QUESTION HERE THOUGH: If a player is acquired via the Rule V Draft route, and he is later re-routed to another team for X player or cash, does this mean the same rules apply for the third party team that acquired him? Do they have to keep him the whole season in the majors in order to keep his rights, or can they demote him without having to re-route him to his original team for the 25K it costs?

I guess the Marlins weren't really interested in the most coveted candidates, and decided to get some cash instead of wasting a pick on someone likely available in later rounds.

What this probably has to do with is roster management. Having just taken in a net +4 players there was as of this morning only one spot left on our 40 man roster and i suspect Beinfest has other plans for that spot. I hope this isn't going to turn into another excuse to continue bashing ownership (you have every right to do so, I just think this is an incredibly dumb one to use as an excuse). Beinfest did a favor for a peer. The fact we don't know why doesn't mean bad motives should be ascribed to it.

The Marlins just did not like anybody and they got 'free money' for something they never were going to use. It's sad how everyone jumps on them for everything these days. This was a smart move. They've shown no reluctance before of trying out Rule V players (Uggla/McGrew/etc)
