The Orange Bowl Demolition Thread

Thanks for the pictures. So many mixed emotions.

Last time I was down in Miami (early March) I did a lap around the park taking photos. It's going to feel so damn weird driving on 836 and not seeing it there. But sooo dreamy (no homo) driving by and seeing Hanley's House going up.

You are a liar. You are totally homo for the new stadium....sicko...

Honestly, when construction starts in a few years you never know.

I passed by it this afternoon. The pressbox area is pretty demolished, but Im surprised that it takes that long to destroy a stadium. There were some railings outside, but most of the stands are still standing.

I think because the City recently passed a law that states that the demolition of all buildlings must be done to recycle parts of it. So they aren't just imploding it, they're going piece by piece systematically.

Sad to see. :(

I saw well over 500 events in that stadium, from my 1st High School Game (1961) when I was 1 ? and my parents took me to the Miami High vs Coral Gables football game, to the last game I was at in 1991 which was the Hurricanes vs U of Houston.

I was a Dolphins season ticket holder 1978 to 1986 in the old bowl, and a U of Miami student 1978-82 and then season ticket holder til 1991. (Had to give up my season tix because my Multiple Sclerosis was too advanced by then - I was wheelchair bound)

I also saw many U of Miami games before I was a student, including when Miami beat Southern Cal in 1966, the Great Gator Flop in the 1971 Florida vs Miami game, and when Miami beat then preseason # 1 Texas 20-15 and then proceeded to lose 8 games in a row in 1975.

I will miss her more than a lot of you, because a great deal of my childhood & young adult memories were made there.

This might be off topic, but legends don't get 2000 hits, they get 3000. Grudzielanek is trying to catch up to the immortal Shawn Green.

I've always been a Canes fan so it's sad to see the OB get demolished.....but at this point I'm all for it, considering what is going to be built there after they finish!

I have to drive both ways on 836 everyday to go to school, so I get to see the progress of the OB Demolition.

This past weekend, as some of you may have heard, some debris caught fire and Channel 10 once again aired their footage of the demolition from last month. You can see the video here:

If you go to Flickr.com, you can search "Orange Bowl Demolition" and there are a number of pictures from 3/9 and 3/23...

They have knocked out the entire lower bowl along with a quarter of the south side (with half the press-box down too) and just yesterday or today began working on the north side...

As excited as we may be for what's coming, it's still incredibly sad to see the OB go down.

Anyone else passed by there recently? I can only update you from what I can see at 60mph on the 836 bridge...

I passed today april 11 headed east and west on 836 and its a sad site that I am resigned to it

Almost the entire North Side of the stands are gone. They stopped work (at least noticable work) on the South Side after they reached the Press Box.

Next up... the closed endzone.

Beetle your pic of OB coming down was add to From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia under New Marlins Stadium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Miami_stadium

Cool.

Not cool. The wikipedian who uploaded the pictures used attested to being the copyright holder of the pictures and released them into the public domain.

Not sure if you care.

Nah... quite frankly, I don't mind. If I was interested in selling these, I wouldn't have posted them in the first place. But, thanks for pointing that out; you are correct. The internet is a haven for art thieves.

Ok, so I was wrong... the closed endzone wasn't up next. As I headed back east on the 836 today, I noticed that half the pressbox was missing... At the rate they're going, it should be completely gone in about 2 weeks, making way for the cleanup and then November groundbreaking... At least I can only hope so!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I love this picture.......

(forget the car.... it's what's in the background that counts)

So glad that sh*t hole is gone.

Nice use of the watermark, if you're interested I can also show you how to place an "invisible" watermark sometime too

That thing going down is definitely something though, the last (and only) time I went there was for a Canes/Clemson game... Canes lost... so, burn it down :p

I know how. Again, I just don't care much if someone lifts these; only this time, I figured, I might as well give the site some promo. :cool

Great pics, thanks for posting them. I can't wait to see the Marlins' stadium going up.
