August 2, 200818 yr No mention of the guy that surrendered 5 runs? Yeah, seriously...Volstad did not pitch well. I wish Jacobs was no longer here, but it makes no sense to put him in 3x, as if he played a huge part in this loss, tonight. Volstad didn't have his best stuff, but he would have been out of the 3rd with no runs scoring if Hanley dosent make 2 errors with 2outs recorded. It's also hard to win ballgames when your offense only gives you two runs and a ton of errors which only increase your pitch count. No one played well today... go get them tomorrow... Seeing Volstad get through his control trouble in the 1st was outstanding...most rookies lose there composure and give up a few runs in those situations and he handled it great. Overall with the good and the bad I have liked what I have seen from this kid so far and he has exceeded my expectations (not by alot though since expectations were high to begin with)

However, my point is, it's better to have him as a candidate than to have Jake in there 3x. For what it's worth...as I said, I voted for Hanley.
August 2, 200818 yr Hanley sucked OUT LOUD tonight. Wonder if the HBP had anything to do with that. Didn't notice it at the game, but the wrap says he was wearing a guard for all his AB's after that. No excuse, of course, but wonder if that had anything to do with anything. Horrible game, but the NL East remains the same, so let's break out for our first big win streak of the season now!! Timing couldn't be better for a nice 8 or 9 game tear!

It's not even the errors, because I don't blame him 100% for those *ahem JAKE* it's the leaving 5 on base. Either last night or the night before T&R said he has the 3rd lowest BA with RISP in the NL.

Wow, I did'nt realize how bad it really was...he's gonna need to improve that to be considered one of the best in the MLB.
August 2, 200818 yr Not to be a killjoy but aren't these threads getting old? And why is Volstad on this list? His defense let him down but he still only allowed four runs through 5 innings.

That translates to a non-quality start. I agree about these threads getting old, but why not put Volstad as a candidate? He struggled tonight. There will be better days.
August 2, 200818 yr Without the advantage of instant replay, and from my seat, it looked to me like an average 1B makes those catches and no errors charged to the thrower. Granted, the throws weren't perfect, but they shouldn't need to be for a decent 1B to make a catch. And then Jake bobbles a grounder for what should have been a double play ball right after I started cheering for him because he had caught 3 in a row that came his way. The man was on a roll!!!! But truth be known, I have really soured on Jake this year. That probably makes me a bit prejudiced in casting a vote here. The whole team appeared to not be into the game. Such as, I thought that should have been a catch by Cody. Seen him make much harder ones. Give credit to their pitcher. A hard thrower that we couldn't handle. For whatever reason.

The reason was because he's been ridiculously hot since last month, where he was 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA.

The reason was because he's been ridiculously hot since last month, where he was 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA. That's not really a reason why we couldn't touch him up. Reasons would be great movement on that fastball, good pitch selection, not afraid to throw any of his pitches at any time, going after hitters, etc... The stats you put up are just a product of the reasons. This was one of the few home games I wouldn't have minded to watch on TV. Just for the instant replays of his pitches.
August 2, 200818 yr Eric, You gotta stop trying to put a lil blame on Volstad, He pitched really good and when your defense makes innings longer and you give up runs that shouldnt be there, How do you blame a pitcher that was pitching preety good, not great but good, Just remember hes only 21 so that does effect him when he has longer nnngs for no reason. Hanley should be the Blame all day 2 errors 5 men left on base and the nght before he left 5 on base. Its getting ugly the way he hits with risp. He's are franchise guy he's considered the best short stop in the league, He Needs to improve or we have no Chance of making the playoffs!!! I have faith he's gonna turn it around though. Sorry for getting on him like this but hes are best player and he aint showing right now when we need him the most!
August 2, 200818 yr Eric, You gotta stop trying to put a lil blame on Volstad, He pitched really good First, put a k on the end of that name. Second, he did not pitch very well. Third, Hanley did not have a good game. Hanley is anti-clutch because he has poor RISP rankings, but is great close and late. Jacobs is anti-clutch because he is poor close and late, but kills the ball with RISP. Cantu is clutch because.... well.... he's Mexican? These are, at best, statistical quirks.
