Cabrera could be moved because...disciplinary lapses?

That proposed package isnt good enough anyway because Broxton is over-rated. He was worthless down the stretch run when they needed him the most.

let's not get carried away here

It seems that we're always running around in circles when this topic comes up. First of all, I would be the last one to advocate trading Cabrera if I KNEW there was a slight possibility of him being re-signed. But people, there is NO possibility. You have to be kidding yourselves if you think we will afford him at the 20 mil per year / 10 yr rate. I wish we could, but we won't unless some drastic change in the landscape just happens to occur. After seeing the FanFest fiasco earlier this year, and now this article, there just shouldn't be any doubt as to what the sentiment is. All I am saying is that the Dodgers probably have the best package of prospects available right now; can someone care to lay out something better?

Let the Red Sox resign Lowell, then trade Cabs for Lowell, Ellsbury, and a couple pitching prospects. Buy a plane ticket to a far away place, and find a dark cave to hide in for all of eternity.

The article is a bunch of crap much ado about nothing!!! Fredi should be fired!!

:lol

I'm not reading into this very much. Relax guys.

Disagree.

This was the latest in a long series of chances for the FO to stand up and simply say NO. But they didn't. And more importantly, we've spent all season listening to Beinfest time and again say the team is built on pitching and defense. Pitching and defense. I say Cabs will be shopped, and probably attract a real nice package that includes MLB ready players at 3B, CF, C, and a couple of pitching prospects. Loria saves 10M and he has no fan base left to alienate, so that's not a concern. Willis, who even with a bad season was our best pitcher, remains, and regains his form next year.

First time in 2 years I agree with a thought of your's.

ditto...much a hoopla about nothing...just like every year...by december peter gammons and ken rosenthal will be saying they have an insider who says the marlins are lookin to deal cabs and willis...just like every year..............

Nah...I had second thoughts, and decided that the chances of Penguino being correct were about the same as Bush being correct about Iraq...so I switched my thought.

Miggy needs to shed 25-30 pounds and get back into shape. I mean yeah he's hitting the sh*t out of the ball, but his defense is sh*t. Make him lose weight so his mobility can help his defense illuminate his overall performance. In order for us to sign Miggy long term he has to be in shape.

Im not reading much into this but If Cabs does get traded that will be the dumbest thing for the Marlins FO in every aspect.. Crowd, Stadium, Season Tickets, etc... NO WAY they move Cabrera

He's lost a ton of weight since his much publicized weight issues. It's ignorant people that perpetuate this 'issue.' He's a big guy naturally. Go up to him and tell him he's fat.

Yeah, so you're calling me an ignorant? He's a big guy naturally, that's why in 03 he was fit and had an 8-pack. He needs to get back in shape for his own good.

In '03 he was 20. Most people as they get older do what's called 'filling out.'

So in conclusion, yeah, I guess I'm calling you ignorant.

You're an idiot. You said he's a big guy naturally, and now you're saying he's big now because he's older and he's "filling out". And i'm the ignorant one for pointing out the obvious fact that he's fat? Maybe you're the ignorant for disregarding the subject.

I guess I missed where growth is unnatural.

So everyone should just hold themselves to their prepubescent or even infantile size.

In case that's too complicated: Are you as big now as you were when you were twelve? Or in the event you are twelve, are you as big now as you were when you were 7?

It happened over 6 months. He gained about 20-30 pounds in an off-season. He needs to lose weight for his own good, it's too early in his career for him to be as out of shape as he is now. If D.Wright and Cabs were free agents right now, Wright would get the most attention because he's fit to be a third baseman for the next 15 years. Cabrera, not so much. At the rate he's going,he's going to play third until he's 26 or 27 and then move to 1B or go to the AL as a DH.

Woah woah woah.

See this: this is the point. You looking? Good, because you missed it.

There's no debate that he put on weight IN the season. He showed up in spring in AMAZING shape. He then pulled an oblique, should have gone on the DL, played through it, couldn't work out and put on weight. After the oblique healed, he got back in shape and he closed the year in better shape than he was in May. If you say he showed up out of shape, then case closed, you're a lost cause.

Now, about relating this all to what he was like in 2003...you can't. That's stupid. He wasn't fully grown then. Miggy showed up in February in stellar shape. Miggy had a bad injury. Miggy put on weight. Miggy worked off the weight.

Also, in case you forgot, baseball is played every day. Hard to hit the gym intensely when you've got that sort of thing going on.

EDIT: Oh wow, I missed the Wright/Cabrera thing. Jeez, I'm kind of glad I did, that was so moronic my head hurts. Do yourself a favor sometime and check out the historical comparisons for Cabrera and Wright regarding their respective age and production. Of Cabrera's top-10, 8 are current or soon to be Hall of Fame players (that's a good thing) and he is most comparable to Hank Aaron (who is #2 on the all-time HR list).

Wright? Just one current Hall of Famer (Duke Snider). His most comparable batter through his age? Dick Allen who won an MVP award with the White Sox.

lolol, it never stops and yet Swift is the first to cry to mommy if someone offends him.

The guy is overweight, he was grossly overweight, now he's just overweight. He's not overweight because he's 24 instead of 20, he's overweight because he isn't either eating correctly or working out enough, or he's injured (which he is but who knows which is the chicken and which is the egg on that one), or some combination of all of them.

And for the $10 million the guy will justifiably get next season as one the five or six or eight or whatever the number is superstars in the game, it's not unreasonable for a fan (or the front office for that matter) to expect him to be playing at 100% of his ability.

The guy played most of the season out of shape. It's indisputable and to call someone ignorant because they aren't wearing Swift blinders is, while you usual behavior, still reprehensible.

"Is Miguel Cabrera taking his Hall of Fame talent seriously enough? Or was his in-season weight gain a warning sign that he, too, should be shipped off for a boatload of cheap young talent before he breaks down physically?" - Sun Sentinel

Sept 2007 http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columni...,7719923.column

"Cabrera is even less interested in anything but his four at-bats than Manny Ramirez. Cabrera is an awesome hitter - perhaps the young Manny - but between his ballooning weight and indifference, he has become a third-base liability and his apathy is palpable." NY Post Sept 2007 http://www.nypost.com/seven/09302007/sport..._phantastic.htm

"The Marlins' media guide lists Cabrera's weight at 210, but he said he was close to 260 when the season started. He's down to 246 now and says his target weight for the next couple of weeks is 235." June 2006 Miami Herald http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-146512768.html

His weight is and has been a problem.

This isn't a trade Miggy comment, this isn't even about Miggy. It's about you feeling free to call someone ignorant because they see things differently than your POV.

Grow up.

And oh btw this fantasy of yours he showed up atcamp in amazing shape is just that a fantasy. He came to camp in good shape not great shape, I think there's even some pics on the site from the first week of spring training.

Ummm...I really don't care. Especially about you. I'm not throwing around anal cavity #1 like you. Nor am I complaining. You suck at a lot of things, notably defending a position without resorting to hypocritical practices. Like, you know, accusing me of having blinders on yet you posting unsubstantiated drivel after unsubstantiated drivel.

Ironic that you'd cite the South Florida media now of all times. They no longer have an ax to grind? The new york post? Amazing, regurgitated garbage from the South Florida media that already doesn't do their homework.

By the way, big-boy, I'm still waiting for the Zimbalist article that was promised waaaaay too long ago. So go get on that. :thumbup

It's almost done for what's it's worth. I don't think you'll be able to comprehend it, maybe daddy can read it to you.

It's fact-based, you're going to have a lot of trouble with it.

And regarding the media, I uses the items not as confirmation of my beliefs but that subject of Cabrera's weight is an ongoing issue. I could have quoted Sporting News or othwer national media, I grabbed the two most handy.

Oh I don't want anything you wrote. I want Zimbalist's words. That's it.

By the way, funny that it's taken you this long when it was promised ages ago. Really hard to find sources that support your mindless work.

It's Zimbalist's words and a number of other impeccable sources but of course we know the game you're playing. You can try to change the original issue all you want, but as usual you'll be proven wrong.

Admin will be glad to tell you it took a few days to fix a problem with the file I didn't know how to solve, and thanks to Admin it is fixed, and I decided, and I hope you don't mind, to enjoy the last weekend of baseball because unlike you, I am a Marlins fan.
