Miller's Clearly Not Ready

Featured Replies

Well as Tommy mentioned, Miller does not do well in the first couple innings as a starter. It seems clear to me that he needs more time in the minors because the walks are embarassing. Im guessing when Mitre comes back, this is what will happen.

It's amazing how many fairweather fans there are on this board.

In April, it was like..."SEND HIM DOWN TO THE MINORS!"

In May, it was like..."Miller is gonna be a stud!"

Now, that he's somewhat struggling again (mind you, ONE BALL was hit hard in that inning), it's..."SEND HIM DOWN TO THE MINORS!"

Give me a break. Make up your mind, already.

I agree. Also, talk about being stuck between a rock and hard place: Do you leave Miller out there for the 2nd (in which he has struggled also this year) or bring in Hendrickson, who in a word, BLOWS?

Just for the record, I've always thought that Miller belonged in the minor, but I understood giving it a shot at the beginning just based on the injuries, but it's been clear for some time that he really needs to develop at a lower level.

Like i say before we are like a weather vane, its human nature.

I like Miller, but it's pretty obvious he might need some time in the minors to work on his control.

And I hate when people say a player sucks when he has a bad outing. Yeah, he's had numerous ones (which weren't even that bad), but we can't give up on him. What is he, 23 years old? I know he's started for the Tigers, but this is truly his first time as a mainstay in the rotation. He's not allowed to struggle? Yes, he's bad today, but he's not a terrible pitcher.

I just like him is all, and I think he'll eventually be a good pitcher. Didn't Fausto Carmona suck it up in Cleveland 2 years ago and then dominated last year? Hopefully he's like Carmona.

I agree with all of those statements, Miller is gonna be a stud, but he may need a little work in AA.

Not all young pitchers can be Dontrelle Willis. He is inconsistent, live with it. He knows he needs to step it up. Anibal Sanchez may be coming back soon and someone will have to go down. Give the kid a break, he's not a finished product yet.

That's not the definition of a fairweather fan, though.

yes, it is.

The only difference is, it's for certain players, instead of the team, in general.

Millers walks kill me. He has the stuff but it like he has to give up runs bfroe he s like oh yeah and then he bares down. Ive personally always wanted him in the minors but there really is no other option. Hendrickson?

The team is what's most important, though.

This isn't about being fairweather fans or not. This is about Andrew Miller's inconsistency. Whether he strings a couple good starts together later this year or not, he just can not keep the support of Fredi or the front office with his roller coaster performances.

He just looks undeveloped. Bottom line.

I like Miller quite a lot and I think he can be a huge asset to this team. However, I believe he would benefit from some time in AA. I don't see how this is helping his development and in his last couple of starts he looks like he has zero confidence. Some of you make it sound like having this point of view somehow signifies being ready to give up on the guy and, at least for me, that is not the case at all.

This is the same crap people were saying about Scott Olsen. Give it a break!

if the decisions were up to the people on here, "our ace" would be in the bullpen.

In April, everyone wanted Nolasco out of the rotation and Waechter in the rotation, except for SOME people.

Seriously, it gets annoying.

I don't really think anyone is saying that Miller sucks, but he definitely needs to go back to the minors and work on his command. No matter what pitcher it is, if he's having such bad command, he has to work on something in the minors. Especially while the team is fighting for the division. It's unfair to the rest of the guys, especially with the starts the team has gotten the past couple weeks. I don't expect him to be around much longer, hopefully he can go down work on some stuff and be back in September, but we definitely need another starter. Whether it's Mitre, Anibal, or some one else via trade. If these were meaningless games that he was pitching, it would be a different thing. But these games mean a lot to this team, and it's fans. So, he can't continue to have such poor starts at this level. The same way that they demoted Hendrickson and Tucker, they can demote Miller.

He's basically a rookie....he's going to have his ups and downs....so will Volstad...so will any other "rookie" .....and i know he's not officially a rookie...but he basically still is.....have some patience for god sakes...If your going to call for the head of every young pitcher that screws up then you need to root for another team because this team will give you a aneurysm..

I raise my hand. Right here.

I am on record as saying that Nolasco belonged in the pen, but that was a long standing opinion, not something that came around this season.

Consistency comes with experience, and he cant try to find it up in this level. It's no secret, he needs work. It's amazing that so many of you are blind to see that no good is going to come out from him doing it up at this level. If he keeps getting shelled, his confidence is going to completely go to sh*t. Give someone else a chance to get the job done, if no one else can, then no problem. But something has to be done.

Amen, brother!
