March 23, 200718 yr SI is bar-none the worst baseball outlet in the National Media. I still will never forget the issue last season when discussing young pitching and they gave John Maine a page of his own and did not mention a single Marlin pitcher. Or this year in the season preview where the advocate trading a "low level prospect" like Sean West or Chris Volstad for Brian Anderson.
March 23, 200718 yr Mets have 3 in the top 20. Wow. And still wont do anything big this season :thumbup

March 23, 200718 yr in 2001, with jeter on the cover of the baseball preview issue, they said the yankees will win the world series and jeter will have a ring for his thumb. derek jeter is still waiting. but i noticed everyone is picking the mets to do well, but by the way their pitching staff looks, i don't expect much. good hitting and abysmal pitching won't get you far in any race, just ask the rangers. si is lame.
March 23, 200718 yr Which rotation do you prefer? Pedro Martinez Tom Glavine Steve Trachsel Victor Zambrano Brian Bannister Or Tom Glavine Orlando Hernandez John Maine Oliver Perez Mike Pelfrey The Mets were far and away the best team in the national league during the regular season with guys like Jeremi Gonzalez, Jose Lima, Brian Bannister, Dave Williams, Alay Soler getting a good portion of the starts. I don't want to hear how our rotation is that much of a downgrade as it complete bulls***. You see old pitchers and unproven youngsters, I see experienced starters who performed well last year and some very promsing young pitchers.

Actually, not everyone. Most O/U I've seen on the Mets has them at 88.5 Clearly the people who truly get paid for their decisions aren't in love with the staff. (FWIW, though, I'm going to take the over heavily).
March 23, 200718 yr in 2001, with jeter on the cover of the baseball preview issue, they said the yankees will win the world series and jeter will have a ring for his thumb.. You're going to point to that as proof that SI is lame? What were the Yankees - 2 outs away with a 1-run lead in the bottom of the 9th with a HOF Closer on the mound? That's about the weakest argument ever given an ABUNDENCE of lame predictions. How about 2005?s prediction of a Yankees-Brave WS when neither team made it out of the first round? Or, here?s a thought, how about their predicting the AL Champion Tigers to finish 4th in their division last year?? Sorry - still a bit bitter about our 9/11 season... :censored
March 23, 200718 yr I saw Miguel Cabrera at 28 and stopped reading anything else. That's ridiculous. That's not bad for the 3rd best 3B in the game... :mischief

March 24, 200718 yr Well here's why it's so retarded: SI's David Sabino ranked the position players in the major leagues from 1 (the best) to 450 and the pitchers from 1 to 350, based on projections of their statistical production this season. The categories considered for position players were batting average, home runs, RBIs and stolen bases It's like they have WildMarlinMan2003 doing analysis.

Nice try....you would put Joe Borchard right after Carlos Beltran.

March 26, 200718 yr Those are fantasy baseball rankings. I think Miggy should be higher easily. Yeah, these are projected fantasy values. Last year, for example, ARod was better in every offensive category but BA and Wright and Cabs were pretty much on par with Wright having twice as many SB's to Cabs having .02 higher BA. ARod is entering a contract year this year [plus that was his worst offensive year ever] and Wright plays on a team that should score and manufacture more runs [ie. more rbi and r opportunities]. In fantasy leagues, they are both very likely going to be more valuable 3B's than Miggy. I mean, you can nitpick and say maybe he should be 2nd ahead of Wright but there's no question ARod is the best bet at 3B in the game right now as far as fantasy studs go.
