Miller's Clearly Not Ready

Featured Replies

I don't really think anyone is saying that Miller sucks, but he definitely needs to go back to the minors and work on his command. No matter what pitcher it is, if he's having such bad command, he has to work on something in the minors. Especially while the team is fighting for the division. It's unfair to the rest of the guys, especially with the starts the team has gotten the past couple weeks. I don't expect him to be around much longer, hopefully he can go down work on some stuff and be back in September, but we definitely need another starter. Whether it's Mitre, Anibal, or some one else via trade. If these were meaningless games that he was pitching, it would be a different thing. But these games mean a lot to this team, and it's fans. So, he can't continue to have such poor starts at this level. The same way that they demoted Hendrickson and Tucker, they can demote Miller.

I can agree, but we need to remember he really had 1 bad inning. He is not polished yet, and the minors will help him have less poor starts in the majors.

I would like to let it be known that I always thought Nolasco should be in the rotation. Not because I knew he was going to be great, or even good, but I just wanted someone with some expirience over guys like Van Den Hurk.

And another thing on the subject of Miller. It's not ok to lose without trying to win. But it's ok to lose while giving your best shot. Which is why I think he needs to be replaced in the rotation to someone else. I'm not insisting the next guy would be any better, but without trying, you won't accomplish anything. That's all I'm saying.

Amen, brother!

With Miller being the pitching cornerstone of the Cabrera deal, don't look for Beinfest to eat crow on this any time soon. He'll leave the kid up here until ERA is hovering around 8.

I blame Freddy for such a bad inning. Why allow your team to go down by so many runs in the first inning, in a park where runs are hard to come by. After 4 runs, Miller should have been changed.

Like I said, it shouldn't be much longer.

If that's the case, why was Rabelo sent down for Paul Hoover, who sucks, just as bad?

Let MH start some games and send Miller down. Call him up (September maybe) if he shows improvement in the minors.

Beinfest held onto Rabelo as long as he could. It took an instance of Rabelo forgetting a basic fundamental of the game to get yanked.

He's learning. He'll get over the hump.

He's learning yes, he wont get over the hump in the Majors maybe with some time to improve his control in the minors.

Not all young pitchers can be Dontrelle Willis. He is inconsistent, live with it. He knows he needs to step it up. Anibal Sanchez may be coming back soon and someone will have to go down. Give the kid a break, he's not a finished product yet.

Dontrelle Willis was not perfect as a rookie. Miller is not a finished product.

It's amazing how many fairweather fans there are on this board.

In April, it was like..."SEND HIM DOWN TO THE MINORS!"

In May, it was like..."Miller is gonna be a stud!"

Now, that he's somewhat struggling again (mind you, ONE BALL was hit hard in that inning), it's..."SEND HIM DOWN TO THE MINORS!"

Give me a break. Make up your mind, already.

That's not the definition of a fairweather fan, though.

A fairweather fan can be defined in more than one way. It doesn't mean there is fairweather fans on the board because they want to send a pitcher down who is not performing.

Same thing can be said for people who don't like Gregg.

This is the same crap people were saying about Scott Olsen. Give it a break!

Not even close.

I'm still not sold on Nolasco.

I am, has he showed anything that would make you question him as a pitcher?

He is the warrior on the team and the guy who has gotten it done when others could not.

Miller has to stay. Give him the experience. He's a man, he can fight through this himself. Give him the All-star break to work on some minor adjustments and you'll see his full potential.

A bad start does not = not ready. Miller's had 14 starts since May 1

4 have been great

4 have been good

2 have been OK

4 have been awful

He is not an ace yet, but he's demonstrating that he's not terrible and frankly he's in our top 5 at this time no matter how you slice it.

I would hope all pitchers would strive to show that they are not terrible.

Right on. By my count, 5 have been terrible, but regardless, it hasn't been all season by any measurement.

We have a slight problem. We have noone to replace Miller with until...the first week of August at best.

Does anyone really want to see Hendrix or Tucker back in the rotation?

I would hope all pitchers would strive to show that they are not terrible.

Alas, not all of our pitchers are succeeding in that effort.

I have a question for all of you that want to keep Miller in the rotation.

If Sanchez returns in his 2006 form, who should be taken out of the rotation, Nolasco, JJ, Volstad, Olsen or Miller?

What about when Mitre returns, if he pitches like he did in 2006, what should our rotation look like then?

I think it is obvious that Miller's days are numbered as a starter in 2008.

I believe he will be a star in the future, but not this year.

We all know when Anibal is healthy he will replace Miller, but Mitre I do not believe will be back this year, I amy be wrong. But if he does come back, it will all have to be dependent on how Chris Volstad does the rest of the year. If he is amazing, Mitre will have to move to the bullpen, but if Volstad struggles like Tucker did after his first start, then Mitre will replace Volstad.

Miller probably has the highest ceiling of all our pitches, and he's going to be GREAT(Trust that.)... But he clearly needs some time down in AAA.

When Anibal is ready, he'll be sent down. No question.

Miller's young, but I think he's out of diapers at this point.

:banghead

Seriously, though. Miller's going to be taken out of the rotation with Anibal coming up. Beinfest won't be worried about "eating crow" on the Cabrera trade. If he was, he would have had Cameron Maybin scuffling at the Mendoza line at the big league level all year...

...and who's to say Sanchez doesn't return struggling?

Mitre...is he even rehabbing?

The problem is everyone is now so eager to take Miller out of the rotation, despite the fact, he's done decent since April. As of right now, I think Miller is our #4...yes, not #5, #4. Volstad had 1 (ONE) ML start. Miller has had plenty of good starts, for this team...at least more than Volstad.

He had 1 bad inning in SD, and 1 bad start in LA today. Now, everyone wants him gone.

Meanwhile, we're waiting for Sanchez to save the season, and he's still working in the minors...IN A BALL. At best, he's still a couple weeks away, probably more, and there's no guarantee we'll see 2006 Sanchez. He's coming off a terrible injury.

No, there is no guaruntee that we see the Anibal of old, but we can hope to see glimpses of it, If we can put JJ back in the rotation, why can't we put Anibal in?

I'm not saying Anibal can't be put in, I'm saying it's going to take more time, than people are thinking.

Plus, people have comeback successful, sometimes better, from Tommy John (JJ's injury / surgery). Sanchez is coming back from a shoulder injury, which has proven to be more difficult to comeback from.

No one wants MH in the rotation. Miller is the one with the great potential and if people are concerned with his development it's because they like him not because they don't. The disagreement is with what is the best way to get him where he needs to be. No one is concerned about developing Mark Hendrickson therefore there is no concern for him if he goes out and gets pounded (only for the team).
