BRADY QUINN

Quinn would be a mighty catch

Quarterback Brady Quinn and the Dolphins could be a perfect match, but it would take a number of wacky scenarios to make that happen.

NEW YORK --

Shortly after meeting within a warm building earlier this month in South Bend, Dolphins coach Cam Cameron looked toward Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn and made a request.

''Let's go throw it around outside,'' Cameron said, suggesting the pair step into the frigid air for a quick workout.

Quinn was puzzled. Why would a coach from South Florida prefer to evaluate his arm in 30-degree weather rather than utilizing the school's indoor training facility? Teams from much colder places didn't even have such desires during other private workouts.

Three reasons, Cameron explained: Buffalo, New York and New England. Three divisional opponents always on Miami's away schedule. Three cold-weather cities.

''As soon as he said that, I loved it,'' said Quinn, the Fighting Irish's beloved record-breaking leader. ``He's already thinking ahead. I love that about this guy.

``Coach Cameron doesn't leave out any details when he evaluates a quarterback.''

During a predraft luncheon in New York on Thursday, Quinn raved about the Dolphins' staff. While it remains to be seen whether Miami will be able to reciprocate Saturday, there's certainly no question about Quinn's affection.

''I love Coach Cameron,'' said Quinn, likely to be the second quarterback taken Saturday. ``He's awesome. . . . Awesome. Just innovative. Fun. Very intelligent. You could tell right away by the things we were doing on the field and in the classroom.

``Just awesome.''

So while Quinn would certainly become a richer man if he landed in Oakland, which has the No. 1 overall pick Saturday, his comments Thursday made it seem he might be a happier man if he wound up in Miami.

Many analysts still project he will likely land somewhere in between -- most likely Cleveland at No. 3.

'People say, `Are you going to be disappointed if you slide?' '' Quinn said. ``I just tell them, `Why? I'd be on a better team with a better opportunity to win right away.'

``It's not about money for me. It's about playing in the NFL. It's about having the opportunity to win championships and do something I didn't do at Notre Dame.''

WACKY SCENARIOS

It will take a lot to make the match happen between the Dolphins and Quinn. First, it would require desire from Miami to trade up. Then, it gets much wackier from there.

Different scenarios have been played out everywhere from ESPN to Internet message boards. But it is one of the most complex schemes, ironically, that could be the most feasible of all.

If Miami traded for Kansas City's Trent Green before the draft, it could lead to a trade that would send Daunte Culpepper to Oakland.

And if the Raiders acquired Culpepper, they might not need LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell, thus resulting in the slide of Russell and Quinn down the draft board. Russell then goes to Cleveland at No. 3, while the Dolphins trade ahead of Minnesota and snag Quinn at No. 6.

And voil?! There you have it: A draft-day bonanza crazier than Mel Kiper's hair.

''It's all funny,'' Quinn said. ``So many different things could happen. It's draft day -- it's fun. People just get nutty and do all kinds of things.''

While Quinn said his competitive side still wants him to be drafted first overall -- noting he would also be thrilled to play for Cleveland in his home state of Ohio -- the Dolphins also come with other intrigue.

PERFECT FIT?

Quinn likes the idea of playing for Cameron -- as well as reuniting with quarterbacks coach Terry Shea, who spent months privately training Quinn for the draft before the Dolphins hired him in February.

Still, there's one other issue that Quinn kept referencing Thursday: It's not his choice. Oakland might not want him. Cleveland might not want him. Nor Minnesota or Miami.

The Dolphins would like to draft a quarterback with one of their 10 picks this weekend, but other later-round options such as Brigham Young's John Beck and Michigan State's Drew Stanton are also solid candidates.

So rather than worrying about where he might land, Quinn will simply concern himself with what he will do when he gets to the NFL.

''I know this: I'm going to get drafted,'' Quinn said. ``I don't know when. I don't know where. But when it happens, I'm going to be excited about it. For me, it's not about the money. It's about playing and finding out where I'm going to be.

``The draft is going to come and go. After that, it's about winning.''

my cousin is likely to be drafted this weekend, his name is george batiste and he went to usm. look out for him during day two.

Anyone else think Jamarcus Russel is highly overrated and has large bust potential?

Strong armed QB, inconspicuous college career compared to alot of other QBs, and came out of nowhere to the top of the draft board after one game.

Reminds me of Ryan Leaf.

He didn't come out of nowhere. The guy was dominant for a quite a while at LSU (except when he played Florida). I was relieved when I heard he was leaving because no other team in the SEC would've stood a chance next season if he was back. He's the best QB in the draft, and the Raiders need a QB. He's not overrated and he should be the top overall pick.

His numbers in college are pretty amazing honestly and he played against the best competition in college football (SEC).

My hope for the Dolphins in the first round with the 9th pick:

1. Brady Quinn QB

I like Quinn a lot. He has been being taught by Charlie Weis and would be taught by Cam Cameron two guys who know how to make good QBs. Quinn has IMO has franchise QB written all over him.

2. Levi Brown LT

Can start right away. Opposing players have said his motor doesnt stop and never gives up on plays. Is a mower on the run block. Possibly our LT for the next 10 years.

3. LaRon Landry S

He is a mean SOB. With Jason Allen moving to CB and the secondary being the worst part of the defense I think the Dolphins would be very happy with a guy like Landry. He is a bruising tackler and has the speed to run down runaway WRs or deflect a deep ball.

Overall I hope the Dolphins land one of these three guys hopefully all them dont go before the Dolphins pick.

A little under 4 hours till the first pick, I wonder if the dolphins are trying to make a deal

I think/hope they try to trade up before Minnesota if Quinn is still on the table after the Browns pick .

I think its a real stupid concept that we are willing to give up picks for Trent green yet we cant pull any strings on moving up for Quinn. I mean Quinn is a QB of the future that will sell seats and maybe bring back the days of Marino, where the dolphins actually had a QB. I mean if Cameron is in this for the long run why wouldn't he want a young QB rather than a older one with only a couple years left.

I Pounded Joe Thomas on bodog.....got him at +500 and then +450 to be the third pick...If your on bodog i'd jump on it before they take it down.

It's still speculation until it gets done. Id hate to cost you a ton of money! :lol

Raiders to take Russell, Browns to take Joe Thomas!! That could possibly allow the fins to jump up to 6 and take Quinn! Apparently, according to this, Quinn will be on the board for the fins at 9.

I dont think that happens. I think cleveland needs to take a qb or trade back. It would be a waste to take Thomas at #3.

They just said on espn that the browns were intersted in russel but the raiders wanted to much.

Nah, i read the article as well....I only bet like $10 on it.....the draft is a crapshoot but at those odds, why not.

List the best and worst possible picks for your teams

Jets #25

Best: Blaclock or Paul Poz (I cant spell his name)

Worst: Olsen or Houston

Eagles

Best: Merriweather or Brian Leonard

Worst: Some fat tub of lard.

Dont be suprised to see randy moss traded today. I dont think there is any chance he can be on the raiders this season after quiting on them.

Buccaneers:

Best: Calvin Johnson, Joe Thomas, Gaines Adams

Worst: Brady Quinn, Adrian Peterson

I hope Quinn falls to 5 or 6 so we can trade up, but I don't see him getting past the Browns at 3. :confused

all reports are now that the browns are going with joe thomas, the lions with calvin (and might or might not be trading him), and the raiders with russell

the majority of the minneapolis papers have the vikes going for landry (which, imo, is their best pick)....i really think there's a decent chance now quinn falls to 9

From ESPN today:

As for Quinn, the Cleveland Browns, according to team sources, will, barring a trade, go with Wisconsin tackle Joe Thomas over the Ohio native with the third overall pick.

Quinn is also not expected to be selected by the Minnesota Vikings, who are committed to 2006 second-round pick Tavaris Jackson. Quinn is expected to be on the board at the ninth pick when the quarterback-needy Miami Dolphins are on the clock.

I love the new Reggie Bush commercial..

"for those that passed on me"... aka the Texans... thats it lol
