July 24, 200817 yr Tons of scouts converged on Camden Yards last night to watch A.J. Burnett and George Sherrill pitch (those hoping to see Sherrill were disappointed). The Cardinals, Phillies, Yankees, Brewers, Marlins, Dodgers, and Tigers all had scouts there to watch at least one of the pitchers.
July 24, 200817 yr I wouldn't be surprised to see Willingham gone in the near future. yea seriously despite the fac that he was a huge part of our offense he's hetting older hes 30 and hasent looked the same since returning from the back injury
July 24, 200817 yr This is the same piling on/repeat the rumor stuff that goes on this time of the season. last week it was Barry Jackson increasing his national recognition by saying the Marlins wanted Pudge. This is happening in every baseball market across the country where guys like Rodriguez and Jackson start these stories and they take on a life of their own. Even "if" Colorado asked for Volstad in exchange for Fuentes, it was probably either rhetorical or simply a way of saying to Mike Hill or whoever, "you aren't giving up what we want for Fuentes so let me set the bar so high neither of us walk away with egg on our face. Great talking to you, how's the missus? I hear Sherill might be available but you know how it is dealing with Baltimore...". "Supposedly" (given this is the media), Colorado has asked for top pitching specs from each team that has asked about Fuentes, this wasn't just us.
July 24, 200817 yr i heard that the rockies were asking for volstad. if he does anything to volstad i swear i will go down there with pitchforks. if volstad is what we need forfuentes, than count us out,
July 24, 200817 yr totally agree, its not like we don't already have a closer. If it is for Volstad, Holliday better be involved.
July 24, 200817 yr i also thought i heard on the radio that the marlins werent going to trade there big prospects but can still get a deal done because the farm is so deep.
July 24, 200817 yr Indications are that the Phillies, Rays, Marlins, Angels, Cardinals, Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox all maintain some level of interest in Fuentes. But they've gotten down to specific name-swapping with only a couple of those teams -- believed to be the Marlins and Yankees -- and neither has made it past the shopping-list phase. O'Dowd continues to tell other teams that if they're not willing to cough up a top-of-the-line prospect and a secondary player, he'll happily hang onto Fuentes and take his two compensation picks. And that price hasn't wavered even a smidgeon. So an official of one interested team says: "I think their plan is to take him right to the deadline and see who blinks at the end"
July 24, 200817 yr Volstad for Fuentes = horrible. If we can package a couple more players each way maybe it works out to be a great deal. But jsut 1 for 1 no way.
July 24, 200817 yr "Supposedly" (given this is the media), Colorado has asked for top pitching specs from each team that has asked about Fuentes, this wasn't just us. The Rockies are six games out with a hundred to play I think asking for the moon was a nice way of ending any talk about trading the guy while they are at least matematically in contention. But maybe they did want to trade the guy, and Holliday too, and then ______________ and have a real firesale in July. I don't really think so. Now the Orioles that's a different story.
July 24, 200817 yr Volstad for Fuentes = horrible. If we can package a couple more players each way maybe it works out to be a great deal. But jsut 1 for 1 no way. I don't want to move Volstad unless Matt Holliday is involved... :shifty

I don't want to move Volstad unless Matt Holliday is involved... :shifty yea volstad = ace in the future but if we get some 1 like holiday im not sure dealing volsatd would help us beacause we lose a good starter id give gregg and either tucker or RVH maybe raynor and willingham for holliday and fuentes
July 24, 200817 yr totally agree, its not like we don't already have a closer. If it is for Volstad, Holliday better be involved. I agree, wouldn't that be something to get Holliday :mischief
July 24, 200817 yr I think we can be reasonably sure it wasn't to scout Burnett I heard we were tryign to get Gregg Zaun, so it might be for him. I would like Sherrill too
