April 7, 200719 yr My thought: Can anyone tell me why we pitched to Ruiz in the bottom of the 2nd with a man on second, two outs, and Moyer on deck? Mitre already had been laboring that inning with Miggy's error and giving up a run. I thought that was a huge error. I know it was early, but the base was open, and Moyer is a terrible hitter, even for a pitcher. Also, even though Moyer rarely walks people, I saw a lack of patience today by the players. They jumped on the first "adequate" pitch they saw, and there were a lot of one-pitch outs. Regardless of Mitre's supposed "movement," he gave up a ton of shots that would've been out of any other ballpark (not counting the shots he did give up). If you take away the first inning, he was hit hard when the Phillies actually made contact. I liked what I saw out of De Aza. His warning track shot was hit very well...he really just missed it. And, when he did get on base, he was a big disruption for Moyer (at least 6 times he threw over). I was suprised at the small amount of Philly fans at the stadium...normally its like 1 out of 5 (1 out of 4 for a Mets game), and I looked like a lot less.

My take on that would be to go after Ruiz so that you could have Moyer lead off the 3rd giving you a chance at having Howard lead off the 4th (e.g. no runners on base) ... but that's no excuse, if that was the thought process, it was thought out too far ahead.

Moyer was doing that to mess with the hitters, and it worked.
April 7, 200719 yr I would have liked to see Olivo try to bulldoze his way home instead of sliding, but damn was he in a running mood yesterday, he even stole second after getting picked off. Impressive.

The situation (runners at the corners, no one out, slow runner at the plate in Boone) dictated that something should/could be "on." With 2 outs, De Aza took a good one way lead once or twice to get a throw, but those initial throws were all situational, not De Aza.

I saw a lot of them. Some were nice and some were morons. There were also a lot of Mets fans who just wanted to watch some baseball.

April 7, 200719 yr I forgot to add: De Aza looked pretty good at the plate. When Olivo was on 2nd with 0 out I thought De Aza would collapse because of the pressure to drive Olivo in. De Aza stayed back and lined one up the middle :thumbup . Oh and that gap shot he hit I totally thought that was in the gap (double). Argh.. He looked good.

The Borchard incident in RF where he looked absolutely foolish (in fact he looked just as bad as Conine did in the game in Arizona as depicted by my sig). While some people here disagree with me, when I saw it live I thought it should have been handled and when seeing the replay tape later that night I became only more certain. 2. The Olivo passed ball gets no excuse. Ordinarily I would not cause a fuss over such a thing but that run DID go on to score where it should have been a strikeout. That is where bad defense hurts you. Should be outs are converted into runs. 3. To a slightly lesser degree, the Hanley Ramirez "statue" play. The ball was sharply hit but appeared to be quite playable. Ramirez was extremely slow at moving toward the ball. He wasn't issued an error because he didn't get a glove on it. That run eventually scored. Like I said, your REALLY reaching there. A passed ball gets no excuse? Some of you need to stop expecting perfection night in and night out :thumbup
