LetsG0Fish
Terrible Game all around. Miller seems like he needs more time in the minors. And 14 Stranded!!! 9 Hits 6 Walks and can't manage to score a run. :banghead :banghead :banghead Tomorrow is another day :confused Let's win our 3rd Straight series and get Badenshop his first ML win! :cool
Hollyberry
Did you watch this game? We just didnt have much luck at all. A lot of hard hit balls right to the fielders. Just not our day. Nice to see Andrew settle down abit after those runs were scored. I still think he might need some time in the minors.
Erick
I found positives in this game. :thumbup Positives 1. We hit the ball hard. To the wrong places, however. Give credit to the 'Stros, they were sharp, defensively. 2. Made the pitcher work. Backe was over 100 pitches after 5 innings. That's a good thing. 3. The bullpen threw 3 scoreless innings, again. Gardner, Kensing, and Tankersley, the pitchers. Kensing, especially, threw great, and Tank got into some trouble in the 8th, but had 2 K's (including 1 on Berkman). 4. Andrew Miller. He allowed 5 runs in 2 innings, and came back to at least keep the pen a bit fresh for tomorrow. Came back with good resiliency going 3 scoreless. With that said, I think he needs more work in the minor leagues. :thumbup Negatives 1. Miller made some mistakes, and paid for it. 2. 14 LOB is 14 LOB you can say. 0 runs. It is what it is. But seriously, we're 7-4 now. 4-1 on the road trip. We can make it 5-1 to start the year on the road, if we can get a win tomorrow to take the series from the 'Stros. Things could be worse right about now.
Tee Ball Bunt Machine
Bad game indeed, but how long can we expect to have a perfect road record? I think all the walks worked out was a plus, as was the lack of strikeouts. We did work the opposing pitchers most innings, just never enough together. And as they say in the video games - you can't win if you can't score. The pop was missing tonight with only 2 extra base hits though. While Miller's work left something to be desired still, can't blame this one on him. I think. Wasn't it 12 stranded?
Retro_Marlins25
Our pitching for the most part has been bad thus far. It's the offense that's been winning us games.
geemoney
I think all the walks worked out was a plus, as was the lack of strikeouts. That was the big plus on my list tonight. We haven't really walked enough yet this year. Hopefully patience is coming.
sdg210
Our pitching for the most part has been bad thus far. It's the offense that's been winning us games. I agree; our offense cannot always slug its way to victory. We need to show we can win lower scoring games as well as slug fests. It has to improve hopefully our injured starting pitchers will start coming back. So, yes bad game but remember you can't win 'em all. We had to lose eventually. Overall still a good road trip and with a win tomorrow it will be a great record to take into the Atlanta series. Hey, we're still in first place! :thumbup
Sirspud
The offense can't constantly bail us out when out SP puts us in the hole early in the game. It's more than just luck, after a while it's got to be a matter of frustration with the rest of the ballclub wearing us down. Jorge Julio pretty much tanked our season before all our SP got injured because you can't count on offense to always bail out bad pitching. Hey, we're still in first place! :thumbup Nothing always wins games, because no one always wins game. No matter whether a team relies on pitching like the Padres, or defense, or small ball or long ball, there will always be off nights. But I agree in general that the SP is the weak point. We won the low-scoring game 3 in DC, and without any HRs. This team has a good offense. And even on a night where we didn't score a run, having 9 hits and 6 BB with only 4 strikeouts, 1 on the pitcher and 1 on a PH, it still showed. That does make the zero runs all the more frustrating, but I don't think a 2 hit CG shutout would be any less frustrating. Only Rabelo and Cantu were held hitless. Things just didn't fall into place, and nobody got that good contact off Backe like we got last night off Oswalt. Not only still in first place, but still holding a 1? game lead, since the Brewers beat the Mets. Phillies are tied with them for 2nd though. I don't necessarily consider 4-3 a low scoring game. I'm talking about 1-0 ro 2-1. While we haven't come across games like that they will come around and we need to be able to pitch better to put ourselves in a position to win those games. We can't always expect to slug our way to victory. That was my point.
LordMagnus
I don't like the fact that Rick VandenHurk was sent down after struggling but Miller struggles and gets a free ride with the team. You HAVE to send a consistent message to guys. You gotta produce to stay with the big club.

Plus, Vandy was up last season and got tons of chances after bad starts.

This sums it up. We hit the ball hard, it just went right to fielders. Bad luck happens in a 162 game season.
Guest Lissy
Miller needs to be sent down. He is just not ready. The offense didn't look too good tonight, either. How many players did we leave on base again? Blah... get 'em tomorrow.

geemoney
At least Miller throws first-pitch strikes consistently and has a good K/BB ratio. That's something to build on.
