July 13, 200719 yr For all the non trolls, it was a nice event even though the music they played was quite clown shoes. Is ESPN or ABC televising the first friendly with Chelsea or is it on FSC?
July 13, 200719 yr espn next week I believe they talked about it on MLS last night on espn 2 (never miss that now that I know it is on I think that will be fun to see.

Sorry But seriously, i just cant see soccer ever being big, no matter how much they ram beckham down our throats.

I mean we had Pele in this country and it did nothing other than a few short years. We might get there one day but as of now it's not going to happen but this is a step in the right direction because if Soccer is to ever take off we need more than US talent leading the way and this is a good start

It certainly doesn't help when people like you don't even give it a chance.. I understand if you hate soccer though, but hopefully this catches on and we can get more stars to come to the US I think the game is on ESPN

July 13, 200719 yr If Becks move over here generates a buzz and then a bigger buzz lures some more big names over, you never know what could happen. The demographics of our country are ever changing. A common myth among many Americans is that "no one in America likes soccer". Wrong. There are a TON of soccer fans in America but there not necessarily MLS fans. They're still rooting for the leagues from their home countries.

I've given it a chance... its just boring to watch and not enough scoring. Simple as that. I get in to soccer.. just once every four years. I can never seeing it get past that.

Did u watch the Copa America? Like 4 goals per game. Also, Cauthemoc Blanco came to the MLS and its gonna keep going. U just gotta find a team u like and youll become a fan. Trust me.
July 13, 200719 yr Unless the level of your domestic league improves, it will be pointless for you to watch the WC every four years.
July 13, 200719 yr Just my thoughts on why Soccer has a huge chance of catching on if our domestic league's catchup. We're a very nationalistic country and their's no other sport that fits that description like soccer. I refuse to believe something that inspires such national pride around the world will not ever catch on with Americans. It's certianly growing here but it's still a good 10 years away though.
July 13, 200719 yr the mls is in it for the long run. the league certainly has improved by leaps and bounds since it started. and it will continue to get better. people saying that it doesn't have a chance don't know what they are talking about. sh*t 60 or 70 years ago football wasn't nearly as big as it is now. it was all about baseball. and people saying that soccer doesn't feature much scoring and then are huge football fans are hypocrites. there's not that much scoring in football either. it's just that a score is worth 7 points.
July 13, 200719 yr Americans don't like soccer because they're no good at it. If they can't be the powerhouse, theyre not interested.
July 13, 200719 yr and people saying that soccer doesn't feature much scoring and then are huge football fans are hypocrites. there's not that much scoring in football either. it's just that a score is worth 7 points. BUT WE WON 14-10 14 - 10 !!!!!
July 13, 200719 yr Yea, compare soccer to the most popular sport in the US. That should be a winning battle. Just for arguments sake, in the NFL you have whooping ass, something americans love.. in soccer, you have guys who act like they are getting the crap beaten of the them.. and ties. And 0-0 games. And incredibly long amounts of time of absolutely nothing happening. And foreigners love that sh*t! You kidding me? Jumping up and down the entire games when its defenseman to mid... mid to center... center to mid... cross. out of bounds. When i see americans go nuts for that, pigs will be able to fly whenever they want.

July 14, 200719 yr Anyway, getting off the topic of soccer-bashing for a second...I don't follow the MLS, but if Beckham is playing in New England soon (I think he may be, I'll have to look), I might check it out. Ahh, only a month or so until the Premiership season starts...now we're talking. :thumbup
July 14, 200719 yr New England Revolution play LA Galaxy on August 12th. I'm pissed because I won't be heading back up to Boston for college until September, so I'll miss out on my chance to see Beckham in a live match.
July 14, 200719 yr I think we'll see a boon in interest in soccer in the US pretty soon. Not only is the MLS really getting some fantastic players to pique everyones interest in club soccer, but the National Team has such a bright future.
July 14, 200719 yr hopefully with the addition of Beckham the galaxy will get out of the hole they are in, they are one of the worst teams this year but that was until beckham joined the team. He will at least get them 2-3 victories alone with his free-kicks and should make the team around him better, not only with his talent but with the overall morale boost the the team will get from having a world class player in the squad.
