer is. Green is set to make $9.5 million next year with a club option for the 2008 season at $10 million. If the option is not exercised, Green would receive a $2 million buyout.

Green is hitting .283 with 11 homers and 51 RBIs this season. The D-Backs had been looking to move him to give playing time to rookie Carlos Quentin, who has been impressive since having his contract purchased from Triple-A Tucson last month.

Yes, good deal for the mets unless we end up playing most of the salaries. The Mets get a #6 hitter and a left baty as insurance for right.. I love our lineup right now.

Reyes Swight

LoDuca Righty

Beltran Switch

Delgado Lefty

Wright Righty

Green Lefty

Valentin Switch

Chavez Left

And imagine if we can get Floyd healthy before the playoffs start? Floyd would be hitting 7th/8th. And our bench gets stronger with Chavey coming off of the bench.

Shows you how little faith they have in Floyd, Chavez or Milledge

Floyd plays left, his injury really had minimal impact on the trade. Chavez is a nice player but he's more useful coming off the bench. Milledge just isn't ready -- he's been hitting better lately though.

Floyd has been hurt a little too much for the Mets taste, Chavez is playing over his ability and Milledge, like you said, looks lost out there.

Nomination for "Understatement of the Week" Award.

I was watching one game where he let a ball roll out of the webbing of his glove because he forgot to close his glove. Then, his very next opportunity, he runs three steps in on a ball that ends up 60 feet behind him. At some point, he also lost a ball in the transfer and allowed a runner to advance an extra base.

It was TERRIBLE. Say what you want, but Shawn Green is a MAJOR upgrade.

Huh? Floyd plays Left Field :banghead . Omar already said yesterday on MLB.com that Floyd is going to start rehabbing soon, his sister just passed for god sakes..

The fact that they are trying to get Moises Alou says a bit about how little faith they have in Floyd though.
