Stadium Plans

Featured Replies

I know it's early to start speculating because so many things are still unresolved and we don't even know if this will get done, but any ideas on what the ballpark is going to be like?

We know it will have a retractable roof but other than that everything remains a question. Obviously they haven't drawn up any plans yet, but my biggest concern is making it a pitcher's ballpark. The organization is trying to get back to it's strong points by building a future of pitching. I don't know if this has any influence on what the dimensions of the park would be, but a pitcher-friendly park makes alot more sense. Especially because our guys are strong enough to hit it the ball out of any park (as they proved last year by playing 81 games in DS and finishing in the top 4 in homers) so a bigger park would be an advantage.

Do the fish/county have any say in how the park is built, or is it completely up to the builder?

the team has all the say basically, considering they have to stay within a certain budget. The Marlins probably submitted a wish list of items for the park and HOK probably came up with several design ideas to the team.

I think that they will not make a homer-friendly park. The team has been built on pitching over the years & they'll want to keep it neutral at least.

Not sure how dated this design is, but this is one I've seen posted before...

yeah...i remember them saying they would keep pitcher park dimensions...so im happy about that...pitching, speed and defense and hanley...love it!

That design is the same one from 05, I believe. You can see the OB on the right.

It might be a different angle of this mock-up, judging from that stick thing.

The problem with that design is it doesn't look anything like anything in the neighborhood. It stands out so bad it actually looks ugly. I'd like to see something more fitting to the architecture of Miami. That stadium would almost almost work downtown but its more abstract and futuristic than it is art deco.

I hope loria doesn't try to get too "artsy fartsy" with it and try to make a statement or something. Keep the cost INSIDE the stadium, not outside.

With the way the skyline is exploding I'd love if the outfield looked out to that. Imagine sitting in the upper deck behind the plate and looking at out at the city, especially seeing the AA Arena and the PAC all lit up.

god i hope not that shits ugly

Couldn't be worse than Dolphin Stadium.

Anything is better than that.

For me, as long as it has seats, a field, and a retractable roof, it's good to go.

Of course it's fun to see the extra's they add, but I'm just really glad the Marlins are going to have a stadium to their own :thumbup

oh yeah, and no more rain outs/delays :D

Does anyone have a pic of what the view would look like from homeplate looking out through the outfeild. Any type of skyline like Comerica or PNC?

I have no worries that this stadium will be one of the most impressive in the league. If not for Loria's great taste, for the simple reason they've had forever to brainstorm ideas. lol

that be nice if any one can remove OB put new ball park over that way we have better idea because this pic will get people more confess

i try it cannot be done but that pic will get people confess

Do you mean confused? Also, why would you want to take that out, it helps identify that it is not a current rendering. Taking out the OB would be what confuses people into thinking that it's a new design.

but this will too because it donot show were park will be were garage will be post that will people confuse that want to see how park will look at OB site

But since we don't know where they are laying down the park. I mean, they haven't even decided that yet.

Just google Orange bowl + Downtown. It will give you a good view from the Orange bowl to downtown, from about five years ago, before the Manhattanization of downtown miami.

There's a cruise in the backgorund. Man it would have been nice if the stadium was a water front. At least we are getting a staium so I'm happy. :thumbup

That was the stadium design proposal for Bicentennial Park when John Henry was the owner. This pic is old as hell.

Here is a view from the Orange Bowl from, I think, 2005. There should be a good view of all those new buildings that have gone up since then. This was one of the reasons I was always against a Dolphin Stadium, Hialeah or Broward suburban ballpark. I wanted a ballpark with a good view of the downtown skyline. The OB may not be in the center of Downtown, but it does provide a good view of the beautiful Downtown skyline for both fans and national tv. This is something that the Dolphin Stadium site, Hialeah, nor suburban Broward could never provide.

The only question remaining is will they turn on the building lights at night during the Marlins games.Presently they dont turn them on everynight.Without the lights you wont see anything.

The problem is, with the new ballpark having a retractable roof, there's always going to inevitably be an ugly, awkward looking roof stuck off to the side that's going to detract a lot from the park. Such is the price we pay for not having any rainouts.

Take Safeco Field, which is probably the most attractive of all the retractable roof stadiums. The areas down the first and third base lines look like a normal open air ballpark, as does the area behind left field. But behind the right field stands, where the roof "collects", you have this huge, looming structure of the retracted roof, which looks like one of those spaceships from Independence Day.

As for the downtown skyline, hopefully they will have panels that retract from behind the outfield fence which would give a clear view of the skyline on days where the roof is open. However, during days when the roof is closed, everything will be lost.

The bottom line is, unfortunately I don't think we'll have the best looking ballpark in the league due to the roof. You look at the best parks built in the past two decades--Oriole Park at Camden Yards, PNC Park, Giants Park--they're all open-air. The Marlins will have to trade of asthetics for practicality in getting the roof. However, it will still be a baseball-only park and even more imporantly, it will be the Marlins and the reason they stay in South Florida, so I'll be more than happy to see the place open.
