2 Wins, 2 Walkoff HRs

Featured Replies

Disclaimer - I do not believe we will be do anything close to winning half of our games this season with walkoff HRs.

That said, if this is any indication, things should be exciting this year, at least on the nights we can get decent pitching. I know some have been critical of how dependent the team might be on HRs to score, but you have to admit that it makes for a hell of an exciting finish.

yeah...our outfielders played terrifically tonight...and hanley with 3 hits...but we do have some guys with speed and i feel like freddi is afraid to let em go...but hey...the pitching and defense were there tonight and got us a win...thats all i ask...now lets get em tomorrow

It's a win but I don't like to see Hanley get all these hits and then get stranded each time. I'm happy Jake and Hammer had a good night but my frustration with Uggla is simmering just beneath the surface.

Positives

We Won: Obviously, thank you Jake!

Defense: Nice DP by Uggla and two great outfield assists

Scott Olsen: The line isn't the best but the way he got there is a good sign

Bullpen: Three scoreless innings in a tie game, well done

Negatives:

Clutch Hitting: I know Olsen and Uggla were both robbed but we need more RBI's on non-homers when we have runners on base

Overall a good night and a deserved win. Thanks Fish!

are we tie or leading in hr in league?????? their say we already have 4 home run in past four game

Counting today, we have 6 HRs in 4 games.

I enjoyed the game immensely. Great D, a lot of guys who aren't getting hits making really good contact, came back from a deficit, Olsen's ERA my look high after tonight but pitched a heck of a game, I love watching the vulture work and interesting didn't. Jacobs, aside from his communications problem olsen continues to look goos at first ans keeps hitting drives which they've been trying get him to do for two years.

god i hate the manatees, and everyone knew between jacobs, willingham and cantu this game was not going beyond nine.

robert andino looks like a major league ballplayer but also carroll's play tonight was big. just an awesome play. but so was uggla's dp.

with wes helms cut and maybe available in a few days for virtually nothing, is this the end of the road for jason wood? so who's still unhappy we picked up luis gonzalez and thinks signing him was a mistake?

how long before fredi starts pinch-hitting olsen? amezaga is in a zone the way he's playing a walk is as good as a hit. except for treanor twice, no strikeouts tonight. how nasty is taylor tankersley when he's on his game?

just random thoughts.

I have several observations about tonight.

Positives

1. The defense. Uggla's web gem, Hammer's outfield assist, Treanor's pickoff, and then Carroll's outfield assist. DEFENSE! We were terrible last year. We look really good so far this year, although it's only 4 games...but still, we look very good defensively.

2. Scott Olsen. I think it's good that he gave up 3 runs in 1 inning b/c it kinda showed maturity when he came back and pitched well, afterwards. He pitched 6 innings. If he does that, he'll be just fine.

3. THE BULLPEN! Once again, I think we have the best bullpen in the NL East. You could easily make a case for Pinto being the worst pitcher in the pen, and look at what he did tonight. How many teams have that, as their "iffy" in the pen? When Pinto throws strikes, he's just as good as anyone, and THAT is our "question mark." Also, Tank striking out the lefty is big, and Gregg looked like Gregg, again. He threw strikes, and even the hit he gave up (OF assist by Carroll) was a bloop hit. 3 scoreless innings from the pen tonight.

4. We are 2-0 in 1 run games. I don't care what anyone says, that's a plus. We have a good bullpen, and it's allowing us to get the job done late in ballgames.

Negatives

1. I personally disagreed with a couple of Freddi's decisions tonight.

BUT...EXTRA POSITIVES! Jacobs walk-off was the Top play on Sportscenter, and Uggla's play on the field was #8. How about that, for love, from Sportscenter? :cool

I could really get use to this, last two years only two walk-off dingers combined, both by one player (Hammer). Hopefully they do it again tomorrow when I am there. Also that DP from Uggla might have been the best play I have ever seen him make.

Carroll's throw had me up off my couch and punching the air. Tremendous play. This team is fun to watch.

I think we should keep Carroll on the team, even when Hermida comes back. He's valuable as a defensive replacement late in ballgames (I'm not confident when Hermida's out there, either).

To whoever said it, yeah, I think it's time for Jason Wood to leave (which is sad b/c he really worked hard to get here, and he provided some clutch hits last year).

Totally agree, with Hermida coming back Wood is the odd man out, you can't send Andino back again, he's really showing what he can do, base hit tonight. I like Wood, but he's time has come to either go to another team or retire, I really don't think AAA is an option.

i agree...andino provides good defense and speed...two things you can never have enough of

He saved runs, and was robbed of an extra base hit. Take a Valium or something.

The best part is everyone throwing in the towel in the 2nd inning when Olsen was struggling. 95 percent of you Fish fans need to reevaluate your patience and fandom. I said it.

amen...its fine to not be all ra-ra all the time...but damn...scott olsen is a florida marlin and as long as he wears the black and teal...ill be rooting for him and not waiting for him to fail(you know who you are out there)

a couple of days ago uggla was hitting .375 and ramirez .200. one guy goes 3-5 the other 0-5 (although he didn't strike out once and that to me shows signs of improvement) and the numbers flip-flop. it is way too early in the season to be drawing conclusions about starter. one guy hit them where they were the where thet weren't.

look at cantu he's being the crap out of the ball and has absoluely nothing to show for it stats-wise..

it all comes out in the wash after about 100 at bats but until then all you can do is watch for indicators like hitting for contact.

LMAO who's the dumb bitch who said 'MIKE JACOBS WITH HIS FIRST MAJOR LEAGUE SHOT'?

and theen followed it up with "weclome to the bigs"

at least we know she's not a Mets fan!
