January 5, 200818 yr Gregg is the closer of the present but with the bullpen talent we have it may have been a good idea to deal him while his value was high. I like him as a player and team member but he while he is a good reliever he isn't dominant and isn't what I would expect in the closers role.

January 7, 200818 yr Long relief : Gardner If you look at Gardner's record over the last four years at both the major league level and the minors, he's been used exclusively as a one, or at most two inning guy. He's not an innings-eater, he's best used as a situational pitcher. In 2007 for example, he pitched four innings once, three innings the same and then a handful of appearances where he pitched two innings. The overwhelming majority of games were one inning or less, sometimes just for one out. This isn't meant as criticism but just to point out that gamelogs of players (Gardner's at ESPN for example http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=5179 ) can be very telling. I come to the conclusion that the reason for his success last season was as much about his talent as the situations in which he was used. I don't think the Marlins would deviate much from that.
January 7, 200818 yr there is another guy in the mix, who was being set up for closer until his injury and that is Owens. He is projected to be back by May or June and while you do not want to overuse early, he still may eventually be a serious competitor for closer. For the time being, I am OK with Gregg

I think he has some very good stuff and should man our closer role fine for another two years. Let our young kids mature a bit more. Gregg is the man. :thumbup
January 11, 200818 yr I've been really impressed with Kevin Gregg but he can also be a future starter. He starter a couple games in LA so maybe the closing duties can go to Gardner or Justin Miller
