July 12, 200818 yr I was one of those who was for Nolasco being pulled in the 9th when he was going for a complete game (though I don't think Nolasco should've even have gone to the mound in the 9th). But that was a BS move by Fredi tonight. With the way he pitched, the kid earned a shot at getting the CG. His pitch count was only at 100. You have to at least let him pitch to Kent. Regardless, a very auspicious first start for Volstad. Well done.
July 12, 200818 yr i followed through game cast and he looked very efficient out there - seemed to mix up speeds and pitches really well - they put a lot of his balls up in the zone, did it look like he was leaving any hanging?

The best part of all this is that we don't have to suffer in anticipation of Douchebag Hendrickson 4 inning,6 run starts. To think that he was "enraged" because he was demoted to the bullpen!
July 12, 200818 yr I know Paul Hoover couldn't hit even if it was a watermelon being thrown at him, but you have to give him some credit as well for the game he called tonight - just like Baker got credit for the last two nights. Volstad had such poise though, great debut. I think Fredi made the right move though at the end irrespective of the outcome, as much as I hate to not see a complete game.

July 12, 200818 yr i shat myself when i saw hendrickson warming up in the 9th next to gregg. why oh why....i hope that was only a show to make mark feel special and that they never really intended to bring him in under ANY circumstance where we have a lead.
July 12, 200818 yr If Volstad gives up a HR to Kent, people would've bitched and complained. Volstad is 21 years old, pitched a great game...they scored a run off of him in the 9th (on his 100th pitch...that was actually his pitch limit...100-110). Gregg came in, and got the out. Gregg is the closer...he's now got 4 saves this week. Getting his confidence going again is big, b/c he's a big part of this team, being the closer. It was the right move, as I said before Kent's AB. Fredi is a manager, not a fan. He could care less about a CG, and he shouldn't care about the stat. It's all about the W's, and we got a big one, tonight. =========================================================================== I posted this on the gamethread...thought I'd post it here, as well, before it got crazy.
