The Orange Bowl Demolition Thread

Featured Replies

I want to see the video of it imploding!

It won't be imploded due to it's location in a residential neighborhood. Instead it will be demolished the old fashioned way with a wreckball and bulldozers (think of Ebbets Field, but without the wrecking ball painted like a baseball)

They were removing everything piece by piece. The seats will be recycled as sewage pipes and the stadium lights will be sent to another location.

They did mention that the Marlins will be moving there.

They should absolutely sell off the rights for people to take a few shots with a sledge hammer to start the demolition, give a plaque as a momento and a picture and t shirt, after the release of liability is signed. I think a lot of people would want to do that.

Awwwww, so to fulfill my needs, I'll just pretend that this is the OB

Any pics of it anywhere? I'd like to see it get demolished at least in pics.

have they started the demo of the actual structure? or are they still working on clearing the site out?

I passed by yesterday and didn't see the big sign that says Orange Bowl, it's good to see that this is progressing!

That's been gone for a while. It wasn't there when they had the farewell flag football game in January.

okay granted it was definitely time for the OB to be put out of it's misery. Still lots of memories there.

Some of them are a little fuzzy actually....

apparently I drank a lot there too.

I'm with you Hotcorner. Maybe a lot of people here will cheer, but I have 40+ years of memories in that old lady. Its a sad day for me. :confused

I have to drive both ways on 836 everyday to go to school, so I get to see the progress of the OB Demolition.

This past weekend, as some of you may have heard, some debris caught fire and Channel 10 once again aired their footage of the demolition from last month. You can see the video here:

If you go to Flickr.com, you can search "Orange Bowl Demolition" and there are a number of pictures from 3/9 and 3/23...

They have knocked out the entire lower bowl along with a quarter of the south side (with half the press-box down too) and just yesterday or today began working on the north side...

As excited as we may be for what's coming, it's still incredibly sad to see the OB go down.

Anyone else passed by there recently? I can only update you from what I can see at 60mph on the 836 bridge...

Wow, it's comin down quick. I can't wait to see them start the Marlins park.

it sad to see OB go down but we know new OB come up as home of marlins i hope one part ob will remain so we wont forget old ob gave us super bowl, dolphins 17-0 season and hurr best season, champship of collage football ob games

Thanks for the pictures. So many mixed emotions.

Last time I was down in Miami (early March) I did a lap around the park taking photos. It's going to feel so damn weird driving on 836 and not seeing it there. But sooo dreamy (no homo) driving by and seeing Hanley's House going up.
