August 3, 200817 yr "One high-level Red Sox official said he expected Manny Ramirez would end up with the Marlins, but the Marlins backed off Wednesday night and were justified asking for an additional $2 million (on top of paying Ramirez's salary) to cover salaries of the compensatory draft picks Florida would get for losing Ramirez to free agency this winter. Plus, Florida's refusal to include outfielder Mike Stanton -- who leads his Single A league with 27 homers -- helped kill the deal" Miami Herald
August 3, 200817 yr WOw that Stanton kid has that many HRs??? DAAAAAAAAAAAMN is he like one of our top prospects? I hadnt heard of this kid until he popped up in Manny deals, so he must be good lol
August 3, 200817 yr Well, tells me there are some Brains up in that office. Glad the deal fell through, now lets go win some baseball.
August 3, 200817 yr glad we didn't get rid of Stanton and Tucker, those are our future first baseman and future Closer or set-up man
August 3, 200817 yr glad we didn't get rid of Stanton and Tucker, those are our future first baseman and future Closer or set-up man I dont think Tucker will end up as a closer or set-up man. I think he should be a starter.

August 3, 200817 yr Honestly after seeing the names that were involved in that trade i am glad the Fish didn't pull the trigger, they were going to give up way too much, even without giving up Stanton, who is looking like a beast.
August 3, 200817 yr honestly, who gives a sh*t, there have been so many "he said, she said" stories, including ON trade deadline day when frigging espn reporters were contradicting themselves on the same website as was mlb.com we didn't get him, people are going to believe what they want to believe, no less of an authority than Gammons himself, who fellates Bo Sox front office folks as a hobby says the 2 million wasn't an issue, now Barry Jackson finds someone who says it was
August 3, 200817 yr Here is my take on the trade... if we win it all, its worth it even losing those guys. But, there is NO WAY Manny would have made the difference for us in winning the World Series this year. If we pull it off, its going to be on the strength of our pitching staff, not an extra few homers and RBI's (along with a severe downgrade defensively).
August 3, 200817 yr i think this is just something we have to push under the rug and just move on... we didnt get him for better or worse, all I know is that July 31st was one of my most memorable days as a Marlin fan monitoring that all day long seemingly minute by minute... that was a good type of excitement and I appreciate it... but it ended and thats that...now we look ahead to an 08 playoff spot!
August 3, 200817 yr Our top prospects hitter in the minor are Maybin, Coghlan, Dominguz, Stanton, Skipworth in the order from most MLB ready to least. Our farm is looking good with this 5 nice looking prospect, Beinfest did good pulling out of the deal if the Pirates were also asking for Stanton too.
August 3, 200817 yr Barry Jackson has a terrible track record when it comes to the Fish. I'll believe something Peter Gammons says 100 times out of 100 over that joker.
August 3, 200817 yr Actually, Stanton is up to 28....he hit one tonight. What is Stanton's age? If only there was someplace one could find this information...oh wait, there is...the Internet! Just kidding....but seriously, you are online already...how hard is it to find that he is going to be 19 in November? It took me all of 10 seconds.
