July 17, 200818 yr Knee problem gets Marlins Miller scratched from Sunday's game By Juan C. Rodriguez | South Florida Sun-Sentinel 7:38 PM EDT, July 17, 2008 MIAMI GARDENS - Left-hander Andrew Miller will be scratched from Sunday's scheduled outing with patellar tendinitis in his right knee. The Marlins will place Miller on the disabled list retroactive to Monday and make a corresponding move before Friday's game. Instead of opening the series against the Braves Monday, Josh Johnson will move up a day. Rookie Chris Volstad will make his second start Monday followed by a starter to be determined. The Marlins have a couple of in-house candidates in Mark Hendrickson and Doug Waechter, or they could give Frankie De La Cruz another shot. For Miller, the knee problem is chronic. At the end of April, Miller revealed he was diagnosed with tendinitis last season and it occasionally flared up. "It doesn't affect my pitching, I don't think," Miller said, earlier this season. The Marlins knew about the problem and discussed it with the Tigers before completing the eight-player deal. A stint on the disabled list might not be the worst thing for Miller, who closed out the first half with a miserable performance Sunday at Dodger Stadium. Miller lasted just 1 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs on five hits and walked five. His ERA is back up to 5.63 after losing four of his last five starts and six of seven decisions. ...maybe this is for the best right now.
July 18, 200818 yr How convenient. Its amazing how easily bad pitchers are injured these days. At least he'll get some time in rehab starts in the minors perhaps and won't have to burn what I believe is his last option. Any chance that Gaby Hernandez could be called up? I haven't heard a blip about our former top pitching prospect.
July 18, 200818 yr maybe hat explains his terrible pitching. funyy i just heard fredi on 790 sayin he expects him to stya in the rotation and he would go to the pen if he struggled and sanchez would take his spot.

July 18, 200818 yr I don't want to see us take Weachter out of his long relief role, he is the only reliable reliever we have, Hendrickson better not be back in the rotation, Gaby Hernandez is not a bad idea, this year we have used almost everyone from the minors, why not give Gaby Hernandez some experience in the majors?
July 18, 200818 yr THANK YOU!!!! why? I'd rather see Miller pitch than have to watch Hendrickson. I guess it's just me. Btw, I'd rather see De La Cruz get another shot over Hendrickson or Waechter (I like Waechter in the bullpen...and Hendrickson is better out of the pen also).

I do not want to see De La Cruz, let him develop the right way. Gaby Hernandez has been in the minors for what has seemed like forever to me, I believe lets see what he can do, then when Anibal comes back we send him down and A-Mill to the pen.

Gaby had a 7.24 ERA in AAA this year. He was "demoted" to AA right before the ASB, and went 6 IP, 3 ER. Not terrible, but he isn't going to be seeing the Majors any time soon.

Umm, I think I would rather survive a couple of starts with Hendrickson until Sanchez is ready...

I do not want another Hendrickson sighting, I would rather have De La Cruz get a shot than put Hendrickson back in the rotation.
July 18, 200818 yr Sucks for us. we have nobody in the minor leagues to call up and i dont want to see henrickson in the rotation again. We should just give Tucker the spot until sanchez returns.

It doesn't suck for us. Hendrickson or whoever they call up from the minors will only make 2 starts at the most. The way Miller has been pitching lately there is no guarantee he would give us any better of a chance to win those 2 games. By the third time that spot in the rotation comes up Anibal will most likely be ready to go, giving Fredi and the front office a sufficient excuse to get Miller out of the rotation.
July 18, 200818 yr ...maybe this is for the best right now. I think so. We're 7-13 in his starts. don't say that to Rabathan, he says thats a bad way to analyze a pitcher.

I know, but I am saying his absolutely terrible WHIP is a better way of analyzing him than win-loss.

July 18, 200818 yr When Miller, Tucker, Hendrickson, Badenhop, RVH and Frankie start we play about .400 ball. When Nolasco, Olsen, JJ and Volstad start we play about .666 ball. If we keep the starts of the .400 guys to a minimum then we have a chance.
July 18, 200818 yr Don't shot!!!!!!!!!!! Its only a suggestion. Seddon made the AAA all-star team and seams to have a decent ERA for a hitters league. I know he sucked royally last season, but would it kill the team until Ani gets healthy.
