October 27, 200322 yr Ray Castro, as he showed this year, has some major power. in very limited time he hit some big homers, including a walk off shot. so what do we do with this guy?
October 27, 200322 yr We bring him back next season as our backup catcher. This is based on if we sign Pudge. Of course, his trial could also be a factor.
October 27, 200322 yr I hate to see Ray on the pine for another year. But having a good backup catcher is critical. I hope we don't trade him. His playing time would depend on signing Pudge and pending court case.
October 27, 200322 yr We bring him back next season as our backup catcher. This is based on if we sign Pudge. Of course, his trial could also be a factor. I remember him saying earlier this year that he doesn't want to come back to Florida to be a backup next year. It's either starting or bust for him.
October 27, 200322 yr I remember him saying earlier this year that he doesn't want to come back to Florida to be a backup next year. Does he have a choice?
October 27, 200322 yr The problem is that if Pudge signs, you can't count on your catcher being healthy for the entire season. We need Ray as much as we need Pudge. Maybe he can play every 4th or 5th day. . . .
October 27, 200322 yr I say sign Pudge, Let go Mike and keep Castro as the backup I'm pretty sure that's the plan.

October 27, 200322 yr 1. Castro has a hole in his hitting that is easily exploited. 2. God knows what happens in Philly with his case. That it hasn't been dropped yet does not portend well for the guy. 3. he isn't a FA, he does as the Marlins want him to do
October 27, 200322 yr Well, if he's guilty we should tar and feather him and publically flog him. If not, he needs to show signs he's the catcher everyone's been talking about for years and take the #2 spot from Redmond.
October 27, 200322 yr i'm curious as to whether or not a team is forced to pay a guy if he gets convicted of a crime and sent to jail. it's not like an injury, and it's 100% the player's fault, so would we be able to get "out" of his contract?
October 27, 200322 yr Don't think so. A guaranteed contract is a guaranteed contract. Unless the club bought insurance in case of injury (like the Orioles with Albert Belle) and it depends on who it is written they've got to keep sending out those checks. Or release him and still have to pay him. Or trade him to a team in the Pennsylvania Penal League for a bunch of license plates.

No, they do not have to pay him. There is a clause in every players contracts about that.

October 28, 200322 yr keep pudge-castro-backup,redman-trade.(mordy can be a catcher if we need him. We wouldn't get much trading REDMOND (not Redman); Castro would have MUCH more trade value.
October 28, 200322 yr sry-REDMOND and castro would be worth more trade value bc hes better-so keep him!
October 28, 200322 yr Ramon will probally get traded. He was almost traded last year for Rondell White but the padres felt they wanted to keep him. If pudge doesnt re sign he will stay though....
