August 21, 200817 yr Gregg blows it...what else is new... Considering that before Friday, he converted his last 11 save ops, I'd say it's pretty new.
August 21, 200817 yr It's ok. Fredi will just lay wee wee pads down in the clubhouse after the game for the puppies to walk on. He will pet them and tell them everything is going to be ok like he always does. Quite frankly, I would love Fredi to just lay into this team finally and give them a f***ing wake up call. i know right what the hell is he waiting for this "wait and see" attitude aint working, just freakin yell at them or somethin, i dont know but do somethin
August 21, 200817 yr We dont deserve to go to the playoffs, but neither does arizona or LA. We still arent out of it and we still have to series against the mets. Thats where the team has to take advantage. we didnt take adavantage of a team that was 19 games under .500 going into the series, how can this team possible take advantage of the mets. its become clearer and clearer everyday that this is going to be season ending slump for the marlins bats
August 21, 200817 yr Gregg blows it...what else is new... Considering that before Friday, he converted his last 11 save ops, I'd say it's pretty new. Considering this wasn't even a save situation, either... Considering while everyone is blaming Gregg calling him "the worst reliever", while basically failing to acknowledge than an AAAA pitcher, basically shut down the offense, that has been the real problem in this 2nd half... Seriously guys...calm down. At least place the blame on the hitters.

And how exactly does yelling make them perform better? What are they, 5?
August 21, 200817 yr Well hopefully we can get a good luck at Maybin and company sooner than later. That's the only bright side to this.
August 21, 200817 yr I can only speak for myself when I say that ANY team I'm a big fan of, I always expect them to succeed and make the playoffs at the least. What's the fun in watching a team when you expect them to lose? And don't throw "let's be realistic" at me. What if I don't want to? sh*t man, I like to think of sports as an escape from reality. I'm expecting the miracles when I cheer on my team. f*** reality and expectations. There might be a 1 in 100 chance of the Marlins winning the World Series this year, but I'll always be the first one to ask, "Why can't we be that 1?" Some say it's not probable. But I say it's possible, and that is why I watch everyday. true true. sports is definetly an escape from reality for me and at the beginning of the season i thought this team could make it to the playoffs, maybe i was being overly optimistic or ignorant about that many things that were going against them but i always had faith that they would be a good team. eventhough i constantly criticize them i always continue to watch them and deep down inside still have faith that they can do it

What are they, 5? i want him to strangle them to death lol well not yelling at them doesnt work so maybe yelling at them or pull a guillen will. and yes i dont know if he has yelled at them but he freddi doesnt seem to have that type of character or personality like girardi did, who i remember pulling olsen by the shirt and confronting him after olsen had a bad game. and what do you know, after he did that olsen started to pitch better. but i agree with one of your posts, the offense is what definetly deserves the blame.
August 22, 200817 yr I'm no fan of some of Fredi's tactical decisions, but even I can't throw any crap at him for this loss. He actually did it right this time and got screwed by Cardiac Kevin again. The hitting wasn't all that either, but I think this loss HAS to be laid firmly on Gregg. And to think I spent a shedload of money following the game on my cellphone at work... I think I'll bill Gregg for the wasted minutes on my contract.

I think I'll bill Gregg for the wasted minutes on my contract. Gregg allowed a run, on a wild pitch. Which, oh btw...is partially his fault. Hate to ruin the Baker parade, but with a man at 3rd...if you call for a breaking ball, you better be prepared to block it. The bottom line is, the offense was held in check by a 29 year old rookie, making his 2nd big league start (and his 1st wasn't pretty, for what it's worth). Just like they were shut out by guys like Todd Wellemeyer, the other day. The constant failure of this offense in the 2nd half is amazing. It's been like 2 different teams, in 2 different halves. Can we get the 1st half hitting, with the 2nd half pitching, please? If so...then no, I won't give up. However, this team is just so damn inconsistent...it's amazing. And they often find ways to find ways to lose. I swear, I was totally expecting a wild pitch today from Gregg. Pinto is the same way. If those two would only throw strikes on a consistent basis...they'd be so good (especially Gregg). Bah.
August 22, 200817 yr I have a question for all of you, does pitching win games or does offense win games? Right now the marlins are proving that high powered offenses win games. just saying.

Right now the marlins are proving that high powered offenses win games. just saying. very very true. it does seem like offense wins games, not alot of games but just enough to keep you over .500
August 22, 200817 yr Fredi I think has done a fine job, he's really a minor player in the team's success and failures this year, I'll never understand why managers take so much heat for things they have little impact on. The players aren't hitting, they run into outs, the back end of the bullpen is atrocious and they can't field. NONE of that can be solved by Freddi pulling Olsen by the shirt and yelling at him.
August 22, 200817 yr Gregg blows it...what else is new... Did he?? Or would a decent catcher have thrown out that base stealer?? Or would have a decent catcher been able to block that throw?? Face it, the wild pitch wasn't that far off the bag. An average defensive catcher can block that one. Especially a catcher that calls a slider from a pitcher that he knows tends to put the ball in the dirt on that pitch. Gregg had a hand in this 9th inning collapse, but the real blame should go to the Board God. That was a defensive collapse.
August 22, 200817 yr Crap. I have to wait for hockey season, till my next team starts. Not a Dolphins fan, and basketball gets more boring, by the day, imo. Go Cats Go! :mischief Seriously though...the Marlins have exceeded your expectations...and they are not TRYING to lose these games. We're all fans...but don't just be ignorant say "Go Heat and Dolphins." I don't like that; this team has given us great moments, and who knows? They might, again, this year. I don't see it...but stranger things have happened. I'll watch till Game 162, whether in or out of the standings, and I will applaud them that day. Plain and simple...I never expected before the season that this team would exceed 70 wins. No one did. And yet...they've hung in there. Is there an award for that? No. But...they are certainly no laughing stock. As a matter of fact, the future looks bright, if anything. Then again, I might be setting the standards too low since I'm a diehard Panthers fan, as well...just hoping to get an 8th seed, one of these years. Agreeing with Erick here. If people weren't so blinded by all the HRs at the start of the season they would have been able to see this was no play off team. Too many Ks. Too many base running blunders. Too many guys left ISP. Too many fielding errors. Too much inconsistency at every aspect of the game. This year was always about getting some experience and building on last year for next year. They are accomplishing that. In little ways. I predicted before ST a .500 season and I stick to that. And will be grateful for that. Then again, I don't expect the world owes me every thing I want just because I was born. It's sweeter when it is earned.
August 22, 200817 yr Gregg allowed a run, on a wild pitch. Which, oh btw...is partially his fault. If those two would only throw strikes on a consistent basis...they'd be so good (especially Gregg). Bah. If he was half the ctacher some here give him credit for, that guy would never have stole 2B. Those Baker fans said with Paulie catching Wed that the Giants would steal away. I did say then they will do it on Baker instead. And they did. With a runner on 3B, with a pitcher the catcher KNOWS hits the dirt with off speed stuff, he calls off speed and isn't prepared to, or simply can't, block a pitch that an average defensive catcher has no problem with. Bottom line...Catcher is the biggest hole we have. And that needs to be addressed this off season.
August 22, 200817 yr Pussies! All of them! You can't beat the f***ing Giants then you don't deserve to go to the playoffs. They don't wanna hit, their closer is a useless piece of sh*t, and their defense is horrible. Simply put: Not a playoff team. Wow, um I know its not very tactful of me but sir, you are an idiot. I'm sure the reason the offense has been sh*tty as of late is that they don't want to hit the ball. That has to be it.
August 22, 200817 yr I did say then they will do it on Baker instead. And they did. :lol :lol :lol When it happened (repeatedly,) each time I laughed because I recalled that I agreed with you when you said it here and I agreed that it would probably be true over the next few games. And, sure enough, it was. Baker has a bat, which is an improvement, but that's it. He's no 2-3 year solution, unless mediocrity is the watchword and cheap back-ups are the order of the day. With a runner on 3B, with a pitcher the catcher KNOWS hits the dirt with off speed stuff, he calls off speed and isn't prepared to, or simply can't, block a pitch that an average defensive catcher has no problem with. And which Loduca would probably have handled. The always snide Gregg had this to say in the Sun-Sentinel: Of the wild pitch, Gregg said: "It's called a slider below the zone to see how aggressive he's going to be, and it bounced away. It was a tough pitch to block. The feckless Baker, unable to block a pitch he knew was coming, added these priceless and profound words: It's been the story of what's happened to us the last two weeks. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong. :lol :lol :lol Nope, it wasn't total offensive and defensive incompetence, it was just bad luck! Good to know Baker has finally figured out Murphy's Law. But, we'll get them tomorrow! Too bad they're running out of tomorrows. And stupid baseball cliches.
August 22, 200817 yr Well hopefully we can get a good luck at Maybin and company sooner than later. That's the only bright side to this. true
August 22, 200817 yr Why is Gregg throwing it in the dirt with a man on 3rd? B/c Baker called for it...
August 23, 200817 yr Why is Gregg throwing it in the dirt with a man on 3rd? B/c Baker called for it... It's no use, Erick. The Baker fans have had us outnumbered since ST with absolutely no good reason for it. When he does bad it is simply ignored, glossed over, or blamed on someone else. But the fact remains. He is terrible behind the plate. I'm not sure if it's because he is slow, which is my opinion, or just dosen't know the proper mechanics. If it's the mechanics, which it very well could be, then that's just another good reason to have Paulie here.
