September 2, 200619 yr Ricky Nolasco, who is 0-2 with a 10.50 ERA in his past three starts, will miss his next scheduled start Monday against the Diamondbacks. Brian Moehler will replace Nolasco in the rotation. Moehler has gone 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in eight relief appearances since his last start. Nolasco will likely reclaim his starting job later in the week. Source: Miami Herald
September 2, 200619 yr I can't say it's a shock. Maybe he needs the day off. I hope Moehler comes in ready, and that the pen is well rested enough to take it from the 7th on, since Moe hasn't worked that long in a while.
September 2, 200619 yr Moles has pitched well, been a real pro and deserves it. Ricky deserves a rest, take a little pressure off and then be there to hopefully show us his good stuff.
September 2, 200619 yr If we are serious on this WC race giving some rest to our starters seems like a good decision to me.
September 2, 200619 yr Look like we are sending the white flag nice and early on Monday game. All we could do for Moehler is :pray :
September 2, 200619 yr Look like we are sending the white flag nice and early on Monday game. All we could do for Moehler is :pray : No, we are not. He hasn't been pitching well for the last couple of games that's why he is getting the day off.
September 2, 200619 yr Look like we are sending the white flag nice and early on Monday game. All we could do for Moehler is :pray : What are you talking about? Nolasco has been pitching batting practice for awhile now. I'm relieved that he isn't starting. It has nothing to do with his injury...he just hasn't been pitching well. I agree he was bad in his last 2 starts. But what about the 7 starts before the last 2? He went into the 7th in 5 of the 7 and pitched at least 6 innings in 6 of the 7 and allowed more than 3 ER only in 1 of the 7. Moehler is a bum and has the record to prove it. Every now and then he pitches well so he may pitch well this time around but unless Ricky is injured (as some have suggested) then a Brian Moehler should not take his spot because of 2 bad starts.

September 2, 200619 yr You gotta admit the chances of winning with your starting pitcher with an ERA over 6.00 are low.

Every now and then he pitches well so he may pitch well this time around but unless Ricky is injured (as some have suggested) then a Brian Moehler should not take his spot because of 2 bad starts. First of all, a long standing hatred of Moe does not make him a bum in every one's eyes. His last 9 relief appearances have him at something like 23.2 IPs with around a 3.50 ERA. I'll take a bum like that any day. I don't know if Ricky is hurt or not. What I have noticed, and more so his last couple starts, is that he has been slow to adjust to the hitters after he has gone around once in the line up. Not adjusting to the adjustments. Also an error seems to take him out of his game. I kinda like Ricky although I would like him better as a pen guy, like in middle relief, but he needs to work a little on his concentration. A guy that pitches like he does can not afford any lapse in concentration at this level. Moe has more than earned a start if Ricky is to be sat down for a game.
September 2, 200619 yr Nolasco needed a break hopefully it's 2 starts...He will be back better than ever
September 3, 200619 yr Nolasco needed a break hopefully it's 2 starts...He will be back better than ever He needs to get that leg healed. It could lead to arm problems otherwise. And it may either be my imagination that he isn't adjusting to the batters or it could be the leg problem is the reason for his non-adjustments.

September 3, 200619 yr Moehler is usually hit or miss. Hopefully it works out. Usually miss as a starter.
September 3, 200619 yr Injury sidelines Nolasco indefinitely By Joe Capozzi Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Sunday, September 03, 2006 MILWAUKEE- ? The Marlins will have to continue their drive for a play-off spot without rookie right-hander Ricky Nolasco. Nolasco, the first Marlins starter to reach double-digit wins, will miss at least one start and maybe more because of soreness behind his right knee. Veteran right-hander Brian Moehler will make Nolasco's next scheduled start, Monday at Dolphin Stadium against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Team trainers "don't think it's anything serious, just something that might need a little more time to heal," said Nolasco, who said the sore spot was "in the hamstring area behind my right knee." Nolasco (11-9, 4.75) allowed a combined 12 runs (11 earned) and did not get out of the fifth inning in his past outings against Milwaukee and St. Louis. "He said he was healthy when he went out there (Aug. 30)," manager Joe Girardi said. "We've got to make sure he is healthy because we don't want him to hurt anything else." Girardi said Nolasco will not be available to pitch out of the bullpen, either. Moehler's start Monday will be his first since July 30, when he appeared in a doubleheader at Philadelphia. In eight relief appearances since then, he is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA. Source -- http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...notes_0903.html
September 3, 200619 yr Crud. Petit? Pinto? I'd rather see those guys in a long-term rotation situation (read: 2 or more starts) over Moehler, but that's just me.
September 3, 200619 yr Crud. Petit? Pinto? I'd rather see those guys in a long-term rotation situation over Moehler, but that's just me. Ideally I'd like to see Pinto get a shot, but he has proven himself to be too valuable out of the bullpen. If we are going to make a run at the Wild Card, we need Pinto to keep doing what he is doing lately as a reliever.
September 3, 200619 yr Frankly (knock on wood), I think we've been pretty lucky at keeping our starting pitchers healthy this season, and it sounds as if his injury is not season-ending, which in itself is a good thing.

Very much so. I'd say that Girardi's "babying" of the young guys to start the year is probably the reason; yet that is almost completely ignored by the critics.
