October 24, 200322 yr here's the dilemma: Yanks will have Pettitte and Mussia pitching Games 6 & 7, both on a full 4 days of rest. Marlins can throw Beckett out there in Game 6 on three days rest... and they'd have Pavano if needed in Game 7 (again, on three days rest) if needed. The risk here is will these guys be at their best? If you could hold Beckett back until Game 7, I'd do it, but then who pitches Game 6 if Pavano and Penny can't go? Redman's gotten killed last 2 starts, Dontrelle's not ready. The only solution seems to be Beckett on three days rest for Game 6.
October 24, 200322 yr This is the Marlins! I don't know what team you've been following, but do you think they'd do their fans a favor and win Game 6 easily? No. They are going to push this to the 29th inning of Game 7. Go with Redman. Maybe he can pull it off. If not, Willis and Helling can provide effective long relief. Also Beckett has never started on three days rest and I'm not completly convinced with Pavano's ability.
October 24, 200322 yr It's a tough decision, but I would go with Beckett. He's shown that he can do it on the short rest in the Chicago series. Granted that was not a start, but it was four innings of relief. I don't like Redman in game six because he's been walking people, and Bernie Williams and Jeter are too hot to let many runners get on. I really think our offfense is ging to have to step it up and score enough runs. You also have to remember that our bullpen has not exactly been lights out.
October 24, 200322 yr although pavs has pitched great, beckett has been the only reliable pitcher all through the postseason. I don't think we should play the beckett card in game 6 becuase there's always a possibility of game 7. we need to save our bullets for game 7. I say Willis for 6. he seems to pitch well into the 5th inning...after that, pull his a** off!
October 24, 200322 yr You go with Redman. He was arguably our #1 this season, and right now he is having a rough go of it. As Brad Penny could attest, getting a second chance is all you need. Redman has had a quality start in this postseason, and he is good for another. You go with him and try and win it in 6. Remember, we have the DH which works to our benefit because that means Encarnacion's bat is in the lineup. And Gonzalez will be hitting with Pierre behind him. I have a feeling that Redman is due - just look at this series. Gonzalez, Lee, Penny, Willis, Looper - all have come through when we needed them too. The only guys who have yet to do it are Lowell and Redman. Let's see if they show up Game 6...
October 24, 200322 yr Pitch Redman. He will not have some kind of goofy rest schedule like last time and 3 days rest is a losing plan.

October 24, 200322 yr Also Beckett could come in Game 6 as a reliever. Let's give Redman atleast a chance. Short leash. But a chance.
October 24, 200322 yr if beckett doesn't start, he doesn't pitch in game 6. Its that simple. Throw redman out there. We can go by committee if he can't get it done.
October 24, 200322 yr Give the start to Big Red, he's given us quality starts when on good rest. And you've got to get Beckett on 4 days, 3 days is just asking for trouble.
October 24, 200322 yr Yea i think Beckett is getting the ball. Jack didnt want to say who was going to pitch in the Interview after the game but it seems Josh will pitch.
October 24, 200322 yr you got to go for the jugular now, throw beckett on game 6th and play all your cards that night. it's their best chance.
October 24, 200322 yr you got to go for the jugular now, throw beckett on game 6th and play all your cards that night. it's their best chance. Totally agree. This is the time to throw everything you got... If you go thinking on game 7, you go for the loss. I think McKeon knows better. Josh will definetely start tomorrow.
October 24, 200322 yr Pavano was worn out Wednesday, so I wouldn't want him to pitch on 3 days rest. I just think that we are screwed if Beckett pitches game 6, and we lose. Redman's got a chance to win it. He has pitched well this postseason, except for the last two starts. He knows this Yankee offense, as he's been an American League pitcher, and we don't have to worry about him batting. I say, Redman, then Beckett. Pavano in there for relief in both games.
October 24, 200322 yr well, the problem with using Beckett on game 6 is that we're using him against pettitte... if we're going for the jugular, i'd rather save my ace for mussina. pettite scares the crap out of me. so would it be redman on game 6, then? i hope not. i'll bet money he gets lit up if we throw him out there. the last thing this guy can handle is an AL strike zone. i think it was a big mistake to throw d-train on game 5, but i guess theoretically he might still be able to start for saturday

October 24, 200322 yr Also Beckett could come in Game 6 as a reliever. Let's give Redman atleast a chance. Short leash. But a chance. I like throwing Red out for game 6 also. This seals the deal for beckett to go in gm.7 if needed BUT, like ramp said, if we have the lead after the 5th I see Josh stepping in to seal the deal. I'm giddy like a school girl. and not one of those slutty ones either
October 24, 200322 yr Part of me thinks they should go with Beckett and go for the kill. BUT I also don't want to see Beckett's arm ruined. I think Redman is due for a great game. The other thing is the McKeon hasn't used Tejera or Bump at all and I think that may come to haunt him in the next two games as the rest of the pitchers....starters and relievers are getting tired and he may be forced to use either Bump or Tejera who haven't pitched in at least two weeks!! I still don't like using starters as relievers. It's worked out so far but....like I said...you can't expect guys who haven't pitched to real batters for two or three weeks to be sharp.

October 24, 200322 yr I think pavano can do it, dont you?? I mean he has been playing very good and on game 6 he has the chance to win the game.. i dont think he doesnt take that !!!!! He wants to play game 6 the last!!!!!!!!!! Go Go Pavano you cand do it so just do it.. Marlins Champions!!!!!!!!
October 24, 200322 yr I think you go with Beckett and Pavano is necessary. Beckett looked great on 2 days rest in the Chicago series, so I think he will be fine on 3 days rest. Not to mention, I don't like the idea of game 7 at yankee stadium. Plus, I like the odds better going with your 2 hot hands Beckett and Pavano on 1 day short of normal rest then going with redman in game 6, maybe losing all the momentum, and having the team down a little bit in game 7 with beckett on the mound. In my opinion, I think this is an easy decision to go with Beckett and Pavano, we know Beckett can pitch on short rest, and if it goes 7, you have to trust the other hot hand in the rotation.
