marlins got back win column this nice win that home run by Wes Helms put us ontop and Scott Olsen load base few time but he was able to get out with out big damage but Logan Kensing play well to keep us in game and Matt Lindstrom too Kevin Gregg was able close game let get game sunday too i was section 141 did any see child get hit by flyball was ok because i did not see if take child away??????

...and with all the criticism Helms gets, that's about the 4th game he's won for us in the late innings already.

When I saw Uggla called out on strikes in the 7th or eighth on a pitch that looked to everyone in the park to be way down and way inside I had to look at it when I got home and if anything it looks worse. What a horrendous call.

 

Speaking of Dan I don't know if most realize it but as of tonight Uggla (you know the guy half the people here either want to jettison or trade away at the break) is leading the team in average, homeruns, total bases and is sporting close to a .400 OBP to go with the rest. It took a while for Presley's fix to start to show results but at this point in the season Dan IS the man.

 

I think Luis Gonzalez looks exhausted. He playing purely on adrenaline and desire at this point and needs a couple of days off before Arizona comes to town.

 

And lastly, no one can convince me something isn't (physically) wrong with Scott Olsen. Hopefully it's nothing more than a tired arm but my free advice to Fredi (d*mn he hasn't called lately) is to either bring someone up for a start or kluge together a start from Waetcher and fillintheblank and give the kid nine or ten days off.

Nice win to get back on track, they really needed this. Helms has been amazing in his limited opportunities, I know it's hard with a great first baseman like Jacobs to give him more opportunities, but having a great bat like that on the bench could help this team down the stretch. Great game...fun time tonight. VERY small crowd for a Saturday (and I was told people were buying tickets for the concert only, so that suprised me a ton)

 

also...that concert just ROCKED! I'm almost 21, but I feel like a 40 year old based on the music I like. It was a great show.

Yes Amezaga has been slumping but the way he plays CF is incredible. He makes so many great running catches. I just wish he could hit! :banghead

Yeah, my friend and I were talking about this at the game tonight. His velocity is just not there although he battled through it. After his last start he said he felt fine and figured his arm was just tired but I'm concerned.

I think that fits Olsen perfectly this year, b/c that's exactly what he's done.

After Scotty's last start he talked about his velocity being down and again a few days later. He said it felt strange that he felt the same but just couldn't throw as hard as he normally did. He didn't look the same in these last 2 starts.

I don't know....Dan is a VERY streaky hitter, and it seems like just a week or two ago he was hitting in the low .200s. It could be one of his trademark tears he's on before he goes another two weeks getting only a hit or two. I hope I'm wrong and he stays in a consistent zone, but I don't know.

I'm ecstatic that Uggla is doing what he's doing but it's hard not to be skeptical and assume he's going to tail off significantly in the second half.

 

As for Jacobs, I just hope that he stays healthy. From the looks of it we won't be seeing Willingham for awhile and Gonzalez is obviously unwilling to compensate. Perhaps with the news of the latest setback, Jones should be receiving consideration after all.

he has said that when hes pitching he sweats buckets so the long sleeves absorb the sweat and prevent it running down to his hand which could affect his grip on the baseball

With you on both these points. Guess you were radar watching with me at the game. Scotty seems to me to be the type guy that would try to hide some discomfort and attempt to pitch his way through it. If it's that shoulder, I would be very worried. But maybe we are both still suffering from the Girardi SP Syndrome.

 

Fully agree with the Jake comment too. Apparently those PH appearences kept him in the zone. And his D has really been coming around as well. Looks alot better with his glove this year. Some credit should be given to Andy for that. Andy stepped into a very tough situation last year, but with a full season AND a full Spring Training he looks like he has gotten to actually know his guys and has been helping. Even Cantu looks good in his first full time starting at 3B, despite the occasional bad throw to 1B.

I have all the respect in the world for Wiley, but I don't agree with this statement. And I would be willing to bet he dosen't either. I have never been real big on K's. as long as the outs are there. But... Scotty's main pitches are fastball, slider, and change-up. When your fastball is 4-5 mph under what you normally do, it dosen't make that change-up as effective. I'm going to continue to watch the radar gun, and my bet is Fredi and Wiley do too.

I didn't see that. Hope the kiddo is okay. However, I did have to explain to the guy sitting across the aisle from me why he almost cost us a run when he had his hat over the rail trying to catch the ball on that triple and collision. Him and his dad were nice enough guys and having a great time together at the ball park. From Mexico someplace and were really cheering The Amazing. Just didn't understand exactly how to act sitting on the wall. Oh well, it didn't cost us anything and they continued having a good time, as did we. But that young couple behind them wearing the Royals shirts sure looked pretty sad as the night wore on. Actually, they pretty much kept to themselves the entire game and were very respectful of who's ball park it was. Good to see a young couple that understands ball park manners. Even if they were also Chiefs fans. At least them and this Broncos fan agreed we both hate the Raiders.

Once again a low pitch count and once again his fastball didn't reach 90 mph. I think there's more to this shoulder situation than Olsen is letting on.
