April 14, 200818 yr I have lived in south florida , central florida , and north florida pretty every sports radio station in florida sucks and of course, its just here in Florida that radio sports talk sucks :whistle It couldn't be that nationally syndicated programmes also suck ? Take one overnight show that regularly refers to the Marlins as playing in downtown Miami, and that insists (to the point of argument) that Huizenga is still the owner, and for sure knows that the Marlins have the worst bullpen in the majors (they insisted before the season started it was just horrible, and we would lose a lot of games this season, just like the bullpen lost us so many games last year) Does it really take much effort to look up the answers ? Its not just locally in So Fla or in Fla in general, its EVERYWHERE the quality of sports talk radio is just crappy, compared to 10 years ago.
April 14, 200818 yr I agree with him on Jacobs, i dont give a sh*t about giving Helms at-bats, and regardless you can still start him at third. Im not all that upset about Fredi benching him... I just wouldnt have done it myself. but, seriously, is it worth complaining about? Helms was awesome here 2 years ago against lefties. It's 11 games into the season...why not test this out? Clearly, Wandy Rodriguez was making everyone look like a fool today, regardless (especially LEFTY Jeremy Hermida, who struggled). If you're not going to play Helms...then there's no point in the acquisition. Also if we're going to use the "Jacobs had the hot hand" theory...Cantu's been hitting it well lately, as well. Like I said, I wasnt completely against it I just would have gone with jacobs and Helms at third. Cantu wishes he had a start like jacobs has had.

It really isn't about getting Helms some ABs as much as it is giving Jake a day off. He's been so hot that Fredi has been putting it off, but it had to be done. Also, you act as if Cantu isn't hot right now either.
April 15, 200818 yr We rarely see Lee Gardener, who IMO is one of our best relievers, if not the best, and we always see Pinto. Now clearly he has improved, thank goodness, but all last season Freddi torchured us with giving in too soon. Freddi commonly gives up on games. Not to mention Freddi refuses to pull pitchers who are clearly pitching BAD. Can't have it both ways. Freddi gives in too soon? Or he leaves guys in too long?? Pick a stance and stick with it, Caller. This year, Gardner hasn't been the Gardner of last year. And I don't call it giving up on games when you go to one of the best pens in the NL. Despite the inflated ERAs on a couple of them. I call it trying to keep the game close while your offense does something to help the team win. My bet is you are one of those callers. Or you have been listening to sports talk radio too long. Personally, I never listen to anything that ticks me off. I have better things to do with my time. Like sort out my sock drawer. That type of radio is the same in every city, in every state, and in every section of the country. Every caller knows how to do things better than the guys getting paid to do it. Makes one wonder why the callers are cleaning restrooms with a toothbrush at the nearest turnpike rest area while wearing a mask, snorkel, and bunny ears. Know what I mean??? When I said Freddi Gives in too soon I was refering to him giving in too soon on the game, and just putting in crap pitchers. I wasnt saying he pulls his pitchers, just the score will be like 5-2 and its immediately time to throw in Pinto (last season). Sure he was 5th in innings for the bullpen, but his innings always came at just retarded times like Freddi would throw him in at the 6th inning of a 3 run game, in that situation you want a guy to keep you in it, not a guy to extend the other teams lead.

Pinto was considered the long reliever last season. That's what a long reliever does. You hope he holds, but the bottom line is, he's there to give you 3 innings, to prevent you from using your middle guys, setup guy, and closer. Unlike Girardi's time here, Freddi's never had the luxury of coaching under good starting pitching.

But that's the thing. We didn't have any crap pitchers in the pen last season (I am obviously not counting Julio). Pinto is good. And like I said before, Pinto was the least used of pitcher in the pen last season. He only threw more than Tankersley, but that had a bit to do with the time Tank was in the minors.
April 15, 200818 yr Why do people care so much about Sports radio? Seriously, who cares what one guy has to say? Which is why the LeBetard show is awesome. They know no one should care about what they say and they do it well! Its just sports, bro, get over it! There are far more important things in life to worry about than whether a sports radio guy on SUNDAY NIGHT no less knows the difference between clutch and OPS. That is the one thing I miss from 560 (trust me there is not much I do) in that Eddie K would come on and he was very knowledgeable. By the way, LeBatard can be really boring at times. I kinda like listening to sports talk. I rarely find myself listening to LeBatard. Maybe if we all call in and make straighten the guy out and show the station that there are FANS here the will educate himself or the station will get a new guy. :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup eddie k is (was?) the man. he desperately needs to be on down here. :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup He was very good with baseball and the Marlins. And WQAM has replaced him with crap. The original post spoke to how lousy sports radio and one announcer was. Did you ever get the chance to listen to Eddie K.? . . P.S. Sadly, I don't think he's coming back. I e-mailed him about it and he said he highly doubted he'd ever be back in this market. We can hope though.

April 15, 200818 yr Hey point 2 wasnt that big a deal. I personally would have kept Jacobs in though. As far as it making a difference.. it COULD have... would it have? Chances are no but I mean whatever, too little too late in that situation. I personally am not a fan of Freddi because of who he uses in the bullpen. Let's just say that I am rooting for Fredi to succeed, but I have to agree with the host on #2 also. You don't take out your hottest hitter in middle of his hot streak. I'm fine with playing Helms, but he could have played 3rd and given Cantu a day off. He could have played Cantu at 2nd and Helms at 3rd and given Uggla another day off. Although I belive Uggla did have some hits in that game. Just pointing out that there were more options. Jake is raking and you have to leave him in when he is hot. If history is any indicator (which I hope it's not in this instance) , Jacobs will have a long slump, or an injury. Helms will get plenty of chances.

Eek, so was I the only one who dreaded when Pinto was put into the game? And god, please dont say that name, the one with the J Well, "J" sucked. But that too...was not Freddi's fault. As I tell Panthers fans, sports is a business, as well. "J" was brought in to solidify a closer's spot last year. The Marlins paid "J" good money to do it...soooo...Freddi had to give him the ball till he fully proved he wasn't capable. Going back to the Panthers, the way I can explain this is the goaltending situation. Vokoun is an All-Star and all, but fact is Craig Anderson deserved some more games this year. However, if you look at the money invested in Vokoun compared to Anderson, you'll see why Vokoun will always get his chances till he proves he isn't worth it (which he is, but you must get me by now). For example, when Anderson went on that run when he allowed 3 goals in 4 games...yet they put Vokoun back in there. Sort of like that. So that was the reason for "J." As for Pinto, as I said...I wasn't his biggest fan last year. BUT, he WAS the long reliever. He was the guy who could give us 3 innings out of the pen, and rest the rest of the pen, any given night, if he came throwing strikes. The Marlins didn't get many innings from starters last year, so to sort of prevent our setup guy, closer, etc. from being overused, we used Pinto out of the pen for innings. And while Pinto had his struggles last year with command, perhaps the experience has done some good for him. He's been our BEST reliever thus far this year. Pinto and Miller. I said it last year on the ESPN board...I thought our pen was very underrated, and I predicted this year, they'd be one of the best in the league now that "J" and "AB" are no longer around. I hope you know who "AB" is, as well. :thumbup
April 15, 200818 yr LeBetard sucks. He lives for bashing people. I don't understand why a sports radio station is paying him to talk about everything EXCEPT sports on his show. I second that.

It's an extremely boring meaningless complilation of inside jokes. But whne he finally decides to talk about something sports related, its the most meaningless things, such as tlaking about T.O. or injecting the race card into every single issue that occurs in sports. Yawn, I don't listen to him or read his articles.
April 16, 200818 yr If you are going to rip on Fredi, do it for the right reasons like how he doesnt rip into the players or argue calls. Jacobs has had bad history against lefties, Helms has had the opposite. What a compelte moron. The only sports radio show I can listen to is Mike and the Maddog, NO other station I have heard from comes even close to as good as them.
