September 7, 200620 yr Those guys don't seem to be losing much lately, even though the Marlins are playing well.
September 7, 200620 yr Well the good news is they've got a tough roadtrip now, not that we have an easy schedule. We can definetly catch them though.
September 7, 200620 yr actually, I think we should hope that LA sweeps the Padres. But I suppose either or both teams collapsing would be good for us. But yeah, I think with games vs LA, the Cards, and I think even the Reds, they are bound to lose a few.
September 7, 200620 yr Just win tonight and move into sole possession of 2nd place in the Wild Card...then worry about San Diego.
September 7, 200620 yr I'm starting to wonder if they can. The Padres have been having their own "magical" stretch with walk-off home runs, etc.. Peavy's pitching well, too. We need either LA or SD to just completely implode, so that one wins the division, and the other is at .500 and behind us in the wild card.
September 7, 200620 yr If we catch the Padres, I'm going to St. Louis for a playoff game.. no doubt in my mind.
September 7, 200620 yr We also have to hope the Dodgers fall. I'd rather take my chances catching the Padres than the Dodgers, because worst case is letting the west split the division and card (which is what'd happen). As Marlin fans, we want the Dodgers to win as many games in the next week to week and a half as possible, so the Cardinals have something to play for (second best record) and they (the Cards) don't rest starters when San Diego comes to town in the last week of the season. Remember, 2nd best record doesn't play the Mets in the first round.
September 7, 200620 yr I am not sure if you know that the Dodgers are 1 game ahead of the Padres. They are playing 4 games against the Mets in New York. What I have heard recently is that they have been struggling. I want both teams to fall but the way the Padres are playing I dont see them slowing down. I dont care how we get to the Playoffs I just want to get there.
September 7, 200620 yr Marlins are going to have go about 15-8. A very tall task. My gut tells me that San Diego will cool off but its starting to get a little ridiculous with the walk offs, etc. There is no denying that they are as hot as we are right now. Not even the biggest of HOMERS can deny that. You know who you are. What an accomplishment by this team though to even be in the running at this point. It amazes me.

What I have heard recently is that they have been struggling. I want both teams to fall but the way the Padres are playing I dont see them slowing down. So you want us to try to catch the second hottest team in the West, and arguably the more complete team than the streaking Padres? Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooook. :whistle

September 7, 200620 yr We also have to hope the Dodgers fall. I want the Padres being complacent about the wild card, not fighting to win games to win the division
September 7, 200620 yr SD plays SF so that is a win win for us. and they play LAD which is win win. Houston scares me some still because the central sucks
September 7, 200620 yr If we are going to catch them it will happen in the next week or so when they play at SF and LA. If they are still ahead by three games at that point, I dont think we will be able to do it. We can make up half a game on them today however
September 7, 200620 yr As far as who we should hope to lose, geez, I am scoreboard watching but would get a headache trying to overanalyze things. You could question if it is better for the Astros to beat Phila. Of course, on the face, yes, the fleas are even with us and Houston is behind us, so lets hope the team with the better record loses. But, we don't know if the Astros go on a 10 game winning streak and Philad. loses 8 out of 9, so if you guess the future then it would have been better for Houston to lose. So, one could go nuts-we have 10 games with the phillies-nothing means nothing if we don't kick their butts. With that in mind, we do hope Frisco beats Diego all weekend-even though the Giants could go on a winning streak etc etc-SEE, I am going nuts trying to figure it out.
September 7, 200620 yr We also have to hope the Dodgers fall. Either the Padres or Dodgers will cool off. If you guys keep winning, you'll catch one of them (probably the Padres due to that schedule).
September 7, 200620 yr I cleaned the thread up, in case anyone is wondering. You can debate all you want, but BE RESPECTFUL of others. Thanks.

I view it as if we're competing against both of them so I want them both to lose. Step one is to get in. Once you're in then worry about who you play.
