A six-time All-Star, Alomar was the 1990 AL Rookie of the Year. His father is starting his second year as the Mets' third-base coach. February 20, 200719 yr I doubt Sandy at his age performs that much better than Treanor. oh yeah he can ... he might not be able to catch as good as treanor but at least he can hit the ball, and when I say catch as good i dont mean it literally since Sandy can still handle a pitching staff

February 21, 200719 yr At 41 and having not taken on a starter's workload this decade, I doubt Alomar is particularly tempted by playing time. In New York, he'll get to hobnob with veterans, media and his family.

Having a backup catcher who has a good rapport with the pitchers and is sound on defense is all I really care about... so I have no problems with Treanor. Seemed like his bat was coming around a little bit at the end of the season too. Comparing Alomar's hittings stats with Treanors, not really that much of difference.. and when you consider Treanor has handled this staff before.. theres just absolutely no reason to replace Treanor with Sandy, especially when Alomar is 40 and can't throw anybody out.
