The Orange Bowl Demolition Thread

If we have a design, why can't we break ground sooner? It looks like the land is cleared and ready. Can't they prep the land without an official final blue print anyways?

Are they preserving the east endzone and the scoreboard? It looks like it's still intact.

Don't know about the east end zone but they do wanna preserve the scoreboard.

Does anyone know what will be done with thos vacant lots just North of the site? Will the baseball field be part of the project? What are those buildings where the school buses are parked?

The area has some real potential for development. If this is done right...it will be a real destination for all baseball fans.

I think they should move the scoreboard to the outer entrance of the grounds and use as a messageboard (similar to what the Angels did with the BIG A scoreboard in Anaheim)....

Anyone for flag football? We have a big, empty field that we can use. :mischief

They could turf the hole over and build a cricket/Aussie football ground like they did in Lauderhill. :mischief

I thought the scoreboard was going to be transferred to another park in the City of Miami for use there.

I think you mean "west" not "north". The area north of the OB lot is developed (that's where I've parked for UM games). I'm sure there will redevelopment in that area and wouldn't be surprised to see one of the garages there.

The May 19th Article on the stadium

The last indicator that football was played at the Orange Bowl is the scoreboard. In time, that too will be removed, but the team plans on preserving a piece of that board.

"The sign that is on top of the scoreboard, that says, Orange Bowl, the team is going to save," Samson said. "We're going to incorporate that into the new building. We don't know how yet, but we recognize the historical importance of that site. We're going to combine that with the history of the Marlins, and our two World Series titles. We're going to have some sort of homage to that."

As for the scoreboard itself, efforts are being made to see if it can be recycled and used by another school.
