Maybe somebody should mae a pennant race thread so we don't have a thread like this everyday. Whoever does it should keep the standings updated.

Assuming Colorado and SF hold on to win today, here are the standings:

Cincy ---

SD 0.5 GB

PHI 1 GB

SF 2 GB

AZ 3 GB (in progress vs. LA)

FLA 3 GB

I bet Lohse comes back down to Earth this game!

Good call so far. :thumbup

Plain and simple, Lohse is just not a very good pitcher.

He "called" that after it was 3-0.

That is a beautiful sight. Bet the Phillies wish they had Abreu back right about now.

Since the Abreu trade the Phillies are 16-9.

The Phillies are playing the best ball they've played since their May hotstreak, Delucci is having just a good a year as Abreu, who was slumping in Philly, and we unloaded tons of cash.

I'm happier with that deal, than I was when it was first announced.

Hell, the Phillies after New York have a scheduled lined up with an array of teams under 500.

True, but I believe that is just variance. That trade did not help the Phillies. It was a salary dump.

That and I believe Abreu has become a bad apple in that clubhouse. Gillick did that move and in any other year would be out of it but doing it this year has worked out great because of how bad the NL is this year and they are still very much in contention. One eye on today, one eye on the future.

Want to play a little "did you know" ?

Did you know Ivan Rodriguez was the most hated man in the Marlins clubhouse and a "bad apple" in 2003 ?

Did it make a lick of difference ? Of course not, because chemistry doesn't mean anything in baseball.

So why have the Phillies improved without him on their team?

With their slew of trades it has gotten Dellucci more playing time and it has also changed the way the team plays and their base stealing has gotten better which has helped their recent play.
