Anyone still want to trade Olsen for Gathright

Madman you're making me wet my pants dude :lol

Are you unable to take something for what it is? I said I'd do it, but not that it made sense, and that I'd only do it because I'm extremely biased in this situation.

Humor, right?

:lol

Thats like the king of pot meet kettles right there.. if you took that advice, gathright probably wouldn't be your favorite player

Best athlete in the game, with his amazing sixty and ability to jump cars. He's struggled this year, and still hasn't yet learned to be a great basestealer despite his speed. I know exactly what he brings to the table.

you are a joke. gathwright is a bust. period. he cant hit, cant really play defense and cant run the bases well.

BUST.

sigh... you guys are ridiculous right now

its one thing to be biased by your favorite player. its another to be a total idiot and want to pick up your favorite player to screw your favorite team.

name on the front, not the back.

Why did this have to get bumped??? SO pointless.....people say things that are wrong all the time...thus the whole Online board concept.....

I said that it wasn't smart and didn't make sense. I said only that I'd personally like to see it. Are you mentally challenged? All that are arguing against me are arguing about nothing.

You'd personally love to see us trade away one of our top starters for a bust.

Are you even making a point?

Also, if you're a bust at age 25 without yet finishing a full major league season, then there are a whole lot of awesome busts in the mlb today.

ya the point being that you are clueless.

Remind me when Gathright learns how to hit a baseball at this level. Your love for him reminds me of the love this board had for Abraham Nunez a few years back. The common link, they both ended up with Kansas City and both will probably never really be heard from again.

ya the point being that you are clueless.

Real f***ing Einstein right here.

But hey, once you're batting 9th for the Royals, things can really only get better.

Ok I'm done.

Its one thing to say you would love to see him get a shot here. Its another thing to say you want to trade one of our top 3 starters for him.

You opened yourself to this when you made that statement.

I feel like I'm debating with third graders. I can say something and admit that it's dumb, and some of you just want to argue with me that it's dumb.

Why would I need to read closer? All I see is Olsen for Gathright in the same sentence.

Because I then explained why I said what I said. I stated that it did not make baseball sense and was only a result of personal bias. Did I say it would be best for the Marlins? Did I said it made sense? No. It even came with a disclaimer because of how little sense it would make if taken merely for it's first line.

So what u r saying is that you have a mancrush on Gathright?

As much as you have one on Renyel Pinto for saying you "like" him in the setup role. Preferring to have a favorite player on your team if you had the chase if having a mancrush? Grow up.

This is in relation to Madman...

...When you totally ignore statistics.

Why is Gathright your favorite player? No ulterior motive for asking, just wondering.

I wouldn't count Pinto amongst my favorate anything...I believe he would make a pretty good middle reliever. Our Bullpen right now is in a bit of dissaray...He may find his role on this team in that capacity. I guess you wanna call it a mancrush...Go ahead!

John Kruk was the worst athlete in the game and he was a career .300 hitter.. What the hell does your 40 time have to do with hitting? Last I checked we already have a fast CF who can't bat his weight. (pick one)

People have different reasons for favorite players.

You run the 60 in baseball, chief.

You're being as dumb as a rock for trying to debate against someone's favorite player. If that player is their favorite, he just is.

Considering your favorite Marlins are Juan Pierre and Hanley Ramirez, it looks like you're kind of biased towards speedy guys. Nothing wrong with that.

I think people understand what you're trying to say, but you put it in a way that you would trade away a stud lefty pitcher for a borderline major leaguer. People become GMs partly because they're able to put personal biases aside.

Gathright wouldn't be a bad guy to take a chance on in the offseason if the price is reasonable, but we'll probably bring in more of a sure thing. That is, if Mr. Loria shells out money for one.

Loria has shelled out the $$ before...just doesnt consistently shell it out.

What I'm confused by Madman81 is not what deals you would or would not make or what skills you think are necessary for a ballplayer, but why Reese, Abercrombie and Gathright after Pierre? Why didn't you follow Pierre to Chicago? Or jump ship to Gathright in Kansas City? Or pick another speedster. You have said in the past that you're not a Marlins fan. You're not from Florida so you don't have some special attachment. And your posts suggest you care more about certain players than the team. But yet you continue to choose Marlins to follow. And based on your level of activity on the boards, I get the impression you aren't consistent contributor to the Cubs, Royals, Devil Rays and every other speedster's boards. Why?

Although he bashes just about every player and manager/coach, madman is in almost every game thread.

It doesn't have to be smart or make sense. It's not a wise baseball move. It would make no sense for the Marlins. Having said that plenty of times, those trying to jump on me are just showing themselves stupid.

My kind of player. I'm a centerfielder who is a fast basestealer, and he's been my favorite since the series I saw him in against Florida in 04 I believe.

Yep. The speedy guys are my kind of ballplayers.

I did say that it makes no sense. Most people have been unable to get over the fact that I realize it's stupid and senseless, but have a biased reason why I would personally like it. By the way, I'm looking into attending Wharton :thumbup

Not true at all. My father and I spent a whole hellload of money on a 5 day, 4 game trip to South Florida solely for Marlins games. Twice in the batter's box and twice in founder's field, I care greatly about this team. I keep tabs on my favorite players from the past, but do not put them above the Marlins. The situation regarding Gathright is not typical and not realistic. I'm a diehard Fish fan. I believe you have merely misjudged my past post from a thread regarding relocation, where I think I said I didn't know if I would continue to follow the team upon relocation, and where I touched upon the fact that I don't have South Florida roots. Side note: Abercrombie is not a favorite player of mine. I believe he has the best tools and ability to help this team in centerfield when compared to the bunch. Wanting Abercrombie over Amezaga - who has actually gotten the job done here in recent games - does not constitute a liking of Abercrombie.

I point out good things and I point out bad things. You miss the good and only notice the bad because everyone will react to good, whereas when I watch a baseball game, I comment on the good and the bad of anyone. I'm not too biased regarding the Marlins to ignore the bad things that occur; that's just not how I watch a gae.

Yes.

I am hot gonna be on ur case anymore Madman if you like to watch Gathright play...you like to watch him play...Enjoy Baseball and enjoy the Marlins! Peace!

Ah. I got the impression that you weren't a fan when you said you wanted to SEE Pierre start in Cincinnati despite him being in an terrible slump. Well, good to know you're a Marlins fan. I have a preference for rangey fielders and patient hitters, but I wouldn't go as far to suggest that they play roles that harm the team's winning. Wyn Nen is my favorite player ever. And right behind him is Fran Chisecurete and his battery mate Owen S. Tatum.
