August 30, 200817 yr Thanks to school starting back up I've only been able to casually follow the team of late, and man have things gone south. I've always appreciated Tommy's honesty though, he's fun to listen to because he says exactly what the average fan is thinking without going overboard with it.
August 30, 200817 yr I say from the beginning, Tommy Hutton is not afraid to speak his mind, his partner is the total opposite, i don't know if it is the new yorker in me, i go to games and see players mess up, and the fans seems like they are not allow to boo, i would bet, if Gregg come into the game today he will be applause, we have a manager who #1 line is, "The guys are trying their best, tomorrow is another day." We the fans make to much excues for the players, if they do good applause them, if they mess up let them have it, no excues. You are forgetting the Jorge Julio experience. Boos all around. Also, you do this two much, "Most of you are apologists, but I'm a straight talker, no sugar coating and right from the gut" when in reality most of the guys here are ready to hang a guy after a mistake. The only guy with any leeway is Hanley. I'm not a apologist, you get the same from me, alot of folks on here always jump on me because i speak my mind and will always do, to old to change. i don't go to far back with the team, became a fan when i move here, dec 06, You're definitely not an apologist, but I don't like that you make it seem like most of the guys here are, when most of them are ridiculously harsh on the team.
August 30, 200817 yr You know, it may not be Gregs fault 100% but still, a dominant pitcher needs to make the pitches that lead to outs... yeah he'll give up bloop hits and have shoddy defense behind him, but he needs to step up and overcome that... thats what the best closers do....as for last night, that was pretty much all Kevin...so screw him... we have a great group of 24 hardworking players...Kevin Gregg, not so much
August 30, 200817 yr yeah my mistake on that one, i thought i heard Tommy say 10 in the telecast last night. When checking in another thread I saw 9 and edited it out. Tommy does say it like it is, u gotta love the guy for that. I see him as more of a Marlins fan then anything else, cause he actually seems to give a crap whats going on and not just calling the game. Makes me laugh cause I think Rich is terrified of him and just lets him vent out frustration. it just stinks that we can have a heck of a game, and when we call upon Gregg he blows it all up. September is coming so it should be time to see what the other guys have now. We are way to hard on Gregg. This bullpen hasn't struggled, but unfortunately they are at the end of the game where all the blame can be assigned. Gregg didn't only score 2 runs in the first 8 innings. 9 Blown Saves 4 w/failed Double Plays that would have ended it 1 in Colorado when nobody was able to get anyone out Lets face it, he's been screwed by our defense and is a middle reliever anyhow, so it is going to be hard for him to get 6-7 outs in an inning. ohhhhhhhh come on man dont go there now! Gregg is a closer and his job is to come in and shut the door, the defense isnt throwing fat pitches right down the pipe, or walking people, or hitting people, or bouncing pitches in the dirt. And 2 runs in the first 8 inn, yeah! thats all thats needed, we were WINNING the game, it doesnt matter if its 1-0 or 20-0, if he comes in his job is still to close it out. The offense did ENOUGH to hand him the lead in the last inning, but he did just enough to f-k it up like he's been up to lately.
August 30, 200817 yr Tommy's recent frustration is kinda annoying. He'd have to be a robot not to get frustrated at what he's been witnessing. I would have found it a lot more annoying if he had calmly tried to sugercoat it. u mean like the mets announcers? :whistle
August 30, 200817 yr You know some times Tommy gets on my nerves, but when he gets angry like that last night, I LOVE IT. It is great to have an announcer with such a passion, and he what I wanted to say, besides swearing like nobody's business. And you know what, he was right also!
August 30, 200817 yr I didnt here fredi after the game did he answer any questions or gregg for that matter?. Did fredi give any inclination taht hed move gregg from the closer spot or was it the same old bs?
August 30, 200817 yr gregg is garbage end if story. he shows no emotion and i knew he was going to blow the game the minute they announced him as pitcher. for him it's easy getting the 2 first outs....but the third one well the bases loaded and a grand slam later... You guys really need to get over the showing emotion thing. If Gregg gives up a slam and shreds his glove with his teeth in anger, it's still a grand slam. Doesn't make any difference. Yeah, cause when Josh Beckett shows emotion it sucks and we all know Beckett sucks. It's about time someone on the staff showed some damn emotion, even if it has to come from T.V. announcers. Maybe it would give at least give the illusion that someone gave a damn this second half besides a couple pitchers.

Did fredi give any inclination taht hed move gregg from the closer spot or was it the same old bs? They asked him about it but Fredi pulled a Hanley and didn't answer. And then had a sit down with Gregg after that. If you are a boss you don't throw your employees under the bus. That's one reason I like him.
August 31, 200817 yr Fredi shouldnt throw Gregg under the bus but I'd kill for Kevin to show some emotion... someone threw down the Josh Beckett comparison... and in many ways, Josh Beckett is my favorite player to watch, why? Cause he shows EMOTION... I can't truly condone being an aggressive or violent player but when you watch Josh play you know that he CARES about whats going on... Kevin Gregg and his stone cold emotionless face KILLS me...and the opposite of Josh Beckett, Dontrelle Willis' always smiling "its ok, my bad" face is so annoying... we all loved Dontrelle but I HATED how he never got mad whenever he got rocked... you can't always smile in baseball...sorry D-Train, sorry Kevin...be more like Josh...thank you

On the other side of the spectrum, Greg Maddux is my favorite player to watch and you don't emotion there. I love his professional demeanor. I guess it's to each his own.
